Chapter 3

“Not particulary.” I responded with. I wanted to figure out my own feelings first. “Nothing major.”

“He is the second most powerful Alpha and our neighbor. We don’t want to piss him off.” Dad warned me. Awesome. My mate, the man who doesn’t want me is the second most powerful Alpha behind my dad. And our neighbor! I should have remembered that. Mentally kicking myself for that one.

“Got it.” I said as I cut the link. Dad looked at me but dropped it. He knew something was wrong but didn’t say anything. Looking over, I could tell he was talking to my mom and I just knew it was about me. Somehow, I felt like I was five years old again.

The rest of the meal went as expected. More and more people came up to me and introduced themselves to me. I felt the disappointment when the men figured out I wasn’t their mate and the jealously in women’s eyes when their man looked disappointed. I didnt want their man but how do you tell someone that?

My dad stood up, “Since Sara has not found her mate yet, Jason will take that place and treat Sarah to the first dance!” Oh fuck, I forgot about that. My axiety flew as I looked at Jason. He was glaring at someone as he walked towards me to take my hand. I didn’t need to look to know he was looking at Alpha Dax. Daring him to make a move. Thankfully he didn’t and Jason took me to the floor. He was as stiff as a board but put on a fake smile.

“Relax, he isn’t coming.” Jason whispered low to me.

“That’s a relief.” I could feel my hands tremble in Jason’s hand.

“You need to pull yourself together. Be strong right now. You can break down crying later but right now you need to hold your own. He the girl your parent’s raised.”

He was right even though it stung a little. Straighting up my back, I put on a polite smile and danced like I was tought. He nodded in approval as he spun me around the floor. All to quickly the song ended as I just started enjoying it.

“THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL!” Someone yelled out as the song quieted down. Looking over, I saw a white hair man, in a server’s outfit holding a knife to Molly’s throat. A thin red line of blood appeared as it slid down between her breast.

I felt Jason’s anger as he was about to shit and lunge at him. My aura quickly eloped him enough that he had to obey me. “Who are you?” The room went quiet as all the men stood and were ready to attack. The tension was thick.

More servers dropped their trays and pulled out machine guns. Forcing the Alphas and everyone else to the floor. I refused to sit. I don’t sit down for anyone. Strangly, no one approached me though.

“It’s isn’t really important who I am… well maybe it does. I bet your mother can figure it out.” He white hair man was exteremly cocky as his attitude seemed carefree. His emotions were throwing me off. He was happy, confident and almost pure hatred filled his heart. It was completely black.

“I disagree. You come here, interrupt MY ceremony and have the nerve to put a knife the Duchess Molly’s throat.” I felt my eyes glow as I spread out my aura. In some ways, my aura was stronger than my mothers. The mystery man took running off with Molly when he saw this. Thankfully the gunmen were momentary stuck so when I saw the Alphas taking care of them, Jason and I ran after the strange man.

We were two of the strongest warriors and runners but couldn’t catch up to him. “Do you smell him?” I yelled at Jason as our feet pounded the wet earth.

“No, I smell Molly though. She is terrified.” Jason and I followed her scent to the woods. I felt an immediate sense of danger and stopped running. We both listened to the forest around us. No birds churping, no squirrels jumping from tree to tree, just the iry quiet of danger. A whimper sounded from our slight left as we quietly worked our way over to it. Footsteps got closer and closer to us until I was able to signal for them to stop. All of our warriors and Alphas had arrived. I felt Alpha Dax but I didn’t bother looking for him.

We were crouched down as we snaked our way through the thick brush. Tired to a tree was Molly. Her mouth was gagged and her hands were tied backwards around the tree. Her shoulder looked like it was out of place from being forced back. Her eyes darted between Jason and her unborn child.

Something wasn’t right. I could feel it. Looking around, I was trying to find what was causing me to feel this way. It wasn’t until Jason lost control that I saw the trip wire. Jason’s leg snapped it in half, causing him to fall forward. A huge log dropped from the tree with a machete sticking out the end. It came swinging down right over Jason’s head and landed in Molly’s chest with a loud thud.

“MOLLY!” Jason screamed. Scrambling to get up he ran over to her. I to, ran over and helped him pull the knife from her chest. Blood was pouring out of her mouth as Jason caught her before she hit the ground. No one said a word as they watched Jason cramble to save her life. It was no use, blood was pouring out of her wound and between her legs.

The screams only a mother could make vibrated the trees as Molly’s mother ran forward, slidding on her knees to get to them. She held Jason and Molly as they rocked her limp body. Jason put his hand over her stomach and kept repeating, “My babies.” I saw realization dawn on people’s faces as the woman cried softly on their man’s shoulders. Alpha Dax caught my eye as he was stairing straight at me. He was … concerned?” I didn’t care what he felt and decided I had enough. Shutting the door, I cut my emotions off so I didn’t have to deal with it. Unfortunatly, mate bonds don’t work that way so I could still feel his concern. What gave me pause was I didn’t think it was concern for my wellbeing.

Reed and my dad walked over to Jason and whispered something in his ear. Together they helped him stand and he carried her out. All that was left was a pool of blood.

“Black team!” I yelled. Five me immediatly came forward and nodded at me. “Go.” They took off and started hunting the man who did it.

The rest of the crowd started walking back but I knew a few of my men were hanging around for instruction. Walking over to the rope, I examined it. Smelled it. No scent was left on it other than Molly’s. The knot was a standard knot that didn’t prove anything. No footsteps were around. It looked like Molly ran out by herself and tied herself to the tree. The man was a ghost. A ghost that killed my sister.

As I turned to leave, something silver caught my eye. Laying on top of the bush was a white hair strand. Just a single strand of hair that shimmered just right in the moonlight. “Ben, get a forensic team down here and comb it. There is a hair here, I want it analyzed. Obviously, top priority.” I said.

Ben took off running, and another warrior came to guard the hair. “Princ- sorry, my queen, the gunmen?”

Looking up, I saw Samuel was looking pissed as he stared at the blood. “Take them to the cells. I will personally handle the interrogation tomorrow.” My men flinched as that and left. That almost made me crack a smile. I studied advance interrogation techniques and they aren’t for the weak stomach.

Following behind me, I felt someone coming up behind me. “Can I help you, Alpha Dax?” Stopping suddenly, I turned to him, almost running into me.

“Just making sure you get home, okay.”

“You realize that I am the most powerful person alive? Not even you could handle my aura. What could you possibly do for me?” snorting, I turned to walk away.

“You don’t have to be a bitch!” He yelled after me.

That stopped me in my tracks. Rounding on him, he was smiling. “Excuse me? You were the one that wanted to reject me, so please, let’s get this over with because you are the least of my concerns right now.” I opened my arms wide and invited him to reject me.

“I wasn’t going to reject you. You caught me off guard, is all.”

“Let me start, I, Sar-” Alpha Dax’s eyes got wide as he realized what I was doing. Without realizing what he was doing, he grabbed the back of my neck and planted a hard, passionate kiss on my lips. I was so taken aback that I didn’t even realize at first what was happening. Sparks shot out all over my body, as I could physically feel a thread snap into place. Connecting his heart to mine. The feeling was suffocating as it took over all your senses. Nothing compared to it. The kiss ended as quickly as it started.

Alpha Dax rested his forehead against mine. Without saying a word, he stormed off and left me standing in the middle of the forest, alone.

OMG, you already killed off an important character. I'm not sure if my heart can handle the sequel.
