“How dare you, Alisha?!” Olivia roared on the phone. “After everything that my son did for you — picking you up from the damp and bringing you inside our home — you have the guts to send someone to threaten him so that he would sell his company to him?!” she snapped. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I left your home as you instructed and allowed your son to be with the one he wanted. So, what do you want from me now?” She scoffed. “You’re going to regret this, Alisha. When my son regains all that he has lost, you’re going to come back and beg for his forgiveness. In fact, I give you a week. You’re going to come crawling back on your knees, begging him to take you back in.” “Olivia, tell your son to stop implicating me in his business because I will not take any more insults from either of you, and stop calling this number.” I hung up the call and got rid of the phone since I was no longer using my old identity. I scoffed as I thought of how Santino might have gotten Lucius to sell his company to him. Francesca walked into my room and gave me a cell phone. I didn’t ask questions as I put it to my ear. “Yes?” “It’s Sakai, Camilla.” “Oh, hey!” I was thrilled. “How are you?” “I am very good, actually. Dad called to inform me about your marriage to Santino to secure the Banks and Ross collaboration. Well, I must say that I didn’t think you would go ahead with it, and with you being pregnant with his child, I am very shocked.” “When are you coming home?” I chuckled. “My wife and child will come to the States in a year and stay there for good. I hope to see you in good health, little sister.” “Me too. Thank you for calling, Sakai. Please send my love to Onika and little Charlotte.” “I will, Cammy. We’ll talk soon.” I hung up the call and gave Francesca back her cell phone. I then sighed as I sat down on the couch. “Lucius’s mother called, saying Santino threatened Lucius into selling his company. I don’t know if I should confront him or just let it be. I’ve already accepted the company as a gift and planned to host the handover ceremony when I’ve given birth.” Francesca closed the door as she came to sit down next to me. “I think you should put the handover ceremony on hold until further notice, and Camilla,” she placed her hand on top of mine."You don’t have to feel bad about this. Lucius brought this upon himself. He wasn’t a good man to you. You’re the one who helped him save the company from the brink of bankruptcy when you sponsored him anonymously. Consider this a repayment for the 2 billion dollars that you spent to save the company." “It was his inheritance, Francesca.” “He lied and cheated on you. Besides, he wasn’t making a living through this company alone. He will be okay.” I sighed. “Santino shouldn’t have done that. What if he involves his lawyers and the media in this whole thing?” “Even if he does, Santino will take care of it for you.” “Here you go again,” I rolled my eyes, chuckling. She chuckled. “I told you that the way he was looking at you in the garden, he was thinking of the many ways he was going to win your heart back.” I rolled my eyes. Even if Santino were the only man left on Earth, I wouldn’t look at him twice. “Go away, please.” She chuckled as she got up from the couch and left. *** “I have something for you.” “You do?” Santino smirked as he walked toward me after closing the front door behind him. “Well, after buying me a new company and taking me to Beverly Hills for my vanilla honeymoon, I got you something as well, just as I promised.” “Okay,” he blushed. I smiled as I handed him a small jewelry box. He took it, opening it, and when he saw the watch inside, he smiled. “I remember this one,” he looked at me and chuckled. “Rolex Paul Newman.” “I thought my gift should be this watch because I ripped your old one when you offered me money the following morning after you and I spent the night together. I wanted to show you that there was nothing valuable in your house that I couldn’t afford.” “I knew there was something about you,” he leaned closer. “You were different from the other girls; you didn’t react to me like they did, and I didn’t realize you were wealthy. If I had known, I wouldn’t have cost myself this expensive watch.” “Well, maybe next time you will learn not to underestimate me.” I gulped as I looked up at him. He smiled. “I’ve learned my lesson very well. Thank you for the gift, my wife.” I rolled my eyes and laughed. “Oh, please. Bye, Santino.” I walked past him and headed upstairs to my bedroom. “Remember your floor in the house.” I reminded him as I went to mine. He was staying on the first floor and only shared the second floor with me for the flex room and the sitting room, while I was staying on the third floor. “Very well!” He answered back. When I got into my room, I went to the closet to get something to wear to go shopping for my new maternity wardrobe. Francesca came with me, and when we got to the store, I took everything I wanted and was about to head over to the cash register to pay for my clothes when an intercom notification stopped us. “This is Justin Lee speaking, the manager of the store. I would like those inside still shopping to excuse the store for a few minutes. Daniel Ross’s daughter is here