LILIAN

“I'll call Michael and make him realise what he lost,” Alex said. I turned to look at him, wondering what Michael could regret losing. I was ugly, so he never lost anything.

Thankfully, I had never bluffed about being the hockey organisation owner's daughter before Fiona came into the picture. “Your phone,” Alex said. I handed it to him.

He glanced at the screen before looking at me. “Do you know how to fake a moan?” My heart started skipping.

I had never been touched, and I had always dreamed that my first kiss would be with Michael. But he never gave me one. He always avoided me whenever I got too close, making it clear that my scars disgusted him and that he found me unattractive.

“I'll teach you,” Alex said. I removed my headset and set it aside. Alex called Michael, and within seconds, the noise coming from the other room stopped.

“See? She called,” Michael said, laughing. Fiona's voice came through with a laugh. “Of course you are the prize.”

“I knew you'd call me begging,” Michael said. My fingers curled into the sheets. “If you want me back, perhaps you can start by paying for my flight ticket.”

My stomach dropped. The flight ticket. I had promised to book Michael's flight because he wanted to travel solo to Canada.

I had been ready to do it without hesitation, but suddenly it didn't matter anymore. Alex looked at me. Then his hand settled against my neck.

I sucked in a breath as he leaned closer, and a sound escaped me before I could stop it. His lips brushed my forehead. A sharp crash came from the other room.

I froze. Michael had heard us. Alex's eyes met mine, and the corner of his mouth lifted.

He suddenly stopped teasing me. His fingers traced the scars on my face, and his expression changed. “What happened?” he asked. “How did you get these scars?”

“I can't remember,” I said. Alex's eyes stayed on my face. “I don't remember anything from my childhood.”

“You don't remember?” I shook my head. “No matter how hard I try, I just can't remember.”

My voice came out shaky. Alex watched me for a moment. Then Michael's voice came from the other room again.

“How can Alex disgrace the family like this?” I looked at Alex. He chuckled.

“Won't this cause trouble?” I asked. “Shh,” he said. He raised his hand.

“Michael will call me in five seconds.” He looked at his watch. “Five.”

“Four.” My heart began pounding. “Three.”

“Two.” I stared at him. “One.”

His other phone rang. Alex picked it up. “You're in a hotel with that fattie, Lilian?” Michael asked.

Alex scoffed. “Jealous already?” Michael laughed.

“Jealous?” Michael said. “Of Lilian, when I have Fiona, the hockey organization owner's daughter?” Alex's expression remained calm.

“Then why do you keep bringing her up?” Alex asked. “Because you're too hot for her?” Michael laughed.

Alex's smile disappeared. “Quit your obsession. She dumped you.” He ended the call.

I stared at him. “I think I should go now.” I swallowed. “This environment is toxic for me.”

“I'll drive you,” Alex said.

“Hell no.” I shook my head. How could I possibly allow him to drive me? I never wanted anyone to know where I was staying.

Fiona had made it clear that I should never tell anyone I was the adopted daughter of Mr. Williams,  the owner of the Williams Hockey Club.

Fiona had made it clear that I should never tell anyone I was the adopted daughter of Mr. Williams. He was my father and the owner of the Williams Hockey Club, one of the biggest hockey organisations in the country.

“Never mind,” I said. “And thanks for today.”

I left the hotel, booked a cab, and headed home. When I arrived, Mom was standing outside.

“What are you coming home so late for?” she asked. I looked at her. “Is that a problem?”

Ever since Fiona came into our lives, Mom had made everything an issue. I was fucking twenty-two, already in my senior year in college, and I wasn't a minor.

“Your father has spoiled you too much,” Mom said. “That is why you keep acting like this.”

She shook her head. “I'm so glad Fiona is my daughter.” It was the same line she'd been using for the past month.

“You're ugly, Lilian,” she continued. “You need to start going to the gym, so some guy will take you seriously.”

I smiled. Suddenly, Fiona stepped out of a car as our driver opened the door for her. “Mommy!” she called, rushing toward Mrs Williams.

Mom smiled at her. “You had fun, huh?” Fiona smiled back, and I walked past them without saying a word.

I ignored them and went upstairs. Once I settled into my room, I picked up my phone and stared at Michael's contact.

One part of me wanted to beg him. “Fuck off!” I screamed and hit the block button instead.

I switched on the television and tried to focus on the news. A few minutes later, Fiona walked into my room.

“You had sex with Alex?” she asked. I slowly looked at her. “That doesn't concern you.”

“Hey, this is my house.” She folded her arms. “You're just an adopted daughter, so mind how you talk to me unless you want me to tell Mom.”

I smiled. “What do you need information about my sex life for?” Fiona's eyes moved over my body before she laughed.

“Your body is rough, your tummy is big, and your face is filled with scars.” She looked at me again. “Alex must be joking.”

“You have Michael now, so why do you keep mentioning him?” I asked. Fiona stepped closer.

