Blast from the past

Barbara’s POV:

Candy barged in the moment Allie walked out of our trailer. She is no longer hunched and her body movements, faster and limber. Her cane stood beside her like she had no need for it.

With only the two of us around, there was no need indeed.

“What?!” I snarled, annoyed that she came in unannounced once more. At times like this, I often wonder if I made the right decision when I left London with her with my pregnant belly. Candy is my cousin and my best friend who is just three years older.

The weighed blanket flung to one side of the bed and I stood up.

Yes. I could walk, I am not an imbecile and yes, I lied to my daughter but I have my bloody reasons.

“They’re here. They’ve found Allie.” Candy did not beat around the bush. She went ahead with the head shot. I froze on my feet. This cannot be happening! Not after all these years! We were careful!