for her shopping, and she has asked for privacy. I apologize to all of you for the inconvenience.” Francesca turned to me, scolding. “They can’t do that. This is an insult. I am sure this news will shock Annika. She’s not even in the States, and someone is already claiming her identity.” “It’s okay, we have to go. Sasha is here.” “Sasha? She’s the one claiming to be your uncle’s daughter?” “I know, but we have to go.” I left the shopping cart in the aisle and took Francesca’s hand as we headed to the door to leave, when Sasha saw me. I wondered why she came all the way from Florida to Chicago for shopping. “Alisha, what a surprise!” She laughed as she drew attention to us. “I must say that I never expected you to be shopping in such a store. It doesn’t really suit your class.” “How -“ I grabbed Francesca’s wrist when she was about to pounce on her. Sasha laughed. “Lucius won’t believe this when I tell him. Anyway, I can’t shop here anymore,” her eyes darted between me and Francesca. “I’ll go elsewhere. I don’t like shopping with peasants.” “Let’s go!” She instructed her guards, and they all walked away. When the store manager saw this, he walked to me, frowning. “From henceforth, you and your friend are banned from the store. You don’t know how much money you have cost us and the trouble that you’ve put us in for upsetting Daniel’s daughter.” “That’s a shame,” I answered. “If I were you, I would know my place and learn to hold back my tongue before it gets me in trouble.” I took Francesca’s hand and walked out of the store with her, heading back to our car in the parking lot.•SANTINO•“Nikolai,” I answered the call.“Who’s this?” he asked.“You’re speaking to Santino. I’m afraid that you have to come to the Banks Mining site. We can’t talk on the phone.”“What? Where’s my son? I want to talk to him now.”“I’m sorry, Mr. Sanders, but you have to come to the company right away. It’s urgent.”“If anything happened to my son, Santino, you’re going to regret it. You’re going to mold him to life with your own hands. That’s a promise.”He hung up the call, and I gave the cell phone back to Frank and walked back to my office.‘Fuck.’ I got inside my office and made a call to the social media team and to our journalist so that we could get the story about the incident in public before someone distorts the entire story.I looked at my wristwatch, and it was already nearing 5 PM. I had to make sure that I was done by 6 PM so that I could get everything ready with Cole.“Hey, Daddy. I’m here,” Naeve’s voice snapped me to earth as she closed the door and walked toward
CAMILLA•“Oh, baby, I hope you’re going to get well soon. You know that our home is not complete without you. In the meantime, I’ll manage our factories and make sure that everything runs smoothly,” Cecilia said to my father.“Thank you, honey, but I’m fine.” My father insisted.“You can rest, Dad, and trust Asher and me to oversee the hotels that you entrusted to our care. We won’t let you down. We will make sure that everything runs smoothly.”“Yes, Dad, including the Elysian Fields Mall that Paxton and I have been overlooking these past few months. We are going to make sure that we don’t let you down.”Do you see?” Cecilia beamed. “You can trust us to take care of the family business. You can tell Santino that I am a capable person for the project. I know the ins and outs of our business, Don.”I rolled my eyes as I walked to the door and left. There was no use. They all acted oblivious to my presence, anyway, so there was no need to be there.Luckily, we were at a very exclusive h
•CAMILLA•“Miss Camilla,” the butler, Alec, bowed his head after opening the front door for me.“Hey, Alec. Thank you.” I walked straight ahead and saw Paxton approaching in the hallway.“Hey, Pax. Is Dad home? I need to talk to him.”“What’s happening? Is there anything wrong?” He asked when he saw the frown on my face as I looked in the living room and then bolted my eyes to the staircase, leading to his study.“There’s nothing wrong. You don’t have to worry about that,” I was frowning. I was angry and hormonal.I was tired of Cecilia’s abuse and wanted to put an end to it all. I didn’t want to be abused by her in my father’s house anymore. But before I could step onto the staircase to the second floor, Asher was already in my face.I was angry at him. He was my brother and didn’t have to say all the things he said to me, all because of Cecilia.“Get out of my way, Asher, I’m not here for you,” I hissed.“Father is busy,” he responded.“I don’t care; I will see my father if I want t
•SANTINO•“Giovanni will come back from his last day of campaigning as the mayor of Chicago and will go to see his son before heading to his house. He usually spends about an hour with his baby mama, probably getting some, and then gets home around 8 PM for dinner.”“How heavy is his security system?” I asked after Cole informed me about what he found about Giovanni’s schedule for the day.“He has a surveillance system around his property, including 3 security guards at the gate and 2 security guards on each floor of his 5-storey house.”“So, we have 13 security guards to take care of?”“Probably 16, including the 2 that he goes around with and the one who watches his surveillance cameras in the house. We have to figure out how we are going to get past that.”“Tony was Giovanni’s former bodyguard, so he knows the way around the house, including the secret entrances and exits. We will also get clothes that are worn by the security guards just so that we can blend too easily without dra
