MasukJACE
The sound of laughter rang out from my left and I hummed in disapproval. Why the hell was I here again? Myra giggled beside me and I turned to look at my friend’s grinning face. “God, you’re such a grouch.” She teased, the corners of her eyes crinkling. “Myra, the only words I want to hear from your mouth are ‘Oh Jace my savior, thank you for accompanying me to this party instead of working all night like my husband’ anything else, zip it.” I had at least three contracts to review with my secretary, let’s not forget Michael’s proposal for the quaterly convention ….last year’s was bad and I had to make sure everything went smoothly this time around. I knew there was something else I was forgetting. So far I’d run the company for a full year without burning in to the ground, but me and everyone who knew me thought there was still time for that. No one would be surprised if I screw up. “Jace.” “What?” I asked, sounding irritated. I noticed a pair of girls whispering to themselves as they glanced my way. One of them smiled in my direction but I turned to Myra, dismissing them. My second problem. Since I was so “volatile”, the board had decided having a wife would somehow make me stable. I was all too aware of my title as an eligible bachelor. What that meant for me was a bunch of women I had to turn down. Old Jace would never turn a good time down. And I had plenty. I sighed and tried to focus my attention on the present. “You know, Pierce actually wanted you to come here today. He says you’re overworked.” That fucker. “He’s working right now and that’s not an issue.” I argued. “He’s working now because he spent the whole week with us.” ’Us’ being their three kids, strange grandmother and her sister. The reason I was at this party. “Where’s your sister?” I didn’t like saying her name, the way it rolled off my tongue like a praise made my brain itch in a bad way. “I texted her a few minutes ago.” “Great. The sooner she gives her ring to her boyfriend, the less time I have to spend here.” “It’s a promise bracelet.” I shot her another irritated look. “Jeez, what is it about the job that makes you all so cranky?” She rolled her eyes and focused on the party. ”Oh look, there she is.” Myra grabbed my shoulder and pointed at the far right, towards the entrance. I heard my name being whispered. Fun. More people were noticing me. Or was it Myra? The woman had managed to tame the city’s meanest and richest man, four years after their wedding and they were still the talk town. Her sister stood, dark hair loose around her shoulders in a black dress that showed her silhouette. Her eyes were towards the group of girls giving their bracelets. I don’t know what it was but something felt off. I followed Myra silently, steeling myself for the meeting with Lily. She and I never got along. Not after what I did to her, but I preferred it that way. I would break someone like her. Myra shouted her name and it surprisingly carried through in the loud room. It was then that I noticed her boyfriend next to her. The guy who was dumb enough to date her and not want to be public with her. Lily didn’t deserve a fucker like him. But she wanted him. So much that she got Myra to talk to me about placing him as an intern in the firm. Lily smiled, a spark in her eye. She grinned at Myra and hugged her. A look quite different from what she had when we first saw her, on her face. “Mr Whitmore, it is such an honor to meet you in person, I can’t wait to officially be a part of the company after my internship.” Dumb boyfriend started. I grunted, my eyes still on Lily. The question of his employment was based on his performance. If he thought Lily was an easy in, he was wrong. She separated from her sister and looked at me. But instead of the usual disdain, there was something else… And she was smiling at me. Cheek dimples and all. I ignored the foreign feeling in my chest and narrowed my eyes at her. Lily only rolled her eyes before she came closer and wrapped her arms around me. Wait, this was a hug. I looked down at the top of her head, my body completely rigid, then glanced at her sister who looked just as surprised. “What the fuc-“ “Jace…” she whispered breathily, and fuck if that didn’t fry my brain further. She pulled back slightly, one hand still halfway around me and the other on my arm. “I just want to let you know that I’ve thought about your offer.” “Lily, what are you doing?” Her boyfriend hissed, looking around us. I became aware that we had attracted a lot more attention. It is on my tongue to ask Lily why the hell she was still holding on, when I feel her short nails dig into my arm. Painfully. I look down again, and find a plea in her eyes. Is she begging? Begging for what? my offer… “Uhh… and what do you think about my offer?” She laughed giddily like she was excited to reveal the news and I