Mag-log inThe next week it was finally time for the Founder’s festival which was apparently lasting a whole week, the school had been seriously decorated and there was a large banner declaring the start of the festival.
They had even gone as far as erecting a statue and when I asked Daphne she said they only erected the statue during the festival and always took it down, apparently it was the founder’s wish.
I was currently reading what was on the statue
Eldric Valdaris
Founder of Bridgeford high
Founded in 1810
Birth- 1415-1912- Death
The man lived over 400 years and then died, I wondered what kind of creature, he had been. I stared at the statue. It was of him when he looked to be in his forties had he been human.
I raised my hand to touch the statue and I immediately pulled back and winced. I looked at my palm and noticed it was red, almost like the statue was too hot to touch.
I stared at the statue again and began to walk away.
I looked at the school building in awe.
“So bridgeford high was 200 years old. That’s crazy.
I felt like someone was looking at me and when I turned, I noticed the headmistress staring at me from her window.
When she noticed I had seen her, she gave a small smile and then walked away.
I stared at the empty window where she just left for a few more seconds before leaving.
A loud horn was blown and a voice blared through the megaphone, “all students please gather at the assembly ground!”
Students begin to rush in that direction and I look at the founder one more time before following suit.
“All house masters, please come forward” Miss Forgate said and once again the house masters move forward.
I noticed my roomate had died her dyed red, I stared in unbelief as she had briefly mentioned it but I had never expected her to go through with it.
“All students may disperse into their various houses” Once again there was large amount of movement as the students began to scatter.
I reached where my house master stood and he waved his finger in a come hither motion signifying for me to come to him, I acted like I didn’t see him and didn’t bother moving closer.
“The games to be played have been selected, and first we’ll be starting with a scavenger hunt, hints have been placed all around the school to aid you and they’re all leading to a treasure” Miss forgate announced.
“Each house master would be given their first clue, don’t worry it’s all the same clue. The house that discovers the treasure first wins”
“How does the treasure look like, is it an actual treasure?” Jenna asked.
“I also do not know, but you’ll know it when you see it” Miss Forgate gives a small smile.
“You guys have a total of 30 minutes to find the treasure, every house member is to participate, there are some clues even in the forest behind the school” She declared.
“Forgate” The headmistress called in a warning tone
“Oops! I’ve said too much, on that note you may begin!” She shouted and then blew a whistle.
“What’s the first clue?” Jenna asked and Cillian held up a card, it was that of a red bird.
“A Phoenix?” one member asked confused.
“But there aren’t many here, are we supposed to catch them?” Another member asked.
Cillian stared at the card as if he wanted to say something.
“The first Phoenix of the school” Raphael said beating Cillian to it.
“Yes, the very first one” Cillian narrowed his eyes at him before walking forward.
“Walk behind me my subjects!” He made a sarcastic laugh and started walking forward, I purposefully slowed down my footsteps so he wouldn’t call for me again.
“Move weakling” Someone said bumping into me and I almost tripped over, I looked up to find Jenna clinging to Raphael’s arm giving me a wicked smile, I turned to look at Raphael who only gave me a once over and walked ahead with Jenna.
I scoffed at the both of them and continued walking.
Soon we all came to stop in front of the Founders statue. “The first Phoenix” Cillian declared and I looked at the fonder once more, He was a Phoenix?
That was crazy, I had read a bit about Phoenixes in mythology but even in the world of monsters, I did not expect them to exist, much more in human form.
Cillian raised the card to the statue and it picked up flames and began to burn, but Cillian held unto it even when it burned towards the brim.
“Cillian your hand!” I called rushing to him and smacking the paper out of his hand and it fell to the floor.
“Did you want to get burned?” I asked turning to face him in disbelief, while he just blinked at me.
“Great work Avery, you didn’t let the card burn completely and now we don’t have the next clue!” Jenna shouted making me freeze.
I looked down at the almost completely burnt card and my teammates started grumbling.
“It’s not like Cillian didn’t know what he was doing that you smacked the card out of his hands, acting like some saviour” One girl scoffed.
“Who do you think you are” Another asked.
I clenched my hands at my side and lowered my head. “I’m so…” suddenly a hand came and raised my chin up and Cillian’s red eyes stared at my brown ones almost like he was searching for something.
“You don’t have to apologise” He gave me a small smile and picked the card from the ground, Raising it to the statue, and it started burning again and this time I did nothing, once it was close to his fingertips, he threw it up in the air and it burnt completely, the ashes landed on the ground and gathered together drawing something.
“A door” one member said.
“That’s a very random clue” Another member said. The ashes moved again and wrote the number 2 this time.
“Two doors?”
“The second door?”
I stared confused trying to gauge what it means.
“I have a suggestion” Raphael spoke up.
“Go on” Cillian said.
“How about we split up” Raphael announced and Cillian’s eyes narrowed.
