I don’t even know where she could be right now,” Laura said, her voice trembling as tears slipped down her cheeks.Mac stepped closer and gently held her shoulders. “The police are already searching for her. She’ll be fine, Laura,” she said softly, trying to reassure her.Laura shook her head. “But we don’t even know what happened. What if she was kidnapped? Or she ran away? We don’t know where she is—how are they supposed to find her?”“It’s going to be okay,” Mac repeated gently. “She’ll be found.”Just then, the door opened.Jace walked in.Mac turned to him, her brows drawing together. “What are you doing here?” she asked.Jace ignored the question, his gaze sweeping across the room.“Lisa… come out. Stop hiding.”A moment later, Lisa stepped forward, arms folded tightly across her chest, a stubborn frown on her face.“Lisa!” Laura and Mac exclaimed in shock.Laura rushed to her and pulled her into a tight embrace. “Where have you been? ALEXA’S POVWarm sunlight brushed gently against my face.I stirred, reluctant to open my eyes—but slowly, I did.The first thing I saw…Was him.Jason.His face was so close to mine, his expression softer than I had ever seen it.“Good morning, sunshine,” he said, a faint smile playing on his lips.Heat rushed to my cheeks.“Good morning…”He got up from the bed and walked out of the room.A few moments later, he returned—with a tray.“I made breakfast,” he said casually, placing it carefully in front of me.I blinked in surprise.Jason… cooking?I sat up quickly, pulling the duvet over myself, suddenly self-conscious.I picked up the cup of tea and took a small sip.Silence lingered. Then—“About last night…” he began. My heart skipped.“What about last night?” I asked, trying to sound normal.Inside, I was anything but.Was he really bringing that up?“You wanted to tell me something,” he said.I stared at him.Seriously? That? He smiled faintly, clearly amused by my reaction.“Wha

The moment she stepped in—The room shifted.Heads turned. Conversations died. Cameras flashed.Sydney Stones. She moved like she owned the air around her—graceful, confident, untouchable.A soft smile curved her lips as she approached us.“Hi, Jason… how are you feeling now?” she asked gently.“I’m fine,” Jason replied, his tone neutral. “Thanks.”I watched him closely. No warmth. No softness. No reaction.Good.“You promised to call,” she added lightly. “But you didn’t.”“Oh… I forgot.”The faint crack in her composure didn’t go unnoticed.I looked away, hiding the small satisfaction curling in my chest.Sensing the tension, she turned to Ethan with a laugh.“Oh, Ethan! How are you?”I leaned toward Jason.“I need to use the restroom.”His brows drew together immediately. “Are you okay?”“I’m fine. I’ll be right back.”“Don’t take too long.”That tone again.Protective.It did something to me.The hallway felt quieter. Cooler.I exhaled once I got inside the restroom, trying to stea

ALEXA’S POV“So, what do you have to tell me?” I asked, furrowing my brows at Barbara.“Say yours first,” she replied quickly, her voice slightly shaky.I rolled my eyes and sighed. “Something is clearly bothering you, Barbara. So go ahead.”“It can wait,” she said with a forced smile.I scoffed softly. “Fine.”I inhaled deeply.“Jason wants a divorce.”Her eyes widened immediately. “What? Why would he want that?”“You remember we got married because of his mom,” I said flatly. “Now she’s gone… so, to him, there’s no reason for the marriage anymore. He wants a divorce—and I’m not doing anything about it.”Barbara studied me carefully.“It depends on you too. Do you want the divorce?”“I don’t know…” I murmured, biting my lower lip.“You have to be honest with yourself, Alexa. Do you love him?”My chest tightened instantly.Love?“I’m… confused,” I admitted quietly. “I don’t even understand my own feelings. I just know I’m not happy about the divorce. And that scares me.”Barbara softe

Jason’s POVIt had been weeks. Life had grown unbearably hard. Alexa and I hadn’t spoken about the divorce since that day.Instead, we fell back into the cold treatments, passing each other like strangers in our own home. This time, though… it felt different. Awkward. Heavy. There was something else gnawing at me—something shocking. The woman who had shown up at the house.†Flashback†“Max, who is this?” I asked my dad, disbelief clear in my voice. The woman smiled warmly. “Oh, I guess he hasn’t told you. I’m Laura Jackson, your dad’s new wife, and this is Lisa Anderson—your biological sister.”I chuckled dryly. “Is this some kind of joke? New wife? We just lost Mom.” My frown deepened.“Dad, who are these people?” Jace demanded, his eyes fixed on him.Dad rubbed his palms nervously. “Okay… there’s a long explanation.”“Mom, I don’t want to stay here,” Lisa said, pouting and stamping her foot.“We’re listening,” I said, folding my arms.Dad took a deep breath. “When Jennifer was aroun

JASON’S POV“A divorce? Hell no!”“Dad, you can’t make decisions for me,” I said coldly. “The only reason I married Alexa was to make Mom happy. Now she’s gone… it’s time we go our separate ways and live our lives.”“Would Mom be happy about this?” Jace asked.“This isn’t about Mom—”“It is about Mom, Jason,” Jace cut in firmly. “You got married for her sake. Don’t you think you should still honor that, even now? Make a reasonable decision, bro.”“Jace is right,” my father added. “Filing for a divorce right now isn’t a good idea.”I let out a scoff.“And why exactly is it a bad idea?”Jace glanced at Alexa, a knowing look on his face.“Does Alexa even want this divorce?” he asked. All eyes turned to her.“Urm…” she hesitated, clearly anxious.Jace smirked slightly. “Exactly.”“If Alexa doesn’t agree,” my dad continued, “then there’s nothing you can do, Jason. It has to be a mutual decision.”Annoyed, I turned sharply to her.“Alexa, I thought we agreed there would be no feelings invol
