"Just you wait dearest wife, I am going to make your life and sister's so miserable that you all will regret Crossing paths with Clark Anderson... just you mark my words." He said as he walked away. "But I didn't do anything!!!! Clark!!! it's not my fault... I swear I didn't do anything!!" I kept on screaming till I jolted away. "What sort of dream was that??" I asked myself as I was drenched in sweat. I knew that I felt some kind of way the moment I saw him but having such a dream about him was something I never expected. And the stupid alarm clock just had to wake me up. "Eva!!!! You better do something about that stupid alarm clock of yours!! It is supposed to wake only you up and not everyone else!!!!" My mother screamed from the hallway. If only she knew I was more upset than she was. I got up and went to freshen up and as I was having my bath, I reminisced about the dream I had and suddenly, I started feeling so hot. I quickly got out of the shower and got dressed up. Rachel walked into my room as she sat on my bed with a long face. "What's going on Rachel??? Why is your face sour??" I asked. "I am nervous Eva... I know I've always dreamt of having a perfect wedding with a perfect man but I am honestly so nervous." "Nervous about what exactly???" "About everything... as soon as Clark asked mom to proceed with the wedding arrangements, I just had this weird feeling deep within me." "Don't tell me you are already having cold feet??" I asked as I raised my eyebrow. "It's not cold feet Eva... I just don't know what is going on... I am just nervous and I want everything to go perfectly well." "You don't have to be nervous Rachel... Clark seems to love and adore you and so he would do everything to make sure it goes smoothly." "Will you assist me in doing everything?? Like going to check my wedding gown, ring and all of that with Clark." "With Clark??" I asked as I suddenly got nervous. "Yes... Clark said he would go with me side by side to get whatever we needed and I want you to come with me." She said. "Rachel, you know that I work and won't have the time to do that with you and Clark." "If you know you care about me as your sister, you would suspend work and do this with me." This was not a good idea in the slightest bit. Just one visit for the very first time I already had dreams about him not to talk of going out with him frequently with my sister. "Rachel you have mom... why me??" "Mom is old fashioned Eva." "And I am not??" "You forgot that you are just two years older than me???" "Okay fine... I will go with you." "Thank you so much sister." She said as she hugged me. "When are we starting this wedding shopping??" "Well we can start now if you want... Clark is ready." She said. "Hell no... you just told me about it now and we are starting today???" "Well we want the wedding to be held as soon as possible... so should I inform Clark that we are ready??" I sighed deeply because I knew for a fact that if I declined helping her with her wedding preparations, I was never going to hear the end of it, especially from my mom. "Fine... tell him." I said, rolling my eyes. "You are the best... trust me." She said as she walked out. I looked at myself in the mirror and knew I couldn't just wear casual clothes and so I changed my outfit. After changing, I did a very light makeup so I would look a bit good and who knows maybe I might find my own prince charming. About an hour later, Rachel came to inform me that Clark's Limo was outside. I was excited and anxious at the same time. As soon as we went out, Clark came out of the limo looking dashing as always and he opened the door for us. "Hello ladies." He said smiling. "Hey baby... thanks for picking us up." Rachel said as she kissed him. "Anytime love." "Hello brother in law." I said. "Hello to you too sister in law... you look nice." He said. "Thank you and you too." I said as I blushed a bit. We entered the limo and I must say it was an amazing experience, especially since it was my first time. I was sitting at the end of the car while Clark and my sister sat together. They chatted while I got myself busy playing candy crush on my cell phone. Thirty minutes later, we arrived at a wedding shop. I could see the excitement in my sister as she saw a lot of wedding gowns. We entered and she started Trying different ones. It was exciting at first but got a little bit boring soon after because Rachel couldn't make a choice. As for me, I saw a beautiful bridesmaid dress and I wanted to try it on and so I took it and went into another dressing room. After putting it on, I couldn't reach for the zipper at the back of the dress and I tried as much as I could to zip it but to no avail. Just when I was giving up, a hand zipped the dress up for me slowly and carefully. I assumed it was one of the ladies I met working there who helped me. "Thank you so much." I said. "You are welcome." Wait a minute... I turned almost immediately after I heard the voice. "Clark??!!!"CLARK’S POVThe room felt too small after Rachel’s words.Eva is engaged.I sat there, staring at my desk, my eyes unfocused. The broken pen lay between my fingers, ink slowly staining my skin, but I barely noticed. What made me more angry was the fact that she was extremely excited about the news which she just shared.Rachel was still standing in front of me, watching my face like she was waiting for permission to breathe.“Clark?” she called softly. “Did you hear me?”I looked up at her...as a matter of fact, I glared at her.She was still smiling….that polite, practiced smile she always wore in public. The one that said everything is fine, even when it clearly wasn’t.“You said Eva is engaged,” I replied slowly.“Yes,” she nodded. “Daniel proposed…Isn’t that… good news?”Good news.I stood up abruptly, my chair scraping loudly against the floor as Rachel flinched."Rachel??" "Yes baby." “Why are you still here?” I asked. Her brows furrowed. “I came to talk to you….About the
