Chapter 1

ผู้เขียน: Cher
When vampires attacked the border, my Alpha mate rescued his childhood friend first, leaving me alone to face the flames. After barely surviving, I immediately submitted a request to the council of elders to sever our mate bond.

"Let's begin the ceremony." Elder Samson Acheron's voice echoed before the Moon Goddess Statue.

The council had attempted mediation three times, and each attempt failed. Tonight, I was determined to finally end this mistake of a union.

Moonlight spilled across the stone platform like silver silk. I pressed my palm against the cold surface of the Moon Goddess Statue. The power within me was instantly drawn out, silver light spreading along my arm.

"In the name of the Moon Goddess, I, Elena Morse, formally request severance of the mate bond with Alpha Damon Aldridge."

Runes flickered across the stone. The invisible bond connecting us began to tremble and twist.

"Elena, stop!" Damon's voice came from behind me, laced with a panic I'd never heard before.

I didn't turn around. "It's too late."

The instant the mate bond shattered, searing pain shot through my chest, but it was immediately followed by an unprecedented sense of relief. That suffocating feeling of being bound vanished completely.

"The ceremony is complete," Elder Samson announced.

I turned to see Damon standing there, his face ashen. Anger flickered in his eyes, mixed with disbelief.

"Elena!" He strode toward me. "Why would you dissolve our mate bond? Are you really making a scene just because you're jealous I didn't save you?"

I stared at him expressionlessly, unwilling to say a single word.

He continued with righteous indignation, "I already explained this. You have the powerful priestess bloodline, so I rescued Lydia first. You're fine now, aren't you? Can you just stop this?"

Though I'd already made up my mind, hearing him say this still brought a sharp ache to my heart.

"Think whatever you want." I fought to keep the despair from my voice. "I've completed the severance ceremony. You and I have nothing to do with each other anymore."

Seeing my absolute resolve, he finally snapped at me in fury. "Even with the mate bond dissolved, you're still a wolf of my pack!"

"Alpha Damon." I deliberately used the most distant form of address to cut him off. "Please remember your position."

His footsteps halted abruptly.

"Starting tonight, I'm giving up my elder family's surname." I looked around at the elders who had treated me as a pawn. "I'm becoming a free wolf with no pack affiliation."

The elders exchanged uncertain glances, clearly not expecting this move. Rage blazed in Damon's eyes. "You've lost your mind! Wolves without packs don't end well!"

"That's my business."

He stared at me for a long moment before finally turning to leave. Before he walked away, he threw down a leather pouch and a property deed.

"Border woodland, plus 500 gold coins." His voice was cold as ice. "Don't say I didn't take care of you."

I stared at the items on the ground until his figure disappeared, then bent down to pick up the deed. It was for a wooden cabin in the border woodland, far from the pack's chaos. This was exactly what I wanted.

The pack members gradually dispersed. Soon, I was alone before the Moon Goddess Statue. I looked up at the full moon in the night sky, feeling a true sense of freedom for the first time.

The Moon Goddess' power within me, no longer suppressed by the mate bond, was slowly recovering its original strength.

The next day, I moved into the cabin. The house was small but cozy. I set up protective wards around the perimeter, ensuring no one could easily find me.

When night fell, I lay in bed and closed my eyes. Free from the pull of the mate bond, from Damon's coldness and Lydia Sterling's false smiles, I slept soundly for the first time in a long while.

"Are you sure you're not going back?"In the Sacred Hall's moonlit garden, Kane and I sat side by side on the stone steps. I'd been back at Sacred Hall for a week now, and the tranquility here had finally helped me move past the darkness."Yes, I'm sure." I nodded. "There's nothing left there worth holding onto."Kane turned to look at me. There was an emotion in his eyes I couldn't quite read. "What about your friends?""Sarah and the others will understand." I smiled softly. "Besides, this place isn't far from the Silvermoon pack. They can come visit me."As we talked, Sarah came running into the garden."Elena!" she called out breathlessly. "Something major happened!""What is it?" I stood up worriedly."Damon broke ties with your grandfather's elder family!" Sarah said excitedly. "He uncovered evidence that the elders were embezzling pack resources. The entire family is under judgment now!"I froze. The news came too suddenly."Your grandfather and the others are all lock

