Ava's POV

Quickly, I found my way into Dylan's chambers, Kirk was right behind me. I held my breath, my heart pounding in my chest. Kirk made sure I was well hidden behind the curtains, and we both watched as four men stormed into Dylan's room.

They rummaged through the room in haste. They were clearly looking for something, but they seemed to be getting frustrated. They tossed aside clothes and books, their movements becoming more agitated by the second.

"What's taking so long?" one of them bellowed, his voice laced with distraught. He appeared to be the leader of the bunch. He only watched as the others worked their way around the room.

"We need to find that scepter." The leader declared, his tone rising.

"We are doing that, but it's not here," one of the men replied, his voice equally frustrated. "We've searched every inch of this room."

The first man snarled, his hand clenched into a fist. "You're not looking hard enough," he spat. "The Alpha will not be pleased if we fail."

Ava's POVI felt a shiver run down my spine as Dylan's eyes seemed to bore into my soul. His words were laced with a darkness that I had never seen before, and it made me realize that there was more to him than met the eye."I'm not lecturing you," I said, trying to sound calm. "I'm just saying that if you can't trust your own mate, then who can you trust?"Dylan's expression didn't change, but I could sense a flicker of emotion behind his eyes. For a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of vulnerability — like all that toughness was suddenly gone, but soon, it was quickly replaced by his usual mask of confidence."Trust is a luxury that I can't afford," he said, his voice cold and detached. "In my world, trust gets you killed."I felt a pang of sadness at his words. What had happened to him to make him so cynical? I wanted to ask him, but I knew that he wouldn't tell me.Instead, I decided to change the subject. "So, you were going to tell me why you haven't revealed me as your mate," I

Ava's POVI stood before Dylan, my heart beating with uneasiness. I tried to look unfaze by his wandering gaze. I looked back straight at him, his piercing soft eyes seem to be roaming all over my dull ones."Ava, what's going on?" he asked, his voice appearing more calm as he folded his arms. "Why are you suddenly so eager to spend time with me?"I swallowed hard, trying to think of a convincing answer. I couldn't tell him the truth — that I was trying to distract him from Kirk's presence. So I did what I always did when I was nervous — I bluffed."We're mates, Dylan," I said, trying to sound confident. "We should be spending time together."Dylan's eyes narrowed, and I could sense his skepticism. He looked away from me briefly, a chuckle escape from his lips then his eyes landed back on me, this time ever more sharper. His gaze felt suspicious, but I pressed on, trying to convince him."Maybe you're afraid to show me off as your mate to the pack members," I said, trying to sound bol

Ava's POVI strolled across the paved walls of the pack house with Marietta, enjoying the glint of the moonlight on my skin. The pack house was bustling with activity, but I felt at peace. Everyone was preparing for the festivities that will come later tonight.Marietta had told me of the ritual of the Alpha treating the pack members to a banquet every once a year. And today's night just happens to be this year's banquet so everyone seems expectant.“They look so happy about this banquet,” I tilted my head towards the young ladies decorating the pack hall. “Is there more reason to that?”I saw a smile curve the edge of Marietta's lips as she observed the girls briefly before turning back to me.“They are always like that whenever it's time for Alpha to hold the banquet” she explained.“What do you mean?” I couldn't stop myself from asking. She looked at me like I'm some clueless kid, then whispered. “They hope to get a chance with Alpha.”“Get a chance with alpha?” I frowned, not unde

Dylan's POVI stood over the rogue, my eyes fixed on his terrified expression. He pleaded with his eyes for mercy, his voice quaking with fear, but I ignored him. I had no sympathy for fools like him.Damon handed me a pair of pliers, and I took them, my grip tightening around the metal. The rogue's eyes widened as I approached him, the pliers held menacingly in my hand."Please, Alpha," he begged, his voice cracking with fear. "I'll tell you anything. Just don't use that on me."I smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "You should have thought of that when you were being all boastful," I said, my voice dripping with disgust. With a swift motion, I gripped the rogue's finger with the pliers, a sharp twist and he let out a loud cry. Damon and the other guards watched, their faces impassive, as the rogue begged for mercy. But I wasn't done yet. I twisted the finger again, and the rogue's screams grew louder, more desperate. I could see the fear in his eyes, the terror that gripped his heart

Dylan's POVI saw her eyes flash briefly as she heard me. She twisted her mouth, but no words came out. Instead, she tried to move away from me, but I caged her in. This elicited a soft gasp from her. Her eyes were now looking below her feet.I scoffed inwardly as I observed her. Where did all that earlier bravado suddenly disappear to?I wanted to ask her but I chose not to. Instead, I lifted her chin to meet up with mine. Her soft amber eyes stared back at me in what I couldn't quite describe. Was it the pure innocence that radiated off them? Or was it the tender and blissful way which her pupil dilated?I imagined myself indeed making her pupil dilate and a smirk formed across my face. Even my wolf seemed to kick inside of me in joy at the naughty thoughts that formed in my head. She tried to shift from where I cage her in but I didn't allow it.“Stay,” I muttered close to her ears, contemplating biting softly on the flesh. My mouth lingered there for a while and it took all my wil
