Chapter 1 That Youth

Since ancient times, it had been countless years since people discovered elements and used them. It was everyone's dream to become a mage who could own an element and use it.

However, not everyone had the talent to control the elements. Even if they had the elements, they could not use the elements well.

As a result, there was a huge gap between people's abilities.

With the evolution of human society, more and more technology was produced. According to the characteristics of the animals walking on the ground, flying in the sky or swimming in the water, scientists had invented many corresponding technologies.

However, the mage was still the highest fighting force in the war, which could not be replaced by science and technology.

The benefits drove many of the mage to come together. As a result, many powerful mage alliances appeared, but only the two great empires, two great families, and an alliance remained standing.

They were Yu Kingdom who ruled the east, Mio Family and the Snow family who jointly managed the west, Reza Empire who ruled the north, and many oceans in the south were ruled by Regional Sea Alliance, which was united by many islands.

Yangzhou City was located at the border of Yu Kingdom, mixed with the good and the bad, so it was inevitable for conflicts and fighting.

In addition to the dark beasts that occasionally appeared, it was more difficult to manage the city.

The chaotic environment of Yangzhou City has only improved due to the state's emphasis on border control in recent years. But conflicts still occur occasionally, and this was impossible to be completely eradicated by the military government.

The idea of becoming a mage is stronger here than anywhere else, because becoming a mage means you could leave for a bigger, safer city.

But for some reason, there were very few people who could become mages. In the entire Yangzhou City, there were only a few mages who could be counted with one hand, and they went to farther parts of the world.

Right now, the few mage in this small town were still Second Grade mage who couldn't survive in some big cities. He came here to find a position to enjoy a good life.

The scorching sun would not pity the people here. It would only recklessly vent its anger on the people here.

The people here seemed to have adapted to the scorching sun and had their own ways of beating the heat.

Today, Yangzhou City was particularly restless. The magic examiner of military government would come here to look for talented kids, and they would also help children who were not more than fifteen to detect the affinity with the surrounding elements.

Only when the affinity with the surrounding elements reached more than fifty percent could one become a mage, and the higher the affinity, the better the talent.

Yang Zhou Square, the landmark of Yangzhou City, was the venue for this test. Thus, there was particularly lively, and people's high spirits were higher than the heat of the sun.

"Li Kong." A loud shout woke up a young man who was in a daze. Li Kong hurriedly replied and then quickly walked to the temporarily built high platform.

"Put your hand on this Sensor Stone and close your eyes, focus on your perception." The examiner sitting on the high platform said. His voice was gentle but carried a bit of arrogance.

"Oh, okay." Li Kong nodded vigorously and proceeded according to the instructions.

Half a minute later, nothing happened to the white Sensor Stone. The examiner shook his head in disappointment: it had been nearly six hours since this morning, and no one had been born with a fifty percent affinity.

He was full of disappointment with the small town.

"Alright, you can open your eyes now."

"Uncle, can I become a mage?" The young Li Kong asked nervously as soon as he opened his eyes. The innocence on his face did not change because of nervousness.

Looking at the young man whose face was red but his eyes were bright, the examiner did not know how to answer this innocent kid.

He slowly stood up from his seat and touch the hair of Li Kong, "How old are you now?"

"Twelve years old."

"Well, you are still young and have many years to prepare for the test. So as long as you work hard, you can definitely become a powerful mage." The examiner said softly. He really could not bear to break this boy's dream, so he could only comfort him.

"I know, I didn't pass." Li Kong's excited expression instantly became depressed. Although he just came to have a try, but who didn't have the dream of becoming a hero?

It was inevitable that he would feel a little disappointed.

"Alright, kid, we will come again next year. Maybe next year you can become an excellent mage." The examiner rubbed Li Kong's head again and said.

"Yes, I believe." Li Kong nodded heavily and quickly went down the steps. He was wondering whether if anyone would become mage today.

"Hey, Li Kong? Why are you here?" A young man of the same age stood behind Li Kong and asked with a sarcastic voice.

"It's none of your business." Li Kong did not even look back as he spoke in a flat tone.

"I don't know who just walked down with a woeful look." said the boy ruthlessly.

"Feng Qisun." The voice of the examiner came out again.

"Here." The young man who had just mocked Li Kong shouted loudly and immediately ran up.

After a while, a loud shout caused the entire square to boil.

"Congratulations. Fifty percent affinity with the surrounding elements. Feng Qisun, you can become a mage."

"This child is amazing. He is the first mage today. He is really a genius."

"I really envy them. His family can walk out of this chaotic place now."

Li Kong, on the other hand, found it hard to believe that his long-time nemesis could actually become mage.

This made it hard for him to accept for a while, but after thinking about it again, he felt that there was nothing more to go into - Feng Qisun's family background was there.

