LOGIN“I think it's about time you devour me.” I heard him say and I blinked. What was he talking about? A frown creased my face. His confidence and graceful poise seem to unnerve me. He had something about him I couldn't figure out, yet. “Wh-a-t did you say?” I stuttered, forcing myself to tear my eyes away from his face. He chuckled, then leaned closer to my ears. “I asked when you were going to devour me.” I flinched. What was he playing at? Was he flirting with me so openly? I willed myself to ignore his statement. I had a bigger task at hand to let myself be bothered by a pretty man. I cleared my throat and his eyes were now focused on me. “I have no time for your gimmicks. Excuse me.” I was leaving when I felt his hands draw me back. “You leave only when I ask you to.” He growled and I instantly felt my knees weaken. His voice carries with it some kind of authority. I felt my wolf curl inside of me. I have so many questions racing in my head. “And what did you think you are doing?” I heard the unmistakable voice of Alpha Luke as I stepped in to do my duties that morning.
“Good mor…ning alpha.” I stuttered, bowing my head as my eyes briefly landed on where he was sitting.
He had a pen on his hand and he was scribbling some things into a book.
“That didn't answer my question bitch.” He growled, stood up then walked closer to me. “Who the hell are you and what did you want in my chamber this early?”
I took two steps backwards, intimidated by his tall, burly frame but I didn't let it show in my face.
“I am here to clean your Chambers alpha.” I said gently, not meeting his gaze.
“Clean my Chambers? And you didn't know I don't like being disturbed before 9:am?”
He asked and I shook my head. Alice didn't tell me that. I wish I had knew that before, I wouldn't have been in this kind of situation.
“Who are you talking to darling?” I heard a feminine voice ask from alpha Luke's inner room.
That must be his fiancee that I have heard so much about. I have heard different tales from various pack members of how her beauty seems to shimmer brightly like the sun. Just seeing her walk into the room Alpha Luke and I stood confirmed all I've heard.
“It's no one you should bother yourself about.” I heard him say as she leaned in to kiss him.
I felt my wolf growl inwardly when they kissed but I didn't know why. My wolf rarely communicates with me so it all seemed shocking to me. Most people in the pack had termed me wolfless. They believed I was cursed by the moon goddess and would never see a mate. It was a wild belief in our pack that anyone who doesn't have a wolf is cursed and would die without having a mate.
I was still in my thoughts when I felt a hand ran across my eye and I flinched. It was Alpha Luke, apparently he had been talking to me. His fiancee wasn't by his side anymore.
“You haven't been listening to what I was saying.” He said, his eyes summing me up.
I shook my head slowly. “I'm sorry alpha.”
“Layla wants you to do some chores for her.”
He said and I assumed his girlfriend to be Layla as she was now back from the inner chamber. A polythene bag was in her hand which she immediately threw at me and I caught it just in time, thanks to my sharp reflexes from my days of training secretly.
“What's this?” I asked, looking from Alpha Luke to Layla.
Layla scoffed then asked. “It's my undies and clothes, any problem?”
I checked the bag then confirmed what she had said. It was indeed her undies. Why in the name of the seven gods is she giving me her undies and clothes? I furrowed my eyebrows. Maybe she wanted me to deliver it to the pack's drycleaner.
Layla cleared her throat, instantly gaining my attention. She must have noticed the confused look on my face.
“You should return them tomorrow before evening and make sure it is ironed.”
She said then turned to go back into the inner chamber.
“Joe takes three to four days to wash and iron.” I said which made her stop in her tracks.
She turned back with her brow creased. “Who the hell is Zoe?”
‘Oh, she didn't know the pack's drycleaner?’ I thought inwardly.
“Joe.” I corrected. That earned me a disgusted look from her.
“He's the pack drycleaner.” I explained.
She scoffed, then gave a small laugh before she faced Alpha Luke who was now back to his scribbling on the table.
“Luke, who the hell is this clown?” I was surprised to hear her ask Alpha Luke.
