LOGIN"My name is Margaret." The woman finally spoke, still keeping her gaze intently on me.
"Margaret?" I stared skeptically at them. "Where am I?" "Right now you're in a hospital in Vine City." The woman walked closer this time, taking her steps slowly as if she counted them to make sure she stepped on the right spot. "Vine City? How... did I get to Vine city?" I questioned and paused, giving a thought to my questions then laughed bitterly in my mind. Of course, I was sold and didn't have to be told I would be taken far away. But at least, I'd hoped it would be a place I could be able to trace my way back home. However, I didn't even know this City that is called Vine. And now, in a hospital? "I saved you from your sister who sold you for sex slavery two months ago." She explained. Two months? Has it been that long already? How come I slept that long to wake up now? "I'd like to apologize for the little changes you will see on your face and body." She spoke in a calm tone. My face? It reoccurred to me. "What have you done to me?" My eyes shone inquisitively. I knew my feeling was right about myself. About being totally different from who I was. "It's not something that will take your life my dear, trust me. Doing that is the only way we can help each other. The two of us are going to work together." She said. "Work together. What do you mean?" I glared at her, feeling my blood run hot. "What do I mean?" She quizzed, "It's a pity your own sister sold you for sex slavery. But as fate would have it, I bought you before anyone else could. So right now, you should be very thankful to me for saving you from your sister's treachery. Imagine what would have become of you if one stupid man bought you before me." I turned to look at the man beside me and tried to recognize his face, but it wasn't the man who'd bought me from the bar. She was lying. "He's not the man who bought me." I declared disapprovingly. "Yes, I know. I paid the one who did. So consider my help as something you can never get easily in your entire life. Don't worry about how you're going to repay me. It's going to be quite simple." My gaze flickered, unable to put a meaning to what this woman was bluffing about. Unable to understand this strange body I wore. Margaret continued, "Two months ago, my daughter-in-law was involved in an accident almost at the same time I bought you. Until now, she has been in a coma and I'm sure she won't make it alive. The doctor has already declared her time of death. Now that you have my almost dying daughter-in-law's face, once she dies, you will replace her immediately. You're going to act as my son's wife. And don't worry, my son is one of the top billionaires in Vine City. You know what that means? You will be walking side by side with him as his wife. You're going to have your dream life where no one will sell you for slavery." A dry chuckle left my lips, looking at her like someone speaking a strange language. My brows knotted, eyes searching her face as though the words hadn't settled yet. Then I let out another bitter laugh, having pity on myself. "I don't believe you. You'll are a bunch of liars. You stole my dignity. You stole my body, you stole me!" Tears burned down my cheeks. There was no point in believing them. I could not accept a reality where I woke up surrounded by people who had taken advantage of me. "Where is Maya? I'm sure she's the one paying you to do this. Where is she?!" "Your sister Maya? Oh..." Margaret creased her brows as if suddenly realizing someone like that existed. "Other than the simple transaction of the sale and buy which was not performed directly by me, I have no business with your sister and don't care where she is. But I believe she's rotting in hell by now." "What do you mean?" Panic clawed up my throat. Margaret paused, then said, "I'm a straightforward woman who hates beating around the bush. To tell you the truth, I'd ordered someone to get rid of her. So you shouldn't worry about seeing her ever again. She's already paying for what she has done to you. Wicked ones like your sister deserve to go to hell." Chill threaded through my spine. They killed Maya? If they could kill my sister, nothing was safe. What they might do to me can be far worse than I could dare imagine— worse than slavery. They'd already changed my body. And I'm sure, my face too. Only if I can find a mirror and see exactly what I look like. What if they went further? What if they stripped away everything human, turning me into something monstrous? I've heard of people being turned into hybrids with the help of doctors. "No, take me back to where I come from! I don't want any of this. I don't want it here!" "Back to meet the ghost of your sister or the mother who's now blaming you for her daughter's death?" Margaret snorted. "Even though you'd not consented to this before I did what I had to do, I was already running out of time to have waited for you to agree with it at first. If the public learned that my daughter-in-law had an accident and was about to die, then that would be the end of it for my son. Before that happens, someone must replace his dying wife. Someone must replace her before things get to the public." "No! I don't want any of this!" I began kicking and smashing through the sheets. Begging to be released—afraid of dying, afraid of the people around me. "Madam Margaret, what are you going to do now?" For the first time, the doctor spoke. Margaret exhaled. "I'd believed that waking to know that someone had saved her life would make her feel grateful and agree to whatever I ask her to do. I thought she would agree to play the role without hitches." Margaret looked at me the way one looks at bad news. "I wanted to take this the good way, Kane. But now, the only option we have left is to proceed with another plan. I've gone too far to let go. You know how hard it was for me to find someone whom I believe no one will come asking for in the future." Margaret answered. "What are you talking about? What are you going to do to me?" I trembled, searching for an escape, but the woman had already given the doctor a go-ahead nod and the next thing I felt was something piercing into my skin until darkness welcomed me.All the way to the third chapter and believe me this is the beginning of the mystery of our dear Odessa. Don't miss out by not adding the book to library. Kisses😘
