LOGINI successfully made it to the second floor, the sun had already gone down and the evening breeze was cool. I stared down the hallway, a feeling of ptsd hitting me. But I knew I had to move, I already had classes here this morning, how hard could it be?
I heard the clicking of a door and I froze, the hair on my skin standing.
I see Mr Alister walk through the door of our classroom and he's heading straight for me. A few students are passing by, but most have retired to their rooms.
My eyes meet his and he holds them, not bothering to look away. The way he stared at me, there was such a longing, if I didn't know any better, I would say it's desire.
I had packed my black curly hair in a high pony tail and had Phoebe do light make up, which just consisted of powder and lip gloss, she didn't let me leave otherwise.
“G…good evening sir” I greeted.
“C…..Avery” he sighed and took a whiff of the air before his eyes landed back on me, the rims of his pupils glowing amber.
“I wondered how long you were going to stand here without moving?” His lips raised a little and he climbed the first step, standing in front of me. I'm standing on the third step and our heads are at the same level, he was too tall, probably 6 '7.
“I was planning to move…..” I began.
”How did you know I was here?” I asked my eye brows furrowed, I was still at the stairs and had not entered the hall, or moved in the direction of the class.
His amber eyes hold my gaze, that same look and I have the inclination to step back. He keeps staring at me saying nthing so I clear my throat “Mr Alister?” I asked, I was beginning to get scared, I had no idea what monster he was.
“I could smell you” he admitted, making me freeze.
“What?” I asked confused.
“Your scent, I noticed your scent, so I came out and found you at the stairs” he replied watching me and his eyebrow raised.
“O…of course” I replied sheepishly, if I acted shocked it would give away that I wasn't a monster.
“Shall we?” He asked, stretching out his large hand. This is your teacher, that's all. I reminded myself and received his hand, he tugged me a little and I stepped down the two steps.
His large hand wrapped around mine in a solid grip as he led me into the hall and towards the classroom. As we walked I felt like I was being watched again.
His arms felt warm, but it didn’t diminish the awkwardness of him holding my hand but I dismissed the thought.
Once we were inside the class, he let go of my hand.
There were two seats already set at his desk and a bunch of textbooks.
“Sit” he called and I swallowed, pulling the chair back and sat down. He moved to the empty seat and did the same.
I clenched my shoulder bag, pulling out a book and placing it on the desk.
Mr Alister went straight to business, teaching me and asking me questions every now and then.
“Do you understand?” He asked after solving the maths question and I nodded.
“Words Avery” he cautioned and I parted my lips “Yes sir” I replied.
He began writing out another question before shoving it to me, wanting me to solve it. I bit the cover of my pen studying the question but I could feel Mr Alister's eyes on me, studying me. His gaze made me nervous making it harder for me to concentrate.
“You're yet to start” he stated and I briefly looked up at him, now he's giving me a hurt expression, like I did something to him or is that just longing.
I quickly solve the question and hand the book back to him.
“Excellent,” he replied, smiling a little.
“It's almost dinner time” I stated and he looked up at me with an amused expression.
“You want to run away from me that bad, like you did all those years ago” he whispered the last sentence but I caught onto the words.
“What?”
“You're dismissed, you may leave Avery” he replied and I bit my lips, thinking of how to say what I wanted to say next.
“Mr Alister….” I started but I noticed his eyes had drifted from my eyes to my lips. Should a professor look at his student this way?
“I…I can't go down the halls alone, please escort me?” I pleaded and he raised his brows again, an action I noticed he loved to do.
“I should come with you?” He asked watching me.
“Please” his eyes narrowed and he watched me with a hooded gaze before standing.
“Let's go” he simply says and I pack my things and scurry after him. He holds the door for me and lets me pass first before coming behind me.
I feel his hand on my back as he leads me down the halls.
