Chapter 8

“I heard Alex got home yesterday,” I nodded at Maisie. “Where did you go yesterday? You and Captain left us.”

I pressed my lips, not minding her question. She gave me a playful smile. This girl will not stop nagging me unless, I’ll answer her question. I don’t want to answer it either. I’ll just let her nag me all day.

“So, Alex arrived yesterday?”

“Are you deaf?”

“No, I’m mute.”

My eyes darted to the two: Adira and Worth. They’re at it again. My cousin was happy seeing Adira’s annoyed face. I don’t know why he’s enjoying in annoying Adira.

“Did you saw Captain?” Alas asked out of nowhere.

My forehead creased. Come to think of it, I didn’t even saw him today. I didn’t even see him in the field.

“He’s not feeling well.”

I looked at my cousin, asking. “Well, someone was having so much fun standing under the rain as if she’s Bella Swan, so our Captain took the courage to be her Jacob Black even though he wants to be her Edward Cullen.”

My mouth parted and I quickly turned away. The girls looked at me while raising their eyebrows. I should’ve known that this guy will eventually know everything about it.

“Why did you imitate Bella's rain scene?” Adira laughed.

“You’re doomed.” Worth added.

“Give me his address.”

My cousin wiggled his eyebrows. I glared at him. It’s so obvious that they want me to check if their Captain was still alive.

“You’ll give his address or I will make your phone explode in front of you?”

His emerald eyes grew bigger. The corner of my lips lifted when I saw him gulped. I arched my brow and looked at him, signaling to hurry up.

“Amber!” he groaned while the others burst out laughing. I coldly look at his emerald eyes. His face turned pale because of my stare.

He pouted his lips. “Fine, I surrender.”

“You forgot that she can do that bro!”

“He already tried it to Alex!”

“Agree! Alex laptop exploded like a bomb!”

I rolled my eyes. They’re reminiscing about the ‘incident’ happened five months ago. It was so funny because my brother cried that time.

“How can I forget about it?” he scoffed. “She made her brother cry.”

“Add up that Alex's room exploded too!”

“Alex really shed so many tears from that.”

“It’s his fault in the first place,” they laughed from what I said. “He should take that as a lesson.”

I clearly remembered his crying face when he saw his burned laptop and his room. Our parents didn’t scold me instead; they told my brother to take my warning seriously. I’m like my father. We used our knowledge in technologies to release our anger.

“We were doing our project that time,” Maisie uttered. “Then we heard a loud explosion coming from Alex's room. We thought that it’s because of short circuit or something. But it’s not, because we heard him screamed Amber’s name while crying.”

We burst out laughing because of that. I covered my face with my hands and laughed. That’s the most memorable thing that happened in my life. My brother really begged me not to do that again.

“Well, it’s his fault in the first place,” I wiped the unshed tears on my eyes. I never laughed so hard like this before.

“I thought she was busy doing our project,” Sadie chuckled. “She’s seriously typing on her laptop. I was worried that she might broke it because she was typing endlessly.”

They didn’t see that coming. I was too busy minding my own in front of my cellphone, and they thought I was doing our project. My mood was already ruin before we started our project because of my brother.

“Only to find out that she was already putting viruses on Alex’s laptop."

“I really can't imagine how you did that!”

“The codes that you used are such a headache!”

I rolled my eyes at Worth. “You’re just too lazy and dumb to understand those.”

“Bingo!” Adira exclaimed.

“What did I do to you?” he asked while pouting his lips on me then looked at Adira. “And you, don’t tell me you forgot the—”

“I got it!”

“I’m just reminding you.”

“You’re really annoying!”

My forehead creased while eyeing my cousin and Adira. They’re being secretive lately. I always noticed Adira mumbling while glaring at Worth and then my cousin will going to whispered on her making the woman's face turned red. I’m not sure if it’s because she felt shy or annoyed, but I’m a hundred percent sure that it’s making her angry.

Well, she hates my cousin to the core.

“I already texted Captain's address,” I nodded at my cousin. “Take care of him, okay?”

“I’m not her personal nurse or much more like not his maid.”

I stood up then grabbed my bag. He chuckled while looking at me. I looked at him annoyingly then read the message that he sent.

“You’re not going to your clubroom?” Arya asked.

I slipped my phone in my skirt and nodded at her. “We are not busy.”

“You will really go to him?”

“What do you think?” I raised an eyebrow and turned my back at them. I began walking away from them. I’ll just message Madeline if our club teacher announces something.

“Amber!”

My forehead creased and turned to them. Worth was smirking at me. I frowned and raised a brow.

“Are you worried for him?”

I pressed my lips. For a moment, I couldn’t utter any word. Words left. My eyes dropped on my shoes then sighed loudly before opening my mouth to speak.

“I’m not,” I uttered then turned my back at them, silently regretting what I said.

As I reached the gate of our school; his grey eyes flashed in my mind. My hand formed a fist because of the frustration that I felt. That guy was always making me do things that I hate.

I lied—I lied that I’m not worried. Because I care. I always care and that’s frustrating.

My eyes laid to the huge gate in front of me. I'm standing here for about ten minutes. The guards were telling me to go inside but I remained standing outside. It's not that I don't want to come inside—I'm just scared.

