LOGIN“Avery, you’re safe okay” she assured, “Here” She handed me her gold key.
“You can hold onto it, until we return safely," she said and I nodded and without thinking, I took a deep breath and jumped inside. Not long after Ember jumped inside too, closing the door and we were met with total darkness.
“Hold on” I heard Ember moving but couldn’t see her, suddenly the place was illuminated as fire spewed from her mouth until a torch lit where we were.
The place looked like some medieval dungeon.
We walked down and saw different metal doors where we couldn’t even see who was inside.
Ember touched each door closing her eyes and stopped at one.
She opened her eyes and turned to me, “She’s here”
I made my way to the door where Ember was and slotted in her golden key and sure enough the key opened the door.
Ember held the torch at the door and I entered, I found a figure crouched down on the dirty ground and noticing the lights and footsteps, she looked up.
A frown marred my face as I took in the sight.
“A...Avery?” Daphne whispered, squinting her eyes.
“Daphne” I rushed to her side and pulled her into a hug and she winced, making me pull backwards.
“I’m sorry” I said and noticed her eyes were golden, no longer ice blue and her slits were dilated.
She had suddenly slimmed down and had bags under her eyes.
“What did they do to you?” I asked about taking in her form and then noticed the bruises on her body which made tears reach my eyes.
“Just a little starvation” her voice came out cracked, also her lips were badly chapped.
“I’m sorry Daphne, this is my fault” I sighed, holding back the tears.
“What are you doing here, if the headmistress catches you this time, she wouldn’t hesitate to kill you” Daphne warned, making me freeze.
“How are you even here?” She asked, finally raising her eyes to meet the eyes of Ember behind me.
“You!” Daphne screamed and suddenly stood up and rushed then pounced on Ember taking her down to the ground making her drop the torch.
“Daphne!” I shouted, while Daphne’s cracked voice screamed as she choked Ember hard and suddenly Daphne’s muscles began to grow bigger and Ember began to turn red but nevertheless, she still smiled.
“Daphne please!” I begged but her eyes were fixated on Ember and she looked like she wanted to kill her. The veins on Ember’s head became obvious and I screamed trying to pull Daphne off her.
Suddenly with such majestic ease, Ember bent Daphne’s hand who screamed, forced the siren off her and pinned her to the ground, bending her hand behind her causing her to cry out.
“That’s enough punishment don’t you think?” Ember asked in between coughs as she tried to catch her breath.
“No, never!” Daphne screamed. “Even death is not enough for you” She seethed and Ember’s creepy smile reduced.
“I’m truly sorry for what happened” Ember said in a low tone.
“Get off me!” Daphne screamed and her eyes held tears.
“I’m sorry,” Ember repeated.
“Avery we have to go” She turned to me.
“You fool, what are you doing with the most dangerous person in this school?” Daphne shouted at me, before I could reply, Ember hit her neck causing Daphne to fall unconscious.
“She’ll be fine, we need to leave” Ember told me and I nodded.
She rested Daphne against the wall and we locked the door and quickly left the place.
“We still have thirty minutes before dinner is over, we have to hurry” Ember said and I nodded following her.
For some reason I felt like someone was watching me but I looked round and found nothing, so I ignored it and followed Ember.
We were close to the dining hall when we saw the headmistress standing in front of the door. She looked at her wrist watch then up at us with a smile and I felt blood drain from my body.
“Very interesting combination I must say, the princess and well” she looked me up and down smile intact “a dhampir,”
“Where are you people coming from, you’ve almost missed dinner?” She asked.
“But we’re here now headmistress and you’re obstructing us” Ember said rather rudely and the headmistress turned her eyes to Ember without moving her head.
“Of course my princess, please go in” The headmistress moved away from the door for us to enter and Ember entered, just as I was about to follow suit, she grabbed my hand.
“It’s only a matter of time Avery, don’t make me push the clock” Then she let go of me and walked away. I stopped midway of entering the dining room and began hyperventilating. I grabbed my chest as I felt pain.
I looked around, my head felt dizzy, I see Ember smiling at me as she makes her order,
I take a step forward but my knees suddenly grow weak and I’m about to fall when a hand reaches out to catch me.