Feng Qisun's father was the only Senior-level Second Grade mage of Yangzhou City, so it was reasonable for Feng Qisun to become a mage.

Li Kong silently turned around and left. He no longer had the interest to watch. Although he thought through, but there was still some uncomfortable inside.

"Where's that boy Li Kong?" Feng Qisun found that Li Kong was not there. He felt very angry.

However, when he thought about how he would soon become a mage, he raised his face proudly.

How can a child of an ordinary family compare to me, a mage? Li Kong was no longer worthy of comparison with me. The only people who can compare with me were the geniuses in the big cities.

Compared to the hot and spicy daytime, the dusk here was extremely moving, but people who lived here rarely enjoyed such beautiful scenery, because everyone was busy.

Back mountain, this was the collective name of the people here for this mountain that was not too high.

At dusk, the people who went to the mountain to play also rushed down the mountain, because Yangzhou City occasionally had fierce dark beasts at night, especially in this mountain, people naturally did not want to stay more.

"Grandpa, why are you still there alone? It's so late. Aren't you afraid of the fierce dark beasts?" Li Kong asked curiously.

Every time he came to the Back Mountain to relax, he would meet this stooped old man. So they had got to know each other.

"Aren't you running up the mountain alone? I don't think you're afraid." The old man rubbed his face and smiled.

"I... I was in a bad mood, so I came here to relax." Li Kong argued with a red face.

"Yo, you're blushing, hahaha." The old man pointed at Li Kong's flushed face and smiled.

"Little fellow, come, come, tell me what happened."

Li Kong, who was worried that how to pour out his grievances, sat down and told the old man what had happened today.

The moon slowly replaced the position of the sun, and the night gradually enveloped Yangzhou City.

"I thought it was something important. Now I see." The old man smiled.

His expression suddenly became serious, "Kid, do you want to become a mage?"

Li Kong was stunned by the old man's sudden question. After a while, he nodded and said, "Of course."

"Even if you have to suffer countless hardships?" The old man asked again.

"Yes, I'm sure. As long as I can become a mage, I'm willing to do anything!"

The old man heard the incomparably firm voice.

"Well, meet me in this place tomorrow evening."

"Fine." The youth got up and went down the mountain in a pleasant mood.

"Hm, Li Kong, you, a piece of trash who can't even become a mage, dare to go against me. If not for you escaped quickly, I would definitely kick your ass." Feng Qisun, who had just returned from the square, kicked away a stone on the road with a fierce expression on his tender face.

Just as Feng Qisun was pulling a long face, he suddenly saw a young man with a face full of excitement walking happily in the near distance.

"Li Kong, I was just wondering where to find you. I didn't expect that you would actually come on to me. Get ready to get your ass kicked." Feng Qisun licked his lips cruelly and clenched his fists tightly.

After the test in the square just now, the examiner took a fancy to his talent and would take him to Magic High School in the big city tomorrow.

That's why he's so proud — He was the only one in this small city who could go to other big cities to learn magic. His future must be limitless. The only thing that made him uncomfortable was this Li Kong, such an abject thing.

Now that the opportunity was right in front of his eyes, he decided to teach this Li Kong a lesson.

However, just as Feng Qisun was about to beat up Li Kong, an old figure slowly appeared in front of him and stopped him from rushing forward. The old voice reached Feng Qisun's ears.

"Little friend, why are you so angry? You should calm down, calm down."

"Damn old man, who are you? How dare you stop me? Do you want to die?" Looking at the old man blocking his way, Feng Qisun was furious. He looked at the old man angrily. However, the old man just stood there like a piece of wood without moving.

"If you don't move away, I will make my move. I am a mage. Don't blame me for accidentally breaking your old bones."

Looking at the old man who still did not move, Feng Qisun regardless slammed on the ground, and his thin figure rushed out. At the same time, his right hand clenched into a fist and smashed at the old man.

"Boom!" A terrifying aura was emitted from the old man. Feng Qisun's figure immediately frozen, stiffly stopping in midair.

A pair of small fists stopped in front of the old man's forehead, unable to move at all.

Then, an even more terrifying pressure emerged from the old man's body. Feng Qisun, who had stopped moving, suddenly began to tremble. He could not even stand steadily so he collapsed to the ground. Soon, a clear yellow liquid slowly soaked the ground.

Feng Qisun wanted to resist, but his heart was filled with fear. Then, he could no longer endure the pressure and fainted.

However, Li Kong did not feel anything wrong. He continued to recall the old man's words happily. He kept repeating, "I am going to become a mage, I am going to become a mage."

The miserable Feng Qisun fainted on the street for no apparent reason. It was not until the next day when he was discovered with awful stink. Feng Qisun's father was extremely angry and said that he would find the perpetrator and cut him into pieces. Of course, this was only the latter part of the story.
