CLARK’S POV

The room felt too small after Rachel’s words.

Eva is engaged.

I sat there, staring at my desk, my eyes unfocused.

The broken pen lay between my fingers, ink slowly staining my skin, but I barely noticed.

What made me more angry was the fact that she was extremely excited about the news which she just shared.

Rachel was still standing in front of me, watching my face like she was waiting for permission to breathe.

“Clark?” she called softly.

“Did you hear me?”

I looked up at her...as a matter of fact, I glared at her.

She was still smiling….that polite, practiced smile she always wore in public.

The one that said everything is fine, even when it clearly wasn’t.

“You said Eva is engaged,” I replied slowly.

“Yes,” she nodded.

“Daniel proposed…Isn’t that… good news?”

Good news.

I stood up abruptly, my chair scraping loudly against the floor as Rachel flinched.

"Rachel??"

"Yes baby."

“Why are you still here?” I asked.

Her brows furrowed.

“I came to talk to you….About the wedding….Our wedding.”

Something in me snapped.

"The information you just shared a while ago, was it about our wedding??" I asked.

"No but babe, I just wanted to first share the good..."

“Leave,” I said quietly.

“Clark…”

“I said leave.”

Her lips parted, shock written all over her face.

“What is wrong with you?”

“What’s wrong with me?” I laughed bitterly.

“You walk into my office announcing another man’s engagement like it’s a celebration and you expect me to smile and then you switch up and say you came here for our wedding?”

Her eyes filled with confusion.

“I thought you’d be relieved.”

“Get out, Rachel.”

The silence stretched painfully.

“You don’t get to talk to me like this,” she said finally, her voice trembling.

“I just did.”

She grabbed her bag and walked out, slamming the door behind her.

The moment she left, the strength drained out of me.

I sank back into my chair and closed my eyes.

Eva is engaged.

The words echoed again and again, refusing to settle.

Without thinking, I picked up my phone and dialed her number.

No answer.

I tried again.

Straight to voicemail.

By the fifth attempt, my hands were shaking.

On the eighth call, she finally picked up.

“What?” she asked, her voice flat.

“Why?” I demanded.

There was a pause.

“Why what, Clark?”

“Why did you accept his proposal?” My voice cracked despite my effort to control it.

“When you and I both know who you really want.”

She laughed softly…it was not an amused or playful laugh but a detached laugh.

“You shouldn’t flatter yourself,” she said.

“That’s not an answer.”

“It is,” she replied calmly.

“You just don’t like it.”

“You don’t love him,” I said.

“You never did.”

“And you don’t get to decide that,” she snapped.

“You lost that right.”

The way she spoke… it was different. Distant and Guarded.

“Eva,” I said more gently,

“Don't do this to yourself.”

“I’m not,” she replied.

“I’m choosing peace.”

“So you love him?” I asked quietly.

“Yes.”

The word hit me harder than I expected.

“I love Daniel,” she continued.

“That’s why I said yes.”

It was a lie.

I knew it.

But she needed it to be true.

“I see,” I said after a long pause.

She didn’t say anything.

“Congratulations,” I added.

“I wish you happiness.”

“Thank you,” she replied.

The call ended.

I stared at my phone for a long time, waiting for the ache in my chest to fade.

It didn’t.

That night, I couldn’t sit still.

I paced my living room, poured a drink, didn’t touch it, then poured another. Eventually, I called Mark.

He arrived an hour later.

“She’s engaged,” I said immediately.

He exhaled.

“I was waiting for this conversation.”

“I can’t let her go,” I admitted.

“You don’t get to keep someone who’s moved on,” he replied.

“She hasn’t,” I said stubbornly.

“She’s forcing herself.”

“And you’re forcing a disaster,” he shot back.

“She belongs with me.”

“She belongs to herself,” he corrected.

“And right now, she’s choosing Daniel so let go!!”

I shook my head.

“If I walk away, I’ll regret it forever.”

“If you don’t,” he said slowly,

“You’ll lose both women.”

That thought stayed with me long after he left.

The next morning, I made a decision I couldn’t explain…only justify to myself.

I needed to see Daniel.

I drove to his apartment, my chest tight with anticipation and dread.

Maybe I just needed proof…Proof that Eva was lying…proof that this engagement wasn’t real.

I knocked.

Footsteps approached.

The door opened.

A woman stood there half naked, wrapped loosely in a bedsheet, her hair messy, lipstick smudged.

“Yes?” she asked casually.

The air left my lungs.

Behind her, I saw Daniel seated on the couch.

My hands clenched into fists.