“Wouldn’t that make things harder” Someone asked.“On the contrary, it would make things faster” Another said.“We’ll split up in twos” Raphael said with a dull tone.“Perfect” Jenna smiled clinging even closer to him.“If you were smart enough, you would realise there are specifically different creatures on our team and of course that would have to do with the clues, so I refuse your suggestion, happy?” Cillian asked and this time Raphael narrowed his own eyes.“Let’s try to decipher what this means” Cillian said turning to the rest of us.“What if the two means second floor?” I asked and heard a snot and then full blown laughter.“How does that even make sense” Jenna laughed.“Go on” Cillian said ignoring her.“I mean, the second floor is usually isolated and all” I shrugged.“Let’s check it then” Cillian said and the house members grumbled but still moved forward.“Look at you using your little brain sweet apple” Cillian praised patting my head and I glared at him making him laugh.

The next morning as I brushed my hair to go for assembly, my room door slammed open causing me to drop my brush and squeal a bit.“What the hell!” I shouted thinking it was Phoebe who came back drunk again but when I turned around my eyes widened.“Daphne!” I screamed and jumped on her, she caught me in a hug but almost immediately dropped me down.“You’ve caused me some serious trouble” She said with a small smile and her voice was badly cracked.“I’m sorry, what did they do to you?” I asked while examining her, in just a few days she had slimmed down, she had bruises and she reeked but I wasn’t telling her that yet.“Let’s just say, I wouldn’t be able to sing for a while” Hearing her say that made me frown deeper and I genuinely began to wonder what they had done to her.“Go for assembly, I need to have a deep bath, I’ll see you later” She said and I nodded, I squeezed her in a hug again and left the room.I quickly head to the assembly ground, where everyone is lining up. When I come to, I’m in my room on the bed. I looked around the room and discovered that I was alone. My mind travelled back to what happened as I tried to recall how I ended up here.I remembered the solitary confinement and then the headmistress’ warning, my eyes widened again as I realised she had threatened to kill me much earlier than she planned, had I continued provoking her.Ember, I was about to enter the dining room after her when my vision became blurry, someone caught me before I fell, someone…Raphael?I remembered his face being the last thing I saw but the image was blurry, or was that a dream, how did I end up here then or did he carry me here?I was asking these questions to no one in particular. I had a slight headache and as I adjusted my position, my stomach began to grumble. I was still yet to have dinner, I had a feeling it was very late. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and stood up from the bed.Daphne was in solitary confinement and I never knew where Ph
“Avery, you’re safe okay” she assured, “Here” She handed me her gold key.“You can hold onto it, until we return safely," she said and I nodded and without thinking, I took a deep breath and jumped inside. Not long after Ember jumped inside too, closing the door and we were met with total darkness.“Hold on” I heard Ember moving but couldn’t see her, suddenly the place was illuminated as fire spewed from her mouth until a torch lit where we were. The place looked like some medieval dungeon. We walked down and saw different metal doors where we couldn’t even see who was inside.Ember touched each door closing her eyes and stopped at one.She opened her eyes and turned to me, “She’s here”I made my way to the door where Ember was and slotted in her golden key and sure enough the key opened the door.Ember held the torch at the door and I entered, I found a figure crouched down on the dirty ground and noticing the lights and footsteps, she looked up.A frown marred my face as I took in t
Lucian sat at the front seat and dropped his back on the desk, not even bothering to greet anyone. Didn't he have friends or his friends weren’t the type to be in detention.I hear footsteps coming from the back and Marie passes me and heads towards the front seat, particularly towards Lucian. She stops in front of him and plops down on his desk, pushing his bag aside, her uniform had ridden up and her fair thighs were showing.I couldn’t really make out what she was saying but he was responding and there seemed to be a whole conversation. She eventually nodded and left, walking back to her seat but she wasn’t smiling. The rest of the detention went on quite boringly and the teacher never came back, making me wonder who’s homeroom teacher was.I packed my things and my book of doodles which was all I was doing for the past three hours into my bag. Immediately after the time elapsed, Lucian walked out of the class and people began to leave one by one.I walked out of the class and some
It's darker now and I become more conscious of my environment, what if those girls came out of the shadows again?Thankfully we safely made it to the end of the halls and unto the stairs.“Thank you sir” I said with a curt nod and he stared at me, then turned to look at the top stairs before walking
I successfully made it to the second floor, the sun had already gone down and the evening breeze was cool. I stared down the hallway, a feeling of ptsd hitting me. But I knew I had to move, I already had classes here this morning, how hard could it be?I heard the clicking of a door and I froze, th
“Take a seat anywhere, Avery” he said gesturing with his hands and I moved glad to be away from the spotlight and try to decide on the three empty seats. I spot one towards the window and hurry towards it. I recognised the face of the person sitting behind the seat, it was the guy with stormy eyes
After dinner, my roommates and I began heading to the other block, along with some students, while others stayed behind. As we climbed down to the second flight of stairs, I couldn't help but stare into the hallway, all the lights were back on.“Walk fast” Daphne called in front of me and I doubled