“I don't know, she must be new.” I heard Alpha Luke responded nonchalantly.
“That explains it.” Layla scoffed once more then gave me a hard look, maybe to intimidate me. But I didn't cower as she she expected.
I remained proudly standing on my feet, my eye fixed on hers, and that seems to infuriate her.
“Get that back to me by tomorrow or you'd be sorry!” She barked leaving me standing rooted and stunned.
I couldn't say anything as Alpha Luke's gaze was on me all through. If it was any other person, I would have throw the clothes right back. But Layla was no ordinary person; she was Alpha Luke's fiance and the daughter of another pack's Alpha too.
As I went out of the pack house, my mind was clouded with the thoughts of my sick mother who was the very reason I was here to work.
She told me the pack had been attacked. During the attack she had been infused with wolfsbane. This now affect her healing abilities. She's almost wolfless as she could now be affected by various human diseases and illness.
I had hoped to raise some money for her surgery which would barely be enough, but I have another plan to borrow from the pack bank.
I just hope everything goes smoothly as I had planned, I'm beginning to get edgy and frustrated.
As I took the alleyway that led to the hospital where my mother was currently receiving treatment, the ringing of my phone jolted me out of my reverie.
It was Dr. Alex from the hospital calling, and seeing his name suddenly brought some kind of fear in me. I picked up after contemplating for some seconds.
“Where are you Ava? You need to come to the hospital right away.” He said and immediately hung up.
I immediately noticed the urgency with which he spoke and I broke into a run. Dr. Alex was the one attending to my mother at the pack hospital and I knew it had to do with my mother when he called.
I was breathing hard as I ran into Dr. Alex's office, startling him from the list of files he was rummaging through.
“Is my mother okay doctor?” I asked, still breathing hard from how I had run so fast to the hospital.
“Your mother is fine.” He cleared his throat then added, “but won't be for long, if we don't carry out the operation in a few days.”
My mind instantly raced. What does he mean by she won't be for long?
“But you said she still have some months!” I cried out, my voice thin from exhaustion.
Dr. Alex is the pack's best doctor and he's quite efficient. But everyone in the pack knew him for his greed.
His fees were always outrageous! He's a callous and selfish man.
“Yes, it's quite surprising. Last time I checked, the cancer was in the early stage but now…..”
Doctor Alex's words were inaudible to my ears as I was now filled with my own thoughts. I couldn't watch my mother die. I had to save her one way or the other. Even if it meant going to the ends of the earth.
And with a new determination, I breezed out of the doctor's office with only one destination in mind.
Happy endingOne month later.Ava's POV The dress felt like a cloud around me, layers of soft white material. I hardly recognized the person staring back from the mirror. The makeup artist had worked magic, making my eyes seem bigger, my skin glow. It was my wedding day. The day I finally, truly married Dylan. My mate. The father of my babies. I had decided to forgive him when he didn't stop begging, and now I want to leave the past behind. This was a new dawn. I stared at the beautiful gown I was wearing. The dress felt heavy, maybe a bit much for me, but I didn’t care. Not today.Elora was beside me, fussing with the veil, adjusting a stray curl. She looked so happy, her face soft with contentment. She’d found her mate a few weeks ago – Kane, Dylan’s Beta. It felt right. Kane was good, solid, responsible. He would take care of her, just like Dylan took care of me. I was so happy for her, truly happy."Almost ready," Elora murmured, giving my shoulders a gentle squeeze. "You look b
Dylan's POV The pack hall felt different today. Quieter, despite the number of wolves gathered inside. After the confessions, after Jake’s end, everyone knew this was coming. The reckoning. The people he’d named. My step-sister, her mate, and Jasmine. The doors opened, and Damon alongside some pack fighters walked in, escorting three figures. Alpha Luke, my step-sister, Layla. And Jasmine. They were flanked by guards, their movements constrained but not physically harmed.Alpha Luke was the first to react. His face was red with fury, his eyes blazing as he was brought to a stop in the center of the hall. He looked around at the assembled pack, then his gaze locked onto me.“Dylan! What is the meaning of this nonsense?!” he roared, his voice echoing in the sudden silence. “Why have you brought us here like this? You can’t just abduct an Alpha and his mate!”I didn’t answer him. I didn’t even look at him. My gaze was fixed on Layla, who stood beside him, her usual haughty demeanor comp
