Becoming Gyro's Driver

♡︎シ︎ CORVETTE シ︎♡︎

I fiddled with my fingers placed on my laps when the cab driver stopped the car at the front of a penthouse.

I don’t know why I am feeling this way even when I know this isn’t the first time I am preparing to go undercover.

“Have a nice day” I said to the cab driver before I swiftly slid out of the car.

The car zoomed off and I released a deep breath I didn’t even know I was holding and began walking towards the penthouse.

'Brrr' The vibration in my pockets stopped me. I dug my hands into my pocket to bring out my phone.

“Good morning, Megan. I’m in” I spoke immediately I picked the call up.

Megan is my boss. I work as an undercover detective for a magazine company; 'Splash a Star' and Megan is the head of Splash a Star.

Just like the name, Splash a star's motive is to get dirt on celebrity stars, bringing out the skeleton in their closets, and I am on an important mission today to get dirt on one of Los Angeles famous singer, popularly known as Gyro but I was anxious as shit and being a nervous wreck.

Do not get me wrong, I have done a lot of things while going undercover to get dirt on stars with being the driver to a music star the least I have done, yet I felt nervous as fvck.

“Are you there Coco?” Megan's voice brought me back to the present.

“Yes, yes, I am listening Megan” I replied.

“You are going to do just fine.” Megan said and I shook my head in disapproval.

“I don’t think so Megan, I just feel somewhat nervous right now, like something will go wrong and our cover would…”

“Hey, this is just you being skeptical, you have gone undercover in an all boys school, you have once had to go undercover in a mafia organization, should I go on with my list?” she said and I swallowed hard, staring far ahead at the building.

“I guess you are right Megan, I've got this. I will be going in now” I said, releasing my breath.

“Great! I knew you had just the right amount of courage in you to muster up, good luck by the way." She said and her end of the line went flat.

I put my phone back into my pocket and boldly walked into the building.

"I am Corvette Vicente, and I do not get nervous" I whispered reassuringly to myself under my breath before taking steps closer to the receptionist just in front.

“Hello, I am here for an interview for Miss. Gwen” I said to the receptionist calmly.

She gave a scrutinizing look at my outfit before finally glancing at my face and then smiled.

“It's room number 16” The lady replied and focused her attention back to whatever she was doing before I had walked up to her, so I didn’t bother to ask her anymore question and decided to locate room 16 myself.

Fortunately, it wasn’t something difficult to locate; it was on the left wing on the next floor and I walked right in. I was not surprised to see a good number of people in the room which I have now come to know as the waiting room on the second floor.

I noticed how the others assessed my dressing, throwing looks which they thought was subtle my way and I shrugged. I was not in the least concerned about them at all.

I was dressed in a blue skin tight jean, and a white flowery shirt that was a little off my shoulders.

My lips were coated in nude lipstick and my hair was packed into a bun, I had applied minimal foundation on my face.

Slowly, the crowd began to dissipate, and minutes later, I could count the number of us left, waiting to be attended to.

I sighed in irritation as the next person went in. Why didn’t Megan just get the position ready instead of me staying here and getting interviewed. I've been here for almost an hour just to get a slot in!

“You know she won’t pick you right?” I heard a snobby voice came behind me and I immediately turned to get a view of the person.

A blonde girl with eyes too big for her face, no offense there by the way, sat behind me throwing dagger like glares at me with her eyes like I stole her boyfriend.

“And you are?” I asked. I have no intentions of saying a word to her until I know who she is.

“I am also here for the interview, I am…”

“Who cares?” I cut her off.

“So rude” she whispered but I paid no attention to her and turned my back to her, focusing more on the long waiting list and when I would be called up.

A lady in a pencilled black skirt and blazer came out of the interview room.

“Corvette Vicente”

The call of my name pulled me away from my trip down my mesmerizing memory lane.

“Here” I replied quickly.

“Come in” The lady said. Compared to how she dressed, I sure did look different.

I stepped into the beautifully decorated yet spacious pink room, it is a sight for sore eyes, the room was befitting for a princess and of course befitting to Los Angeles princess.

“Ahem” I almost jumped out of my skin and placed a hand to my beating heart.

“Hi, I am sorry, I am really sorry, I just got carried away by the beauty of the room” I said, quickly covering up my distaste for the room's pinkish decorations.

“It’s okay, I designed it myself” she said proudly, and I could notice the twinkle in her eyes.

Does she really think this decoration is fitting for an interview room?

“Of course, it’s really beautiful” I said.

“By the way I am Gyro, as you might have known” she said and that was when I took a full look at her profile features.

Yep! This is really Gyro, the person I am supposed to dig a hidden skeleton from her closet.

“I am really sorry for being unprofessional, I am Corvette, but you can just call me Coco.” I introduced myself, adding my nickname out of nervousness.

“Coco, nice to meet you” she smiled widely at me.

“I should interview you but I won’t, I want to work with someone I can relate with and you fit just right. I mean, both you and I started from the right foot, so I think I'll give you this job” she said and I beamed. Great! I didn’t have to do much work.

“I checked your profile before you came in and I see you have a license and you've driven a Lexus and a Benz before this, that's an additional plus to you.” she said.

"Plus, you have no accident records or license revocation before. That's really the icing on the cake, topping your beautiful face."

Bingo! This is sweet, good job Coco, good job, I patted myself on the shoulder internally.

“Oh my goodness! I am so grateful for this, thank you so much Ma’am” I said excitedly.

“Well I would want you to resume tomorrow” she said and I smiled, I guess I have to begin my work immediately.

“Of course, I will be here early as possible” I replied.

“Good, be here by 8am, we need to discuss the payment and your job before you resume fully by 8.30am, so have a nice day.” She said and I smiled.

“Thanks and good day to you too.” I courtesied, before strutting out of the room overwhelmed with happiness.

I closed the door behind me and the few people who I left out there could tell my interview didn’t go bad as I was full of smiles.

Now, it’s time to inform Megan that I got in.