Just then, an angry voice cut through the crowd."Enough! When are you people going to stop this!"It was Sarah. She pushed through the crowd and strode furiously to the center."Damon!" Sarah pointed at him. "You have the nerve to accuse Elena of betrayal? Don't you know who betrayed whom?"The onlookers fell silent, waiting for Sarah to continue. Damon's face grew paler and paler."You dare talk about betrayal? Have you forgotten what Elena did for you? Who purified your toxins day and night? Who gave up her own cultivation to care for you?"And how did you repay her? You abandoned her in a fire for another woman!"I turned to look at Sarah. I knew what she was about to say, but it was time Damon learned these truths."Do you even know what happened the night of the vampire attack?" Sarah pointed at Damon. "Do you know how badly Elena was injured?"Damon's expression changed. "Elena was injured? But Lydia said...""Lydia said Elena was fine?" Sarah laughed sarcastically. "O

"I want to go to the best restaurant for a meal," I said to Sarah the next day. Since I rarely came back here, I wanted to enjoy myself properly.Sarah nodded in agreement. "I know a good one in the city center."Blue Moon Restaurant was the most upscale place in town, lavishly decorated with an elegant atmosphere. We found a window seat and sat down. Kane was also in the Silvermoon pack territory for pack negotiations, so I invited him to join us."Are you sure about leaving the Silvermoon pack?" Sarah asked while cutting her steak."I left long ago." I sipped my red wine. "I'm a free wolf now.""What about the priestess selection...""I'm determined to succeed." My eyes gleamed with resolve. "This is my new beginning."Sarah looked at me with admiration. "You've changed so much.""Have I?""You're more confident and independent." Sarah paused, then continued, "Before, you were always worrying about Damon. Now you finally have your own life."I was deeply grateful that my

"I didn't expect to run into you here."In the ancient library of Moon Goddess Sacred Hall, a familiar voice came from behind me. I turned to see Kane standing between the bookshelves, an ancient text in his hands."Kane?" I stood up in surprise. "What are you doing here?""I'm a representative of the Blackstone pack, here for the Sacred Hall council meeting." He approached and set his book on the table. "You? The priestess selection?""Yes." I nodded. "Thank you for saving me that day."Kane's expression softened slightly. "You look much better than you did then."It was true. These three months of peaceful living had helped me rediscover myself. I was no longer that humble, eager-to-please Luna, but an independent werewolf about to become a Moon Goddess priestess."Your injuries..." Kane asked with concern."Already healed." I touched my chest lightly. "The Moon Goddess' power has self-healing properties."We spent a long time talking in the library, discussing everything fr

"You're actually still alive."Grandfather stood at my cabin door with several elders behind him. Their expressions showed no concern but anger.Three months after dissolving the mate bond, I'd been living an unprecedentedly peaceful life. Every day I practiced my Moon Goddess power, studied ancient texts, and prepared to participate in the once-a-century Moon Goddess priestess selection. But they shattered that peace.Grandfather looked at me coldly. "We're here to tell you about a decision."I waited for their judgment."You went on and dissolved the mate bond despite our attempts to stop you," Elder Mary said. "There are already rumors in the pack that we failed to raise you properly.""And?" I asked calmly."So you must go back and find a way to rebuild your relationship with Damon," Grandfather ordered. "Even if you can't be Luna, you at least need to maintain some kind of connection to preserve the family's reputation."I nearly laughed out loud. "Are you joking?""Elen

"Vampires! Vampires are attacking!"The guard's shouts tore through the night sky. I jolted awake to see flames blazing outside the window. We'd come to the border to inspect the defenses, but Damon had insisted on bringing Lydia along. Now, danger had truly arrived."Luna!" A soldier's voice carried up from downstairs, more urgent than I'd ever heard.I hastily threw on my coat and rushed out of my room, nearly colliding with an equally panicked Lydia."What do we do?" She grabbed my arm in terror. "I'm scared! Elena, I don't want to die!""Don't be afraid. We'll figure something out together." I tried to comfort her while scanning for an escape route. But the fire spread too quickly. The staircase was already blocked by flames. Thick smoke billowed up from below, and we were trapped on the second floor."Damon!" Lydia leaned out the left window, screaming for help. "Save me! Please save me!"I called for help from the right window as well, but unease crept into my heart. If
