Zara’s POV

I didn’t hear her coming.

Kora usually shuffled her feet as she walked, I should have heard her coming. But it was difficult to hear anything above my heart beat thundering inside my ears..

I felt like a lowly criminal caught stealing from a helpless old lady. And I had Lilith to thank for it.

I had thought… hoped that Kora would stay longer on the training field, especially since I sent Emmett there to ‘check in’ on his mate.

I must look so guilty right now, with her

  • Enslaved to the Mad Alpha   138: Fuck you.

Zara's POV I walked toward the guest house with my thoughts spiraling faster than my feet. A woman. The word echoed in my head like a taunt. Who could she be? Was Ike seeing someone? The idea shouldn’t have bothered me. We weren’t together. We hadn’t been for three years. He was free to move on, free to fill his space with whoever he wanted. But still. My mind, traitorous thing that it was, began flipping through possibilities. Was it someone from his past? I tried to remember if he had ever mentioned another woman before me. He hadn’t. It could be Euphoria. But she broke up with him. She had walked away. Why would she be back? Unless… Unless they were getting back together. My heart squeezed painfully at the thought, like an invisible fist had closed around it. I stopped walking for a second, forcing myself to breathe. This is ridiculous, I told myself. You are overthinking this. You came here for closure, not to unravel over hypotheticals. And even if he was with s

  • Enslaved to the Mad Alpha   138: A woman?

Zara's POV Suzie killed the engine in front of Emmett’s house, and the sudden silence felt louder than the drive over. The mansion loomed ahead of us. Even at night it didn’t look like it slept. Lights glowed in a few upper windows, and the iron gates behind us groaned shut with a finality that made my stomach tighten. Suzie glanced at me, her fingers still resting on the steering wheel. “Is this really what you want to do?” I kept my eyes on the house. On the path leading to the front door. “I need to talk to him,” I said. “You can move in without talking to Ike,” she pointed out gently. “You don’t owe him a final speech. You don’t even owe him anything.” “I am not doing this for him. I am doing this for me. I need closure.” Suzie snorted softly. “Closure is overhyped. Most of the time it’s just reopening something that was already scabbed over.” I chuckled despite the nerves clawing at my insides. “That’s… oddly poetic.” “I bake for a living. I think about layers,” she r

  • Enslaved to the Mad Alpha   136: Talk to Ike

Zara's POV I woke up with a heaviness sitting on my chest like wet cement. For a moment I just lay there, staring at the ceiling, feeling wrong in a way I couldn’t name. My body felt like it had run a marathon without me. My thoughts were sluggish, tangled, unwilling to line up in neat rows.I felt terrible. But I shoved the feeling aside.Today was not the day to fall apart.Today I was going to try. Really try. For Isaac. This time I would do everything right. No hesitation. No looking over my shoulder at ghosts with familiar eyes and dangerous smiles. Isaac was steady. Isaac was safe. Isaac loved me.After work, I would go see Ike and tell him. Tell him clearly. He cannot kiss me anymore or ever tell me he loves me. He lost that right long ago.I forced myself out of bed.The floor was cold under my feet as I crossed to the shower. The hot water beat against my skin, steam filling the small bathroom, and I stood there longer than I needed to, letting it wash over me like it could

  • Enslaved to the Mad Alpha   135: Kora?

Kali's POV It has been two days since Emmett scolded me. Two days since he had last spoken to me. Not even a glance And honestly, I hated it. Silence was worse, than shouting, than anything. All my life I've been used to scolding me for something I did wrong, at least then, I knew something I did wrong Now, I'm completely left in oblivion. I didn't even know what to do to deserve this treatment. Ike has also recovered, and he too was keeping quiet. I felt guilt, I didn't know why. It ate me alive. Ura kept rummaging my closet in search for the perfect clothes. Orders from Emmett. I asked her servally where he was taking me to buy she doesn't say. “Do you think it's what I said?” I asked abruptly, standing with only a bra and shorts. Ura turned to me, confused “ I don't understand.” “The Alpha has been avoiding me for two days. I was wondering why” I said, hugging myself. Ura sighed holding a black dress, “if the alpha is avoiding you, doesn't it mea

  • Enslaved to the Mad Alpha   134: In the Shadows

Kora’s POV"This is the third time I talked about my clothes," I hollered at a lady, not much older than I am. "They're as dirty as you, why not do me a favor and wash it off."She nodded quietly then picked up my laundry, storming out of my room.Mother walked into the dining, her make perfectly made and her smile glorious."How are you feeling today, Kora?" She started softly but I could tell something was off."Everything is fine mom. I'm just mad at how incompetent these maids can be." Readjusting myself while eating.“You shouldn't be yelling like….” Hera was saying but I cut her off.“The stupid maid couldn't do anything,” I barked, slamming my hands on the table. “Nobody in this house is capable of doing anything.”Hera Rose, “you will not speak to your mother like that.”“Oh I will mom. First off, father hasn't done anything to get me to go into Alpha Emmett's territory. I should be his Luna for goddess sake.” Fury crossed my face, “secondly, that bastard son of a nobody,

  • Enslaved to the Mad Alpha   133: Punishment

Kali's POV. I sat quietly at Emmett’s home office. The white walls mocking me while the air conditioner prickled my skin. Shivering from the cold, and was tempted to turn it off. But I didn't want to make him more angry than he already is. Emmett had seen the awkward position. He has clearly warned me to stay feet apart from Aiden. My heart slammed loudly in its ribcage, I fear it may leap out anytime. I clutched my chest, shut my eyes and breathing slowly. A trick I had learn from Aiden whenever I fett so anxious “I told you to stay away from Aiden?” His tone was calm, which was a bit surprising. “Didn't I?” He sat behind his mahogany desk, his head still bandaged. He looked to have lost a few pounds, but he looked better than before, when his face was pale. “I happened to bump into him while I was at the training house.” I said in a breath. It wasn't all a lie. His eyes darkened, the calm in tone slipping off. “You bumped into him?” he emphasized, sha
