Nick

“Are you crazy? Rixa…what are you doing? Drop that gun, now!.”

My voice tore out of me louder than I expected, sharp enough to slice through the thick tension hanging in the room. But Rixa didn’t even flinch. Her hands shook, yes, but her grip on the pistol was tight and the wildness in her eyes made everything inside me clench.

“I’m not going to drop the gun,” she fired back, breathing hard. “You think you can just toss me? You brought me here only to bring her here. And now you’re trying to toss me aside like I’m some kind of what? Some stray? Some spare part?” Her voice cracked, but her aim didn’t. “Do you really think I would let that happen? It’s not going to work. It’s either you choose me, or I shoot her.”

Her words hit the room like stones.

And the gun… God, the gun was pointed straight at Lyra.

Lyra froze beside me, her breath catching, her fingers curling into her palms. Her eyes flicked from Rixa to me fear swirling in her eyes.

I stepped in front of her instantly.

  • FIRST NIGHT WITH THE HOCKEY ALPHA    Chapter 109

NickMy throat tightened the moment the words left her mouth.“What… how did you...?” The rest of my sentence died before it even formed. My voice just… collapsed. It was like my tongue forgot how to function because nothing made sense. But Rixa didn’t hesitate. She jumped in immediately, raising her voice like she had been waiting for this exact moment, like she had practiced this dramatic reveal in front of a mirror.“You thought I didn’t know?” she snapped, her chest rising quickly, her eyes wide. “I knew about everything, Nick. Everything. I knew how she was pregnant...”My body moved before my brain caught up.My hands shot straight to her neck. Not choking, just gripping, hard enough to stop her words, hard enough to show her she had crossed a line she wasn’t supposed to even know existed. Her eyes stretched, glossy with shock. My own eyes felt like they were falling out of their sockets.“What?” I croaked. “Pregnant?? How??”My voice cracked so sharply it felt like glass breaki

  • FIRST NIGHT WITH THE HOCKEY ALPHA    CHAPTER 108

NickMy breath stopped. My eyes widened so fast it almost hurt, because standing right in front of me, right here, in the darkness I had been expecting someone else in, was Rixa.Rixa and not Lyra, not the person my stupid heart had been beating like a malfunctioning drum for. What the actual hell?My throat tightened, and before my brain could process anything, my mouth moved on its own.“What are you doing here?”The words came out sharp, almost cracking at the edges. It wasn’t anger alone, it was confusion swallowing me whole.Rixa stepped forward, her heels clicking softly against the concrete floor. Her expression flickered between nervousness and something performative. Her lips parted slightly, like she had rehearsed this moment.“Why…?” she started, lifting a trembling hand toward my shoulder. But instinct kicked in and I moved back quickly, catching her wrist mid-air. My grip was firm, more defensive than aggressive, and I saw it immediately….Her face shifted, her eyes widene

  • FIRST NIGHT WITH THE HOCKEY ALPHA    CHAPTER 107

Nick My legs moved before my brain even caught up. One second I was staring at the tiny folded paper, the next I was shoving it into Ben’s hand like it had personally offended me.“Trash this. Immediately.”My voice came out sharper than I planned, but hell, everything inside me was already racing.Ben blinked, confused, but he took it. That’s why I kept him, he didn’t need to understand to follow an order.I didn’t wait for him. My legs were already carrying me toward the warehouse like I was being dragged by a rope I couldn’t see. My heartbeat was stupidly loud in my ears. But Ben’s voice cut through the hallway.“Alpha! Alpha, wait!”I hissed under my breath and spun around. “What?”Ben jogged toward me, waving the note like a man trying to stop a disaster. “It’s not time yet! It says nine. Alpha… it’s only seven.”I snatched the paper out of his hand and checked again, like he was lying.9 PM.I stared at the numbers, then at the clock on the wall, then back at the numbers again

  • FIRST NIGHT WITH THE HOCKEY ALPHA    CHAPTER 106

Nick“Take her bags to my room. We’ll be staying together from now on.”My voice came out steady, but inside, everything twisted. I didn’t look at Rixa. I didn’t need to. I kept my eyes locked on Lyra, watching every tiny reaction like my life depended on it.She froze mid–step, her fingers tightening around the small bag she carried, her knuckles turning white like she was choking the fabric out of pure rage, her shoulders stiffened, her breath hitched, and she turned just enough that I could see the way her lips pressed together sharply, like she was trying so hard not to say something that would destroy her.Good!Feel something and then come clean to me.She took one more step backward, thinking she could slip away unnoticed. My voice cut through the air, sharp as a blade.“Where do you think you’re going? Did I ask you to leave yet?”The words echoed through the hall. She stopped slowly, like someone pulled her back with invisible chains. She turned around, her head bowed so low

  • FIRST NIGHT WITH THE HOCKEY ALPHA    CHAPTER 105

NickMy body moved before my brain could catch up. One step forward, then another. She mirrored me instantly, one step back, then another, like fear had taken control of her legs. I could practically feel her panic in the air.“Lyra.”Her name left my mouth before I even realized I’d said it.Her head jerked up just a little, barely enough for me to catch the flicker of terror in her eyes, then she quickly looked down again, her shoulders tensed, her fingers curled into her dress, her whole body looked like it wanted to disappear into the floor.“Isn’t that your name?” I stepped closer, voice low, steady, and a little too soft to sound harmless. She took another step back, and I followed. My eyes locked on her like I was afraid she’d vanish again if I blinked.“Aren’t I right?” I asked, leaning in closer until I could feel her breath brush against my jaw.She backed up until her spine hit the wall with a soft thud.I placed one hand on the wall beside her head, then the other on the o