And in that moment, everything shifted.

  • FORBIDDEN DESIRES    CHAPTER TWENTY SIX

CLARK’S POVThe first thing I felt was anger. Not the loud kind but the quiet one that sits in your chest and burns slowly.Eva’s face kept replaying in my head as I walked out of the restaurant… the shock, the restraint, the disappointment. She didn’t yell, she didn’t cry as she simply chose herself. That hurt more than the water she poured on me and to be honest, I really didn't know what came over me.Seeing her together with that sorry excuse of a man she called her boyfriend made me extremely jealous and furious.I didn’t know where I was going when I stepped into the night. My phone buzzed several times…Rachel, my assistant, even my driver but I ignored all of it.Immediately Eva walked out of the restaurant, Rachel started her usual tantrums and I was definitely not in the mood for that and so I just got up and walked away. I walked until my legs hurt even when I knew very well I had a car and then I saw a bar.The sign flickered like it had lived a hard life, and something

EVA’S POVThe click of the bathroom lock echoed louder than it should have.I turned slowly, my heart pounding as Clark leaned against the door like he owned the space and maybe, in that moment, he did.He didn’t rush me.That was the dangerous part. His eyes travelled over me slowly, lazily, like he had all the time in the world. The corner of his lips lifted in a faint smile. The least I expected to enter the bathroom with me was Clark.…a female bathroom as a matter of fact was Clark.“What are you doing here Clark?? Get out!!!" "Why should I??”"Because first this is a female bathroom?? Are you a pervert??!!”"Oh trust me if I was a pervert you would know.”“Clark, what are you fucking doing here??!! Get out!!!" “So,” he said calmly, breaking the silence.“That’s the kind of man you choose now?”I folded my arms. “Open the door, Clark.”He chuckled softly. “You didn’t answer my question.”“Because it doesn’t deserve an answer.”He straightened and took a step toward me. “Dani

EVA’S POV"You are out of your damn mind!!”My heart was still racing when Clark said those words.“I am not Eva…I know what I want and I don’t want to marry Rachel anymore.”I stared at him like he had just spoken in another language. As much as I cared more than I should for Clark, there were some certain things that were never meant to be or happen as much as I badly wanted it.“Clark… no,” I said immediately, shaking my head. “You can’t say that.”He stepped closer. “I just did.”I took a step back. “You shouldn’t even be here saying this to me……you are to get married soon..what are you saying???.”“I had to.” he replied. “I’m tired of pretending.”“That doesn’t change anything,” I said firmly. “In fact, it makes everything worse.”He frowned. “Why?”“Because I finally realized how serious this is ” I said. “Your mother invited Rachel…That alone tells me this is bigger than feelings.”“My mother invited her but you came along!! And besides she doesn’t even like Rachel,” he

  • FORBIDDEN DESIRES    CHAPTER TWENTY THREE

EVA'S POVI thought I was dreaming. That was the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw him on his knees in front of me.Daniel.My ex-boyfriend.The same man who once promised me forever and then disappeared from my life like I meant nothing. The same man who blocked me on every social media platform, ignored my calls, and pretended I never existed after breaking my heart.I blinked once.Twice.He was still there.“Eva,” he said, his voice breaking. “I still love you.”My heart pounded violently against my chest. For a brief second, I truly believed I had finally lost my mind. Maybe exhaustion had finally caught up with me or maybe loneliness had decided to play tricks on my heart. But when he reached out and held my hand, I knew this was real.I pulled my hand away immediately and suddenly burst into laughter.I was so sure that at that moment, I looked like a maniac laughing like that.“Why are you laughing Eva??? Are you that excited to see me??" “No,” I said sharply. “

  • FORBIDDEN DESIRES    CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

CLARK’S POVThe trip ended quietly.Too quietly. No scandals..No headlines and no pictures.Just the kind of silence that follows chaos when everything looks calm on the outside, but something underneath is already cracked. As soon as we landed back home, I felt the weight return to my chest. Work waited, the wedding waited, Life waited. And Rachel followed. She didn’t even ask.I noticed her car behind mine the moment I left the airport. At first, I told myself it was a coincidence but by the third turn, I knew it wasn’t.When I finally pulled into my house and stepped out, she was already getting out of her car, arms folded, lips pressed tight.“What are you doing here, Rachel?” I asked, keeping my voice low.“I followed you,” she said plainly, like it was nothing.“That much is obvious.”She frowned. “Why are you talking to me like that?”“Because you had no business following me to a business trip.” I said sharply. “And you have no business following me home unannounced.”Her