“Do you think I would stoop for Michael?” she asked. “That broke guy who leaches off women—and who leached off you?”

“I need a man who can take me on fancy dates.” I stared at her. “Then why did you sleep with him?”

She smiled. “Because I wanted to prove to you that I can get anything you own.” Her eyes stayed on mine.

“And right now, I want Alex for myself.”

  • FAKING IT WITH MY EX-BOYFRIEND'S COUSIN THE HOCKEY CAPTAIN   CHAPTER SEVEN

LILIANI walked up the stairs with Fiona behind me. Suddenly, a memory flashed through my mind—it was my twentieth birthday. My adopted parents had invited close friends. Mother had invited some of her colleagues from her house design brand.“Mom, there’s this design I really love for my birthday,” I had said, showing her an inspiration picture I found on Pinterest. “I’d like my room to have the same design.”She had smiled and promised to make it happen. But during the party, I remembered hearing murmurs about my size and the scars on my skin, and I had rushed to my room to find another outfit that covered my entire body. My mother had followed me into my bedroom.“You should be confident about your skin, Lilian,” she had said. “Being plus-sized and having scars doesn’t make you any less worthy.” I had simply smiled at her, tears rolling down my cheeks. Now, the same room my mother had designed for me two years ago was being handed to Fiona. Well, could I blame them? She deserved it

LILIANI tried to pull away from him, but Alex kept me close, his eyes fixed on me. Was he leaning in for a kiss? My heart hammered against my ribs, and even with my eyes closed, I could feel his gaze burning into me.Then he suddenly pulled away, and his smirk made my eyes snap open. “What are you doing?” he asked. “Huh?” I blinked, still confused.“You asked me to stay like this for a moment,” I reminded him, looking down at my lap. His lips curved into an amused smile. “Look outside.”I turned toward the passenger window, but nothing looked unusual. I raised an eyebrow, wondering what game he was playing.“They've left that spot,” he said, nodding toward the front windshield.I turned my head and saw several students gathered outside, laughing with their phones raised. They were taking pictures of us. That was why Alex had pulled me closer.“Alex, that wasn't necessary,” I muttered, sinking lower in my seat.He glanced at me, the corner of his mouth lifting. “Are you tired of faki

LILIAN“What else?” I asked, switching my gaze between Dad and Fiona.Dad’s phone began ringing before he could answer. He glanced at the screen, then he stepped away. “You’ll know after your lectures today,” he said, leaving me with more questions than answers.“Dad, can I drive the Cybertruck?” Fiona called after him. “Everyone at school knows I’m Mr Williams’s daughter, and I want to show it.”Dad glanced back at her and nodded.Fiona squealed and hurried toward the garage.I watched her disappear before grabbing my bag. There was no point standing around waiting for Dad to explain himself when he had already made up his mind.I walked outside and booked a cab.The car I had given Michael last year wasn't actually one I'd bought for him. It was the car Dad had given me, and I'd handed it over after Michael wouldn't stop nagging me about wanting it.I leaned against the cab window as we drove away. The receipt and ownership documents were still in my name because I had never transfe

LILIAN“What?” I exclaimed, but before she could say anything, Mom called from downstairs. “Fiona, come for dinner.”Fiona gave me a smile as she headed for the door. “Where are you going?” she asked, glancing back at me as I got up from the bed.“Where else other than to eat?” I replied, and she laughed.“You don’t pity yourself,” she said before walking out of my bedroom. I followed her, my stomach already rumbling because I had a large appetite and, despite everything, I liked to eat. There had been a time when I practically starved myself trying to achieve a snatched waist just to please Michael. “Lilian,” Mom’s voice pulled me from my thoughts as I entered the dining room. I blinked and looked toward her.“You actually came to eat?” she asked, laughing as she watched me pile food onto my plate. “You are unbelievable,” she added, shaking her head.“Mom,” Fiona called, dropping into her seat. I sat down and started eating, barely noticing the way Fiona’s eyes followed every bite I

LILIANAlex carried me out of the party as if I weighed nothing. Cameras flashed around us. Whispers followed us toward the door.We were about to step outside when Michael's voice stopped me.“Lilian can't exactly do without me.”My fingers tightened around Alex's shirt. I hated that a part of me knew he was right. I was always the one running back to Michael, even when he hurt me, making ridiculous excuses for him.I turned in Alex's arms and looked straight at Michael.“Why are you still obsessed with me?” I smiled. “I just introduced you to my new boyfriend.”The click of a camera sounded behind me.Fiona stared at us, anger flashing across her face.I smiled at her. “I hope you and Michael have a good time.”Michael scoffed. “You really think my cousin Alex would want you? You're so delusional, Lilian.”I ignored him and let Alex carry me outside. As soon as we were away from the crowd, he lowered me to the ground.I turned to face him. “Thank you, and I'm sorry for dragging you