“Thank you” I mutter trying to calm my breathing, and my dizzy eyes look up to see who caught me
“R...Raphael” I muttered and he suddenly scooped me up in his arms
The next morning as I brushed my hair to go for assembly, my room door slammed open causing me to drop my brush and squeal a bit.“What the hell!” I shouted thinking it was Phoebe who came back drunk again but when I turned around my eyes widened.“Daphne!” I screamed and jumped on her, she caught me in a hug but almost immediately dropped me down.“You’ve caused me some serious trouble” She said with a small smile and her voice was badly cracked.“I’m sorry, what did they do to you?” I asked while examining her, in just a few days she had slimmed down, she had bruises and she reeked but I wasn’t telling her that yet.“Let’s just say, I wouldn’t be able to sing for a while” Hearing her say that made me frown deeper and I genuinely began to wonder what they had done to her.“Go for assembly, I need to have a deep bath, I’ll see you later” She said and I nodded, I squeezed her in a hug again and left the room.I quickly head to the assembly ground, where everyone is lining up. When I come to, I’m in my room on the bed. I looked around the room and discovered that I was alone. My mind travelled back to what happened as I tried to recall how I ended up here.I remembered the solitary confinement and then the headmistress’ warning, my eyes widened again as I realised she had threatened to kill me much earlier than she planned, had I continued provoking her.Ember, I was about to enter the dining room after her when my vision became blurry, someone caught me before I fell, someone…Raphael?I remembered his face being the last thing I saw but the image was blurry, or was that a dream, how did I end up here then or did he carry me here?I was asking these questions to no one in particular. I had a slight headache and as I adjusted my position, my stomach began to grumble. I was still yet to have dinner, I had a feeling it was very late. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and stood up from the bed.Daphne was in solitary confinement and I never knew where Ph

Lucian sat at the front seat and dropped his back on the desk, not even bothering to greet anyone. Didn't he have friends or his friends weren’t the type to be in detention.I hear footsteps coming from the back and Marie passes me and heads towards the front seat, particularly towards Lucian. She stops in front of him and plops down on his desk, pushing his bag aside, her uniform had ridden up and her fair thighs were showing.I couldn’t really make out what she was saying but he was responding and there seemed to be a whole conversation. She eventually nodded and left, walking back to her seat but she wasn’t smiling. The rest of the detention went on quite boringly and the teacher never came back, making me wonder who’s homeroom teacher was.I packed my things and my book of doodles which was all I was doing for the past three hours into my bag. Immediately after the time elapsed, Lucian walked out of the class and people began to leave one by one.I walked out of the class and some
I knew it, it was everything I expected and worse.I’d literally be anywhere else.It was loud and utterly disturbing.I heard a couple of laughs and then different forms of noises. I looked around to find an unbothered teacher picking a booger from his nose. I couldn't help but notice the stares that followed me. I walked towards an empty seat and then sat down.“Hey that seat is taken, find somewhere else” A voice said from behind me and I turned around to find a girl, giving me the stink eye. And her said eyes had slits in them. I would have argued but I didn’t like the look in her eye.“Hey Avery!” I heard someone shout my name and looked to find Jenna flashing me a sly smile“Jenna” I acknowledged and walked towards her, she pulled out a red lollipop from her lips and nodded towards the empty seat beside her.I sighed and sat down on the seat, immediately Jenna pulled her chair towards me, making a loud squeaking sound that made the unbothered teacher look up at her.“What has th
I made it to class and I’m late for the first time. Taking in a deep breath I push the door open and enter the class.“And that’s the reason why….” Mr Alistair stops as he notices my presence, he gives me a once over and returns to face the class. For some reason I felt hurt, there’s no usual longing in his eyes and he looked barely bothered.I kept my head low and began to walk to my seat, apparently Raphael had chosen the seat behind me as his new seat. His eyes met mine and I immediately looked away, I was scared of all of them. Just as I am about to sit down…“Miss Martins, you are late,” Mr Alistair commented.I looked up to meet his amber eyes that stared at me with an unbothered look. I swallowed the lump in my throat, was it because of our last interaction, the way I reacted and acted?“I am sorry sir, I overslept and…”“I do not wish to hear your excuses, it mustn’t repeat itself” He said to me and I simply nodded.I finally sit in my chair and breathe out.“And so the hold h
“What,"What just happened?” I asked, my voice trembling and Phoebe scoffed.“She's a dragon of course” she rolled her eyes and my lips moved but no words came out. Daphne narrowed her eyes at me and suddenly grabbed my hands, pulling me towards the door and I reluctantly went with her while still
When I came out from the stall, the bathroom was empty, they had probably gone for dinner.I made my way to the halls, it was empty as well and I rushed over to my room, pushing the door open and scanning round. My roommates weren't in, it looked like everyone had gone for dinner, there was a small
I looked down at the paper in my hand, the rooms were on the third story.Once again I made my way through the hall and in front of my arch nemesis, the stairs. I looked around searching for an elevator but there were only stairs. I stared down in disbelief. It's the 21st century, why were there no
James' rickety old car struggled on the road, making a crunching sound as it climbed the stones and granite, we were almost there.I raised my phone, sticking it outside the window as the afternoon sun hit my caramel skin and took a selfie. I pulled my phone back inside and zoomed in on the picture