~Odessa~"All of this happened because I never truly recalled anything about us. Please believe me, if I had been told about this earlier, I wouldn't have acted that way towards you when I saw you in that beast form. But no one had told me about who you truly are.""You mean, even Mother never explained this to you? You truly know nothing about me?" He asked, and I noticed his disappointment through the way his brows contorted."No, Adrian, no one did. I'm so sorry for the way I had acted towards you. I'm sorry for thinking you were truly going to take my life at that moment," He leaned away slightly, his back slowly facing me as I could see his fist clench. I knew without being told that he was clearly disappointed. My loss of memory had always hurt him more.Any time I spoke about it, any time he was reminded that I couldn't remember our past anymore, it made him more agitated and I didn't want him that way anymore."Adrian, I know it must have hurt so much for me not to remember a
~Odessa~"Juliana," I heard him mutter as my fingers clung tightly to the duvet wrapping around me, my body sinking onto the bed, deeper as he stared at me. Everything was going on fine around us, until all of a sudden, he startled me with the shattering of the glass of water in his hand, his voice dropping into a low guttural laughter which had ended with him turning to leave. At that point, a sudden shriek had escaped me before I could even hold back the unexpected rise of fright at the flip of his actions.A moment, he was there tending to my burn, and the next... something had instantly changed about him.And in that moment, I had seen that disappointment return in his eyes, the one he holds at me as if ashamed of what I am to him.And now, his eyes bore into mine that way, and I couldn't help the chills crawling back to me again, my mind reeling at the way he had trailed his eyes over my body a while ago. What was he thinking now?Is he about to accuse me of doing this to myself
~Adrian~"Water... I think I need water," The sound of her voice made something swell in my chest, raw panic seizing me as I watched her looking that way. Hurt, shaken, her skin turned red in the places the water had burned her.The moment I turned to the dispenser, I dragged a hand over my face in frustration. Juliana had always been very careful with things like this. This is so unlike her to use the shower without paying attention to the temperature. She hardly uses the shower itself as she prefers dipping herself in bathtubs. When I heard her scream, my instincts kicked in and my feet shot without hesitation into the room. She had not only used the shower but had also mismanaged the temperature. My chest compressed recalling how her body curled frantically on the floor leaning against the counter, horror-filled eyes and fingers trembling while pointing at the hot pouring water, the steam filling the whole room. I could barely hold myself from pulling at my strands in frustratio
~Odessa~I threw my hands up instinctively, shielding my face as I stumbled away from the stream. My skin burned from the sudden heat, my heart lurching to my throat from the shock."No, no, stop." I stuttered, reaching towards the shower handle, squinting through the water splashing around me.My fingers fumbled over the knob, trying to adjust the temperature to the colder side. However, my vision suddenly turned blurry, my fingers trembling and unable to grab a thing.Breathless and shaken, I pushed away leaving the water to run, my eyes fixed on the showerhead as if it had betrayed me. My heart continued racing, my skin still burning from the brief exposure. The steam from the hot water grew as it continued to pour fiercely down. What was happening to me? How could I have accidentally turned the water to scorching hot?"Somebody help! Help me please!" I screamed. "Elsa, is anyone there?!" I called, hoping that someone was there to help me. My head began to spin faster than I coul
~Odessa~Margaret had returned to my room after breakfast. Unfortunately, she had to leave again after an emergency call she received."My dear, I'm sorry to leave you all by yourself. But don't worry, I will ask Elsa to keep you company." Margaret said, noticing my curiosity."Don't worry, I'm fine. What came up is not something you should be worried about." She explained before I could get more troubled."Alright, Mamagrate, see you later."Margaret nodded and said, "See you later, my dear." She kissed my forehead and hurried to leave.Once she was gone, I returned my gaze to the quietness of the room. For the first time in weeks, I wondered where my husband was. I wondered what he did in his free time.Does he also feel this lost, lonely, and empty like I feel whenever no one is there with me?Loneliness. The word struck an aching meaning in my head. I don't know why. But no matter how much Margaret clung around me, no matter how hard Elsa tried to make sure everything I needed wa
~Odessa~"Fine, I... I heard all you said. But Juliana, always know that I'll do everything possible to protect you. And you don't just need a promise for you to believe in me," I nodded at her in silence. And truly hoped her words were true. That there would be no more secrets to hide from me. That no matter what, I would be safe with them. There shouldn't be, because I don't know what I will do if I find out there was more. Knowing that my husband was a beast was enough of a secret.Seeing that she had nothing more to say, I turned towards the stairway. As I walked up the stairs, Adrian's look from a while ago flashed in my eyes. The grunt, and snort that had followed as he walked back inside. Beyond that anger that never left his eyes, I'd noticed something more about him now.It looked as though he had grown into his own despair. His beard had become overgrown, no longer neatly lined like it used to be. Even his hair seems to be growing faster.Or perhaps, I simply hadn't notice
