Alex parked at the corner of the roadside and walked toward me, his eyes moving over my face.
“What’s going on?” he asked. “I thought you had a car.”
I looked away, fighting the tears threatening to spill. I wasn’t going to cry in front of him.
“Come on. Let me drive you.”
He opened the passenger door, and I climbed inside.
“Thank you, Alex.” I buckled my seat belt. “I thought you were already at school. The first lecture is almost over.”
He started the engine and pulled away from the roadside.
“You know, you should be more concerned about yourself.”
“What do you mean?”
“Your—”
“My GPA.” I cut him off, knowing exactly where he was going. “Don’t worry about me.”
I turned toward the window, hoping he would drop the subject.
“Today is the third day of our fake relationship, so we have four days left before we end this.”
He glanced at me, his expression shifting.
“I wanted to ask if that sits right with you. You don't seem to care about it.”
I frowned. Why did he suddenly sound bothered?
“Why should I care about a fake relationship?”
The words came out sharper than I intended.
The car fell silent.
“I’m not saying you should.” His fingers tightened slightly around the steering wheel. “I was just asking.”
I said nothing.
After a few moments, he cleared his throat.
“There’s a house party at seven. Are you going?”
I shook my head.
“I don’t have money to attend a house party, and I’m not interested anyway.”
“Oh.” He shrugged. “It’s okay. Maybe I’ll go alone.”
I sighed and leaned back against the seat.
If only he knew what kind of mess I was in.
My bank card was frozen. My phone had been smashed. I didn't even know how I was supposed to get through the rest of the day.
“What happened this morning?” Alex asked as he pulled up in front of the lecture hall. “I was trying to talk to you when your phone suddenly cut off.”
I opened my mouth to explain, but before I could, my eyes landed on Professor Lydia walking out of the hall.
“Oh no, fuck!”
I pointed toward her as she disappeared into the crowd.
“The class is over.”
Alex followed my gaze.
“We’ll get the notes.”
I nodded, still watching Professor Lydia walk away.
Seeing her reminded me why I had chosen Sports Management in the first place.
Three years ago, before Fiona came into the picture, my adoptive parents had encouraged me to study it, especially my father. They believed I would eventually become the heiress of the Williams Hockey Club, even though I had never been particularly good at hockey or sports.
I had agreed because I wanted to make them proud. I wanted to prepare myself for the future they had envisioned for me.
Back then, I believed I would one day take over the rink and prove I was worthy of everything they had given me.
Now that Fiona had entered our lives, I wasn't even sure that future still belonged to me.
“I should get down.”
I reached for the door handle.
“Where are you going? Our next class starts in two hours.”
“You can stay with me until then.”
Alex gave me a puppy-dog look.
Before I could answer, movement across the parking lot caught my attention.
Michael was running after Fiona.
“Why are you ignoring my calls?”
His voice carried across the area. He sounded tense, almost desperate.
I stared.
Michael was practically begging her.
He had never begged me like that.
Fiona finally turned around, her expression hardening.
“Are you uncomfortable?” Alex asked, following my gaze.
“If you don’t want to see them, we can drive somewhere quiet.”
I shook my head, unable to tear my eyes away.
“Forget about what happened that night!”
Fiona's voice rose, drawing the attention of the students around them.
“Yes, we had sex, but I can’t date a guy who leeches off women.”
Michael's face tightened.
A few students stopped walking. Then someone pulled out a phone.
“I leech off women?”
“Yes, you truly leech off women.”
Fiona's voice was loud enough for everyone nearby to hear.
More phones appeared.
I watched Michael's humiliation unfold in front of the crowd.
Then John appeared.
The guy Alex had introduced to me as the Westbrook Ravens captain.
He wasn't with the girlfriend he had compared me to at the hotel this time.
He stopped near the crowd, his attention fixed on Fiona and Michael.
“I think we should leave,” Alex murmured.
“Hold on.”
I kept watching.
His eyes narrowed.
“Why are you so invested in this?”
I turned toward him. “What?”
“Do you miss Michael?”
A frown settled across his face.
“Why would I miss—”
I stopped myself.
“Why do you care?”
“Why am I the one who cares?” His voice carried a hint of irritation. “You’re the one who keeps staring at him.”
“I’m not staring at him.”
“You've been watching them since we got here.”
I rolled my eyes.
“Man, why are you so obsessed with him?”
“I'm not obsessed with him.”
“Was his dick that good?”
I stared at him.
Did he seriously just ask me that?
I grabbed the water bottle from the cup holder and twisted off the cap.
“Why would you say something like that?”
I poured the water out of the bottle.
“You keep acting like he has the best dick in the world.”
Alex's lips curved into a teasing smile.
“I think you should taste mine.”
I immediately covered my ears.
“I don't want to hear this anymore.”
He laughed.
“What?”
“Just drive.”
I lowered my hands and sighed.
“What quiet place should we go to?”
“Probably one of the cafeterias.”
Alex turned the car away from the lecture hall.
I glanced back toward Fiona.
The moment she saw John, something changed.
The colour drained from her face.
Her eyes widened.
Fear flashed across her features before she quickly looked away.
I frowned.
Why did seeing John affect her like that?