wondered about the decisions that brought me here. “Yes!” She said loudly. I’m sure the room was completely silent. “I will be your girlfriend!” Hwhat? “Now hold on-“ Myra starts to speak but Lily grabbed her hand quickly. “I’m so sorry, I never told you, but Jace had asked me out a while ago. And he’s been incessant about it. I told him I would give him an answer tonight so, there it is. I think I want to give us a chance.” She didn’t say it loud enough for everyone to hear, but her boyfriend and a couple others must’ve heard. I was sure Myra is also in a death grip, because she said, “oh…darling that’s…that’s wonderful.” I guess being actors in the past was paying off for both of us. Lily released our arms and dug into her purse for something. Seconds later, she was armed with a bracelet. The murmurs around us increased as she slipped the little bracelet onto my wrist. was this her elaborate way of breaking up with him? I knew Lily was dramatic but to rope us into it. So childish. I imagined dealing with the press after this. “There” she said when she was done and everyone erupted into cheers and clapping. Her boyfriend grabbed her hand and pulled her, and I fought the urge to smack him. “What are you doing? What do you mean by you’re his girlfriend?! We were supposed to-“ “Timothy, would you like to do this here, or somewhere more private.” She whispered back. His eyes darted to mine briefly. And whatever he saw made him drop his arm. He cleared his throat and straightened his suit. “Private.” Lily hugged her sister and me at the same time, awkwardly. “I’m so sorry, I promise I’ll explain later. But we should leave soon, I’ll meet you in the lot.” “Lily-“ Myra started but she was gone. “I guess we should do as she says. “You should go to the car, I’ll be there with Lily.” Myra nodded once, before I started weaving through the crowd in the direction Lily had gone.***** LILY *****“Wow Jace, I never thought you could look bad, this is…great news,” he looked like he hadn’t slept a wink in days. And the ways his eyes traveled over me humorless, was concerning, “are you okay?”He huffed a breath and peeled his eyes off me. “Yeah I’m fine,”“You don’t look fine.” I mumbled. “I’m getting there.”Such a cryptic answer. I tuned his stereo till it was playing something I liked and hummed along to the music, as I forced my nerves down.“Are you sure you’re up for this?” I asked when we pulled into the crowded parking area. I stared at the large park ahead of us filled with over sixty men, women and kids. “We could just… I don’t know, hang out at my house. Let everyone assume we wanted to spend time together.”He shook his head, then brushed his hand over his face. “They need to watch us together. That’s the reason we’re here. You can make Taser jealous as well. I’m sure he’ll be doing his best to be near us.” He would. Which meant Evie would be right
***** JACE *****Three pairs of eyes, shock carved them, stared back at me. My mother had her hand on her chest dramatically. If I cared enough, I would shut my mouth and go out the door but I was filled with anger that had nowhere to go. “You won’t speak to your mother like that, especially in the presence of a stranger-““You mean the woman you think is so bloody perfect? She’s now a stranger?” “I’ll take my leave,” Gianna whispered, the room completely silent save for the sound of her shoes on the floor.I turned as well. I needed a fucking drink and space from these two.“You stay right there!” Mum snapped at me.“Alicia-““No, Gregory. He doesn’t get to embarrass me that way and walk away. You think you’re the only one who’s angry? I am too! For years I have endured. Gossip, insults! ‘Oh have you heard, Greg’s taken a new mistress’ ‘hope his new secretary can last longer than the last one’ ‘her son doesn’t even visit her’ ‘did you hear about his latest escapade,’ over and over
***** LILY *****“There were many wonderful pieces in your sketchbook Evelyn, but this one stood out for me.” Élan complimented. “The way designers of now are afraid to put color on paper, like it would ruin the vision- I mean I understand the need to keep it blank but this is…good job.”“Thank you miss Élan.” She sat higher in her seat, the epitome of pride, while I narrowed my eyes at the drawing again. That’s what was so strange about it. Evie never used colors, and if she did it was very light handed. Hell she had made fun of my sketches severally. Saying they looked like a child colored over them. “It is a wonderful color combination,” Élan continued, “and since we’re talking about color, I will mention another artist that comes to mind.” One of my sketches flicked on the screen and my back went stiff with anxiety. More vibrant colors reflected on the screen. She was showing a sample from my last submission. “Lily Thompson?” I raised my hand shyly, forcing a smile to my face.