"Miss, you should go inside."

I sighed then nodded.

The huge gate opened and I can already feel my hands shaking. I took a step forward. My eyes roamed around and was amazed by the surroundings. There are pine trees stood at the sides of the path. I can see the delicate marble fountain at the center; that was in front of the mansion. My eyes widened when I saw a valley of roses planted at the side of the fountain. The mansion looks like a cut out from Architects Today magazine. It was beautiful and unapologetically modern. Its structure was made in a series of rectangles constructed steels and glasses. The roof was flat for a start and the door as wide as it was tall.

My feet glued on the ground because of the nervous feeling. I want to go back and leave. Nervousness was evident on my whole body.

"Who are you?"

My face turned white and my breathing became heavy. Despite of the loud thump of my heart; I gathered all my strength to look at the owner of that voice. I met a pair of grey eyes; it's looking at me coldly. Her aura screams authority just like the guy that I'm visiting right now.

"Miss," her voice sounds strict. "Answer me."

I wandered my eyes at her. She was standing elegantly face was emotionless. She's wearing a white long sleeve shirt underneath a grey blazer then a grey wide leg pants, and a pair of black T-strap heels. Her brown curly hair was neatly tied in a ponytail revealing her pearl earrings.

"Amber," I answered in a weak voice. "Cassidy Amber Rojas."

To my surprise, she smiled at me. The nervous feeling that I felt earlier replaced by a confusion. I watched her dialing on her phone.

"Tell Ms. Ophelia to prepare the foods," she glanced at me. "My brother's girlfriend is here."

I blinked. My lips parted while looking at her. She put her phone down while smiling. Shock was written on my face; couldn't find words to utter. She hovered her gaze at me then nodded.

"You came here for him?" she asked, crossing her arms.

"Is he sick?"

She nodded. I bit my lips. It's my fault that he's sick. If we didn't stay long in the middle of the rain, he wouldn't got sick.

"He came home with a fever," she said. "But don't worry he's fine. He will not die because of fever."

I let out a sigh relieved from what she said. She chuckled and clanged on my arms. I felt uncomfortable but still smiled at her.

"Let's go inside," I nodded. "He's probably sleeping in his room."

I have never been amazed like this in my entire life. The exterior design of the mansion was beyond perfect. I couldn't think of words to describe the interior of the mansion. Inside was minimalist. You can clearly see the outside because of the glass. There's a wide wooden glass floating stairway leading to the upper floor. A contemporary vintage lamps chandelier; hung from the rustic wood coffered beam that run from the center of the ceiling.

From here in the living room, I can see their family picture frame hanging on the white wall. I stared at it. Their father has a pair of grey eyes while their mother has a pair of brown eyes. My attention was shifted to the little girl beside Jethro. She was smiling widely looking so adorable. Her eyes caught my attention. She doesn't have a grey eye just like her siblings and her father because she has both; her mother and her father's eyes. Heterochromia, that's what it's called. It's a rare condition in which the two eyes are different in color from each other.

"Amber."

I averted my gaze on their family picture. Their sister's eyes are beautiful. I stood up on my seat and smiled softly at her. She has the same aura just like Captain so intimidating.

"Can you go to my brother's room?" she asked while showing me a tray. "He's not eating and taking his meds."

"Sure."

She gave me a smile and handed me the tray. So, Captain was quite stubborn huh? He's making me guilty.

"By the way,"

I lifted my head and looked at her. She smiled then stretched out her hands.

"I'm Diantha Jazz Martinez," she introduced. "Jethro's older sister."

My eyes widened. She chuckled making my cheeks flushed. I couldn't believe it!

"Big sis!"

We both looked at the little girl who’s running downstairs. She's so cute in her pink uniform. Her eyes went round when she found me.

"Oh my gosh!" she screamed. "Big bro!”

I blinked because of that. I looked at her sister who's suppressing her smile. They're weird.

"He's sick, baby."

She pouted at her sister. I was just looking at her amazed by her eyes. It's so good to look at. I envied her for having such a pair of that eyes.

"Your eyes are really beautiful," she beamed. "It's amber right?"

I nodded then lowered my gaze at her. She giggled. I smiled then tousled her brown curly hair.

"I'm Amber," I said then pinched her cheeks.

"I know you already."

"How?" I asked.

She grinned. "It's a secret," then she looked at her sister. "Big sis told me to keep it secret."

"Alright."

She stared at the tray that I'm holding. "You'll give that to Jet?" I nodded. "You're so sweet."

My eyes grew bigger. I'm confused, really confused. That guy should ready an explanation for this. Her sisters think that I'm his girlfriend.

"I forgot to introduce myself," she beamed. "I'm Dreama Jovie Martinez."

"Nice to meet you, Dream." Her lips parted, I giggled.

She's so adorable! I want to take her home with me!

"His room was on the left corner," I looked at Dia; she told me to call her like that. "Last room."

"Got it," I smiled. "Thank you."

"No prob."

I took a step but stop for a moment. I turned my head to her. She was looking at me with her pair of grey eyes. Her stare was making me nervous.

"I know that you're not my brother's girlfriend," her face looks serious. "But I want you to know that...

I like you for my brother."