And what exactly was she afraid of?
ALEXI slowly opened my eyes and looked around the unfamiliar room. My body hurt, and it took me a moment to realize I was in a hospital bed. When I turned my head, I was surprised to see Fiona beside me.“You're awake,” she said softly.I looked down and noticed a needle in my arm connected to a tube leading to a blood bag hanging beside my bed. I stared at it for a moment, trying to remember what had happened.“You lost a lot of blood,” Fiona explained. “The doctors said you needed a blood transfusion immediately. My blood was compatible with yours, so I donated.”I nodded, but my thoughts were still scattered.“Where is Lilian?” I asked, my voice weak.Fiona was about to answer when the door opened. Lilian walked in, and I immediately felt better seeing her.“Lilian,” I called. She hurried over to my bed and took my hand. I could see the worry on her face, and I held her fingers gently.Mr. Williams came in behind her. He stood beside the bed, looking at me with a serious expressio
LILIAN“What?” I asked Fiona as she stepped into the emergency room.“You heard me right,” she said, glancing in my direction. “You’re not compatible with him.”“What do you mean? How the hell do you know my blood type and whether I’m compatible with Alex?” I asked, staring at her and waiting for an explanation. She stared at me for a moment before shrugging. “I mean, I just wanted to be the one to donate blood to Alex,” she said. “I owe him.”She reached into her pocket and pulled out some cash. “I have enough money to cover his medical bills,” she said, her voice pleading. “Please, just start the operation.”We were taken into a room where our blood types were checked, our blood samples were also screened. I couldn’t donate to Alex because our blood types weren’t compatible.Strange.How did Fiona know she could donate to Alex?I picked up my phone and glanced at the screen. The competition had already started, and the Westbrooks had been reinstated.I sighed and rubbed my temples a
LILIANAs soon as the call ended, I rushed toward the bathroom, still smiling. Alex, my man, was about to get on the ice, and just thinking about my sexy man made my cheeks turn pink.I stopped in front of the mirror and stared at myself. “Oh my God,” I muttered, touching my temples. “I look like a mess.”I quickly brushed my teeth, had my bath, and changed into something light. I wanted to be ready before the competition started because I didn't want to miss a second of Alex being on the ice.I hurried back to the living room and turned on the TV, expecting to see the event already starting. Instead, the screen showed something else.I frowned and checked the channel again. “What is going on?” I muttered, glancing at the time. The competition was supposed to start by now, yet there was still no sign of it. I stared at the screen, wondering if there was a problem with the signal.I suddenly reached for my phone when a wave of uneasiness washed over me. My eyes widened when I saw the m
ALEX“The Westbrooks?” I asked Lilian in surprise. “I don't mean to brag, but if I were still captain, the Westbrooks wouldn't have been able to override the Williams team.”I pulled my phone from my pocket, connected to the Wi-Fi, and opened WhatsApp to check the latest updates. My fans were disappointed that the Westbrooks had been chosen to compete in Singapore, while the Westbrooks themselves were celebrating, with John showing off about their opportunity.“Let's go to school,” I said, holding out my hand to Lilian, and she intertwined her fingers with mine. When we got to school, my phone beeped, so I pulled it from my pocket and checked the message. It was from Mr. Williams, asking me to see him after classes.“Is anything wrong?” Lilian asked, glancing at me.“Mr. Williams asked to see me,” I replied. She stared at me, and I could see the shock, surprise, and obvious fear in her expression. “Don't worry, Lily,” I said, trying to reassure her. “I won't leave you, no matter what.
LILIANHe stared at me, his eyes fixed on mine as his entire expression changed, clearly interested in what I was about to say. “What memories?” he asked.I sighed, trying carefully to remember before answering. “I don't know. It is strange because I don't remember the whole thing. Sometimes I see a place, but the moment I try to hold on to it, it disappears.”He pulled me into a tight hug. “Everything will be fine,” he whispered.“If remembering it is going to traumatize you, then I bet you shouldn't remember it,” he said, and I stared at him, suddenly upset. “I really do want to remember, Alex.”I looked down for a moment before continuing. “I don't like that I can't remember anything, especially when it comes to my scars. I know I wasn't born with them, so why can't I remember anything about how I got them?”“Apart from the scars, is there any other reason you want to remember?” he asked me.There was really no other reason I had thought of, but now that he mentioned it, I wondered
ALEXAfter we were done bathing, Lilian walked towards the closet as if she wanted to get dressed. I stopped her immediately and looked at her. “You are sleeping naked,” I said, allowing the words to linger between us.“Huh?” She turned towards me, and the movement made my attention drop to her body. For a moment, I forgot what I wanted to say as I stared at her, completely captivated by the way she looked.“Come with me,” I said, reaching for her hand and leading her back towards the bedroom. I lay across the bed and looked at her as she stood there, still unsure of what I wanted. “Lily, can you help me?” I asked, my voice dropping as I watched her slowly walk towards me.She came closer, her eyes fixed on mine as she tried to figure out what I wanted from her. I swallowed hard, fighting the urge to pull her closer as she stopped beside the bed. The sight of her made it difficult to think about anything else.“What?” she questioned.“What I whispered to you in the bathroom,” I said.S