Dylan's POV “I will keep trying, Ava,” I said, my voice low and determined. “I will seek your forgiveness, your love, every single day. I will prove to you that I am not the fool I was. I will prove that I deserve you. I will get your heart back.”I didn’t wait for her to respond. I knew what her answer would be. I turned and walked to the door, my steps heavy. As I stepped out, I muttered the words again, a vow to myself, a desperate hope in the face of despair. “I will get your heart back.”Kane was waiting for me outside. He looked at my face, his expression understanding. He had heard when Jake had confessed so he understood perfectly what was going on.“Alpha?” he asked softly.I ran a hand through my hair, feeling the exhaustion and the weight of the conversation pressing down on me. “She’s… she’s hurting, Kane,” I said, the words difficult to push past the lump in my throat. “She heard Jake. She knows the truth.”Kane nodded. “Give her time, Alpha,” he said. “She’s been throug
Dylan’s POVThe next morning, the first thing I did, after making sure the pack was secure, was go to see the pups. They were being kept in one of the warmer, safer rooms in the main house. Elora, one of Ava's friends, was there, watching over them. She smiled kindly when I entered.“They’re sleeping soundly, Alpha,” she whispered, gesturing to the small bundle of blankets on the floor.I walked over, my steps quiet. My heart swelled as I looked down at them. Three small, perfect forms, nestled together. My children. I hadn’t seen them since they were tiny newborns, snatched away from Ava by Georgia and Sylvester. Now, they looked a little bigger, their features more defined. They had dark hair, like Ava. My scent was strong around them, a mix of pride and fierce protectiveness.I knelt down beside them, my wolf stirring inside me, a deep, rumbling purr of contentment. My pups. Safe. Home. One of them stirred, a tiny hand reaching out from the blankets. I gently placed my finger in hi
Dylan's POV“Stop,” I laughed. “Where's the fun in that? I still have to cut some limbs and feed it to my hounds.”He continued pleading but I ignored his pleas. He had shown no mercy to my children, no mercy to Ava. He deserved none from me. I kept the scissors and pressured hard on his wound, a steady, agonizing weight. He screamed, a raw, desperate sound that tore through the morning air. “Okay! Okay! I’ll talk! I’ll say everything! Just stop!”I held it for a few more seconds, letting him truly feel the depth of the agony, letting the message sink in. Then, slowly, I released the pressure.Jake slumped forward, panting, shaking, his eyes squeezed shut. He was broken. I could see it in his eyes, only the silver chain was able to hold him in place.“Talk,” I repeated, my voice cold and flat.He took a deep, shuddering breath, then another. His eyes fluttered open, meeting mine. The madness was still there, lurking beneath the fear, but the defiance was gone.“It was… it was because
Dylan's POV The first rays of sunlight were breaking over the horizon as we reached the borders of Moonstone territory. The familiar scent of the air in the border hit my nostrils. The scent of safety and belonging, washed over me, a wave of relief so potent it made me so relaxed. The pups were safe. Tucked into the back of a separate car, sleeping soundly, oblivious to the hell they’d been through. Ryan and Kyle had done good. They’d found them exactly where Jake said they would be. Bringing them back felt like bringing a piece of my soul back home. We pulled into the heart of Moonstone, the pack members gathering around, their faces a mixture of joy, relief, and grim determination. The news of the fight, how we defeated Sylvester and Georgia had spread quickly. But the news about Jake and the pups… that was the wound that was still fresh, still bleeding. Ava was being helped out of her car, moving slowly, holding her head. Mitchell was right there beside her, supporting her. Ava