CLARK’S POVThe first thing I felt was anger. Not the loud kind but the quiet one that sits in your chest and burns slowly.Eva’s face kept replaying in my head as I walked out of the restaurant… the shock, the restraint, the disappointment. She didn’t yell, she didn’t cry as she simply chose herself. That hurt more than the water she poured on me and to be honest, I really didn't know what came over me.Seeing her together with that sorry excuse of a man she called her boyfriend made me extremely jealous and furious.I didn’t know where I was going when I stepped into the night. My phone buzzed several times…Rachel, my assistant, even my driver but I ignored all of it.Immediately Eva walked out of the restaurant, Rachel started her usual tantrums and I was definitely not in the mood for that and so I just got up and walked away. I walked until my legs hurt even when I knew very well I had a car and then I saw a bar.The sign flickered like it had lived a hard life, and something
EVA’S POVThe click of the bathroom lock echoed louder than it should have.I turned slowly, my heart pounding as Clark leaned against the door like he owned the space and maybe, in that moment, he did.He didn’t rush me.That was the dangerous part. His eyes travelled over me slowly, lazily, like he had all the time in the world. The corner of his lips lifted in a faint smile. The least I expected to enter the bathroom with me was Clark.…a female bathroom as a matter of fact was Clark.“What are you doing here Clark?? Get out!!!" "Why should I??”"Because first this is a female bathroom?? Are you a pervert??!!”"Oh trust me if I was a pervert you would know.”“Clark, what are you fucking doing here??!! Get out!!!" “So,” he said calmly, breaking the silence.“That’s the kind of man you choose now?”I folded my arms. “Open the door, Clark.”He chuckled softly. “You didn’t answer my question.”“Because it doesn’t deserve an answer.”He straightened and took a step toward me. “Dani
EVA’S POV"You are out of your damn mind!!”My heart was still racing when Clark said those words.“I am not Eva…I know what I want and I don’t want to marry Rachel anymore.”I stared at him like he had just spoken in another language. As much as I cared more than I should for Clark, there were some certain things that were never meant to be or happen as much as I badly wanted it.“Clark… no,” I said immediately, shaking my head. “You can’t say that.”He stepped closer. “I just did.”I took a step back. “You shouldn’t even be here saying this to me……you are to get married soon..what are you saying???.”“I had to.” he replied. “I’m tired of pretending.”“That doesn’t change anything,” I said firmly. “In fact, it makes everything worse.”He frowned. “Why?”“Because I finally realized how serious this is ” I said. “Your mother invited Rachel…That alone tells me this is bigger than feelings.”“My mother invited her but you came along!! And besides she doesn’t even like Rachel,” he
EVA'S POVI thought I was dreaming. That was the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw him on his knees in front of me.Daniel.My ex-boyfriend.The same man who once promised me forever and then disappeared from my life like I meant nothing. The same man who blocked me on every social media platform, ignored my calls, and pretended I never existed after breaking my heart.I blinked once.Twice.He was still there.“Eva,” he said, his voice breaking. “I still love you.”My heart pounded violently against my chest. For a brief second, I truly believed I had finally lost my mind. Maybe exhaustion had finally caught up with me or maybe loneliness had decided to play tricks on my heart. But when he reached out and held my hand, I knew this was real.I pulled my hand away immediately and suddenly burst into laughter.I was so sure that at that moment, I looked like a maniac laughing like that.“Why are you laughing Eva??? Are you that excited to see me??" “No,” I said sharply. “
CLARK’S POVThe trip ended quietly.Too quietly. No scandals..No headlines and no pictures.Just the kind of silence that follows chaos when everything looks calm on the outside, but something underneath is already cracked. As soon as we landed back home, I felt the weight return to my chest. Work waited, the wedding waited, Life waited. And Rachel followed. She didn’t even ask.I noticed her car behind mine the moment I left the airport. At first, I told myself it was a coincidence but by the third turn, I knew it wasn’t.When I finally pulled into my house and stepped out, she was already getting out of her car, arms folded, lips pressed tight.“What are you doing here, Rachel?” I asked, keeping my voice low.“I followed you,” she said plainly, like it was nothing.“That much is obvious.”She frowned. “Why are you talking to me like that?”“Because you had no business following me to a business trip.” I said sharply. “And you have no business following me home unannounced.”Her