The next morning as I brushed my hair to go for assembly, my room door slammed open causing me to drop my brush and squeal a bit.“What the hell!” I shouted thinking it was Phoebe who came back drunk again but when I turned around my eyes widened.“Daphne!” I screamed and jumped on her, she caught me in a hug but almost immediately dropped me down.“You’ve caused me some serious trouble” She said with a small smile and her voice was badly cracked.“I’m sorry, what did they do to you?” I asked while examining her, in just a few days she had slimmed down, she had bruises and she reeked but I wasn’t telling her that yet.“Let’s just say, I wouldn’t be able to sing for a while” Hearing her say that made me frown deeper and I genuinely began to wonder what they had done to her.“Go for assembly, I need to have a deep bath, I’ll see you later” She said and I nodded, I squeezed her in a hug again and left the room.I quickly head to the assembly ground, where everyone is lining up. My mind g
When I come to, I’m in my room on the bed. I looked around the room and discovered that I was alone. My mind travelled back to what happened as I tried to recall how I ended up here.I remembered the solitary confinement and then the headmistress’ warning, my eyes widened again as I realised she had threatened to kill me much earlier than she planned, had I continued provoking her.Ember, I was about to enter the dining room after her when my vision became blurry, someone caught me before I fell, someone…Raphael?I remembered his face being the last thing I saw but the image was blurry, or was that a dream, how did I end up here then or did he carry me here?I was asking these questions to no one in particular. I had a slight headache and as I adjusted my position, my stomach began to grumble. I was still yet to have dinner, I had a feeling it was very late. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and stood up from the bed.Daphne was in solitary confinement and I never knew where Ph
“Avery, you’re safe okay” she assured, “Here” She handed me her gold key.“You can hold onto it, until we return safely," she said and I nodded and without thinking, I took a deep breath and jumped inside. Not long after Ember jumped inside too, closing the door and we were met with total darkness.“Hold on” I heard Ember moving but couldn’t see her, suddenly the place was illuminated as fire spewed from her mouth until a torch lit where we were. The place looked like some medieval dungeon. We walked down and saw different metal doors where we couldn’t even see who was inside.Ember touched each door closing her eyes and stopped at one.She opened her eyes and turned to me, “She’s here”I made my way to the door where Ember was and slotted in her golden key and sure enough the key opened the door.Ember held the torch at the door and I entered, I found a figure crouched down on the dirty ground and noticing the lights and footsteps, she looked up.A frown marred my face as I took in t
Lucian sat at the front seat and dropped his back on the desk, not even bothering to greet anyone. Didn't he have friends or his friends weren’t the type to be in detention.I hear footsteps coming from the back and Marie passes me and heads towards the front seat, particularly towards Lucian. She stops in front of him and plops down on his desk, pushing his bag aside, her uniform had ridden up and her fair thighs were showing.I couldn’t really make out what she was saying but he was responding and there seemed to be a whole conversation. She eventually nodded and left, walking back to her seat but she wasn’t smiling. The rest of the detention went on quite boringly and the teacher never came back, making me wonder who’s homeroom teacher was.I packed my things and my book of doodles which was all I was doing for the past three hours into my bag. Immediately after the time elapsed, Lucian walked out of the class and people began to leave one by one.I walked out of the class and some
I knew it, it was everything I expected and worse.I’d literally be anywhere else.It was loud and utterly disturbing.I heard a couple of laughs and then different forms of noises. I looked around to find an unbothered teacher picking a booger from his nose. I couldn't help but notice the stares that followed me. I walked towards an empty seat and then sat down.“Hey that seat is taken, find somewhere else” A voice said from behind me and I turned around to find a girl, giving me the stink eye. And her said eyes had slits in them. I would have argued but I didn’t like the look in her eye.“Hey Avery!” I heard someone shout my name and looked to find Jenna flashing me a sly smile“Jenna” I acknowledged and walked towards her, she pulled out a red lollipop from her lips and nodded towards the empty seat beside her.I sighed and sat down on the seat, immediately Jenna pulled her chair towards me, making a loud squeaking sound that made the unbothered teacher look up at her.“What has th
I made it to class and I’m late for the first time. Taking in a deep breath I push the door open and enter the class.“And that’s the reason why….” Mr Alistair stops as he notices my presence, he gives me a once over and returns to face the class. For some reason I felt hurt, there’s no usual longing in his eyes and he looked barely bothered.I kept my head low and began to walk to my seat, apparently Raphael had chosen the seat behind me as his new seat. His eyes met mine and I immediately looked away, I was scared of all of them. Just as I am about to sit down…“Miss Martins, you are late,” Mr Alistair commented.I looked up to meet his amber eyes that stared at me with an unbothered look. I swallowed the lump in my throat, was it because of our last interaction, the way I reacted and acted?“I am sorry sir, I overslept and…”“I do not wish to hear your excuses, it mustn’t repeat itself” He said to me and I simply nodded.I finally sit in my chair and breathe out.“And so the hold h
When I came out from the stall, the bathroom was empty, they had probably gone for dinner.I made my way to the halls, it was empty as well and I rushed over to my room, pushing the door open and scanning round. My roommates weren't in, it looked like everyone had gone for dinner, there was a small
I looked down at the paper in my hand, the rooms were on the third story.Once again I made my way through the hall and in front of my arch nemesis, the stairs. I looked around searching for an elevator but there were only stairs. I stared down in disbelief. It's the 21st century, why were there no
James' rickety old car struggled on the road, making a crunching sound as it climbed the stones and granite, we were almost there.I raised my phone, sticking it outside the window as the afternoon sun hit my caramel skin and took a selfie. I pulled my phone back inside and zoomed in on the picture
Seventeenth wish I could turn the clock around and re-do it again, I turned to my bedstand and my lips curled into a smile, a sad one. A picture of my mum was on the stand, she was so pretty, I miss her everyday.I sighed and pulled myself out of the covers, I turned to the mirror and sighed, I loo
