Chapter 23Anna's POV. His kiss was reassuring. The anger I housed in my chest slowly fickled out like a boulder rolling away from a passage. His lips caressed mine and when he pulled away, I found myself breathing hard. “What was that?” I softly asked, pressing my lips and hiding my hands behind my back. “We both needed it,” he replied, staring at me with those hazel eyes that worked wonders in my guts. I broke contact and stared at the floor, scraping my feet like a toddler excited to play outside. “So why did you come here… to this room?” He asked, taking a quick look around. “I don't know. It sort of just happened and here I am,” I replied, trying to hold back a smile. “I paced around for a while before you came knocking,” “We all do that when we are tense,” he said to me and glanced at my feet. I stopped scraping my feet as though his eyes were now a stern warning. He shook his head, probably wondering why I stopped. “I don't think you do,” I replied, my cheeks flushed.
Chapter 22The Weak Link Gabriel's POV. “Hey, it's me, can you open up?”“I don't want to talk. I want a minute to myself, please go away” Anna mumbled inside the room, her voice minutes away from cracking. “Umm… It's been more than a minute now,” I replied, tucking my hands into my pocket. “You mean since you asked me to leave, of course it's more than a minute,” Anna retorted. I probably deserved her treatment, but I didn't expect her to be so direct with her words. I had previously gone to our shared room to look for her but it was quiet like a white room. Taking a quick search around, I assumed she must have gone to the garden to vent out her frustration about Blair, but she wasn't there either. After a few minutes of walking around, I stumbled into Maya. The subject of Blair's bitchiness, the lucky rogue who was accepted into my pack as a maid…or so the rumours went about her. She carried a tray in her hands and her expression was totally blank; absentminded. She quick
Chapter 21 Gabriel's POV. Two days went by and Anna gave me some space, I could tell she was hurt. Blair's return shattered her heart in two and her announcement of a son shred Anna's halves to pieces. It wasn't the life I wanted her to live for the short time we had but I couldn't do anything but watch reality unveil its dirty twists in life. As expected, Blair became a thorn in my vineyard. She picked issues in little things and fought endlessly to get my attention. If I wasn't rooted and so interested in Anna, she would have gotten me to my knees and forced me to beg for her attention. The silent treatment from Anna got worse. It became unbearable after Blair made an issue of her maids. She wanted Maya to switch over to hers because she felt Anna was closer to Maya. Her request was rooted in jealousy and when Anna wouldn't budge at all, she took a violent spiral, blaming Anna for being jealous. “Of course, I should have known. You have always been jealous of me,” Blair
Chapter 20. Gabriel's POV. Blair was back like she had forgotten we had a disorganized split between us a few years back. She crushed my trust and made my name a ridicule. She had some nerves showing up here again… and with a child? I couldn't believe my eyes. In all this, my attention was fixed on Anna. She was disheartened. The terror she had on her face was palpable, her footsteps even echoed with it. I was pretty sure she had nothing for me but hate at the moment. I knew she wanted to glare at Blair and scrutinize every bit of her, however she opted out to rush out. I tried to race after her but Blair stopped me with a wicked stare, sampling my supposed child right in my face. “Priorities, Papa.” She muttered with a seductive wink. I gnashed my teeth and stared at the child, this time with a closer look. I suddenly became trapped in his s
Chapter 19. Anna's POV. I stood in confusion and bewilderment, my eyes bulging in incredulity. Something about her screamed ‘Chic’ like I once was. As hard as I tried to stop myself from staring, I failed and my mind took a quick spiral. Who was the woman standing before me? Was she the person who made Gabriel uncomfortable, distant and detached? Why was she so pretty? Questions raced through my head, the answers vague and far-fetched. “Greetings, Alpha,” she bowed her head with a dubious smirk. She darted her eyes at me and turned frozen like she was reading me. I couldn't blame her because I gawked at her too like she had diamonds for hair strands. “Blair, what the hell are you doing here? Who let you in?” Gabriel yelled, turning to face her with pure disgust and hate in his eyes. “That's not a very nice way to welcome someone who came from a long…” “I don't care where you slipped out from, get out before I have my guards throw you out,” he ordered. The air instantly becam
Chapter 18Anna's POV. The next two days came with a growing discomfort to it. Gabriel grew distant and reserved. He allowed his obligations as Alpha to drench him cold with sweat, probably to distance himself away from me. Scouting, hunting, meetings and other activities kept him occupied, while the contents of his letter kept me awake for nights, causing me to ponder if something was wrong. He might have heard a report about my pack? Maybe the ‘she’ in question could have been no one else but an angry sister warning him about his union with me?Or maybe I was overthinking it. I strolled down the hallway, resting my hands on the little bulge of my stomach. If anything kept me positive through the whole scenario, it was my baby. I smiled each time I rubbed my stomach and assured myself that my pup was healthy and fed with love. “Good day,” Marcus greeted. I almost didn't hear him but he tapped me on the shoulder and I quickly turned to face him. “Marcus,” I calmly beckoned. “I m