•CAMILLA•“My God, can you believe what’s trending?” Francesca scoffed as I walked into the living room and found her on her laptop.“What is it?” I asked, sitting down with my bowl of cereal.“Sasha Ross,” she looked at me. “She told the journalists that she left the Parus shopping store because two women were invading her privacy and making her uncomfortable. She called us opportunists.”I rolled my eyes with a sigh. “Well, I hope she’ll leave Chicago soon before we bump into Lucius. I don’t want to see him.”“Seems like she wasn’t planning on being in Chicago for too long. Her new location on her social media is New York City.”“That’s better.”“My God, we have to expose her, Camilla. She’s not related to you. I can’t believe she has the nerve to flaunt herself as a fake Ross on social media.”“We should let her do as she wants, Francesca. She won’t be able to keep her lie for too long, anyway.”“I just hate her fucking nerves. She must be arrested for this. I wonder what Lucius is
•SANTINO•“Shit,” I sighed as I picked up the pictures from the floor. She busted me.My cell phone rang as I put the pictures inside the envelope and placed it inside my bedside drawer.“Yes, Paul?”“I have four men with me, sir. Two of them are good with their guns; one is a martial arts teacher, and the other is Giovanni’s former bodyguard. They let him go after he was absent from work, attending to his sick mother.”“That’s good. Thank you, Paul. Please tell them to be in my office at the club by 9 in the morning. I have to talk with them in person.”“Alright, sir.”I hung up the call, and though I was angry that Camilla got inside my room and snooped around while I wasn’t around, I had to explain the pictures that she found.I went to the third floor and knocked on her door. She didn’t answer, but I could hear her sniffling.“Camilla, I’m sorry. I know what you saw was strange, but I wasn’t stalking you. You were gone for quite a long time, and I needed to know that you were okay
•CAMILLA•“Camilla, what are you doing in my room?”I looked at the pictures on the floor and felt my blood boiling. Yes, I invaded his privacy by coming into his room, but he had been stalking me for years! One picture was taken after a year I had been in Brooklyn, and during that time, I was already married to Lucius. My mind was all over the place, and my heart was racing. I was angry. I was fuming and knew that I wouldn’t be able to say the right words, so I walked out the door and said nothing to him. When I got to the third floor, I got inside my room and locked the door behind me. I kept pacing up and down, asking myself what the pictures meant.Santino and I shared only one night of pleasure, then we were strangers until he arrived home with my stepmother, and my stepmother told me he was my arranged husband.I remembered the day perfectly when he walked into the living room, and when he saw me, he scowled. It was clear he didn’t agree with the whole thing as well. He didn’t w
•CAMILLA•“Have you heard that Lucius Hall got married to Don Ross’s niece? It’s believed that his brother, Daniel, has a daughter, and she’s the one who just tied the knot with the billionaire in Florida.”“Really? I wonder why we haven’t seen the family together, especially Camilla Ross. She’s also the only daughter of Don Ross. I expected that she would have social media platforms to flaunt her fabulous lifestyle and wealth.”“Maybe she doesn’t like the spotlight. I’ve heard that she’s not ideal to look at. Makes sense why she’s being hidden from the public.”I scoffed as I turned off the podcast and got up from the couch. I put on my coat and went to get something to eat from the kitchen that I shared with Santino.“I don’t think that she should be in charge of the project. We both know that she knows nothing about the family business, Don. When are you going to realize that your daughter is a leech who wants to feed off other people’s hard work and not do anything for herself?!”
•SANTINO•“Haley?”She chuckled when she saw me. “I knew I had to lie about having a baby to see you. I can’t believe that you’re still a playboy, buddy.”“What are you doing here?”“It’s been a long time, Sanny. I had to come over and check up on you. The last time we saw each other, it was during Derrick’s funeral.”Derrick’s funeral was 2 years ago. He was one of my best friends, and a shootout killed him. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.“You know you didn’t have to lie about your name and being pregnant for me if you wanted to see me.” I opened the door in my office and let her in.“Well, you and I left things hanging the last time you returned to Chicago. So, how was I to know that you still wanted to see me?”I turned to her and scoffed. “Your brother didn’t want us together, remember? I didn’t want to make you choose between me and your family.”“Travis just wanted to see if you had balls. I guess you proved him otherwise.”“Does he know that you’re here?”She sigh