***** JACE *****I stared at my parents, not sure if I had imagined their presence with a work muddled brain. My secretary entered the office with a file in hand and an apologetic expression.“They didn’t give me enough time to warn you.” She whispered as she dropped the file, then smiled and left us alone. Mom made her way to the window while dad went through the term sheet I had been studying a while ago. “Is anyone going to say anything?” I asked, a pulse in my head throbbing. Got a headache from them just being here. I opened the drawer to my left and pulled out a bottle of painkillers.“We wanted to check on your performance.” My father answered, taking the seat in front of me. He was dressed up in a classic suit getup, minus the vest. “Your office spies weren’t helpful this time?”“We wanted to see things for ourselves. Besides, if you would just speak to us, we wouldn't have to go through extreme measures,” mum jumped to her husband’s defense. “Alright, things are great, yo
***** LILY *****About how much of a fool he was thinking I was under some love crazed spell. How much of a fool I was to miss him and Evie’s relationship. I swallowed the bile in my throat and smiled at him. “The company’s outing is coming up in a week. I suppose Evelyn will be your date.”“She doesn’t have to come if you don’t want her to, Lilybud.” He placed his hand on my arm and stepped closer to me, “Matter of fact we haven’t spoken a lot since the Promise ball. I haven’t been able to get you out of my head-““She should come.” I cut off his manipulative spiel. “I’ve had a while to think about everything, and I don’t see why you two should be apart.” His face morphed to confusion as he realized this wasn’t a conversation about getting back together. “Sure it’s messy, but you fit. A match made in heaven.” I gave his person a onceover again, wiping the top of my nose “discreetly” Taser tugged the collar of his shirt as he grimaced. That was the main purpose of this visit. To wat
***** LILY *****Was I offering to suck Jace Whitmore off in his office? Yes indeed I was. In place of the shame I was supposed to feel was eagerness. I wanted to touch him, a little brush and then harder so I could feel the length of him against my palm. He had managed to keep a little space between us but I had eyes. No one fucks liks me princess. If only he would be kind enough to prove it. Too bad I just had to settle for getting on his nerves. But for all the teasing I was doing, it was getting to me too. If my shaky hands were anything to go by.I stroked his tie, ignoring how stiff his whole body had turned. “I wouldn’t say I’m bad at a handjob, but there might be room for improvement.”I refused to think of all the other women that may have wrapped their hands around his cock. That was not part of my concern. Jace's fingers dug into my thigh and I was sure his imprints would stay a little while after his hands were off me. I didn’t mind the branding, not with the glitter c
***** JACE ***** One lie had become a truth, because it seemed Lily was genuinely interested in horses and looking forward to the races.“Apparently they’re just large dogs. Like a dog you could ride. Ohhh I hope I get to pet one!”“It’s a sport, not a petting zoo.” She mocked my voice and scrunc
***** LILY *****My cheeks were red. One, Glitterball had won! Two, I kissed Jace.Completely unprompted, no warning. And I’d like to say I didn’t mean to, but I had been thinking about kissing him again since the parking lot. I slapped my hands over my reddening cheeks and pushed it out of my mind
***** LILY *****I walked across the parking lot, my eyes scanning my surroundings. I was certain no one would be here for at least an hour, so I had time to do the deed and get out.And everyone would assume I was here to see Jace, not find my ex’s car. I cringed as my phone pinged with a new mes
***** LILY *****Taser and I had been on sex hiatus. It was finals and things were hectic, I understood. But being so intimately pressed with a man that made little sounds like he was tortured while his teeth grazed my teeth, six months felt like a bloody lifetime. His tongue darted out to taste th
