LOGINLILY
Pierce Blackwood is a scary man. At some point in our lives, before baby number one had even dropped, I was sure he was going to kill my sister. Very wrong assumption. But the way he looked at Jace now, I was sure he would commit murder. “I have no idea what’s going on either, this is ALL her.” Jace answered casually and strolled to the couch farthest away from me, where he sprawled, one long leg crossed over the other. Stupid big man. How dare he be so comfortable, this was serious! “Lily!” Myra yelled. I turned, my cheeks red. I had only looked at him for a second. Ah yes…the explanation. I started with an apology. “I am sooo sorry I roped you all into this, it really isn’t how I thought the night would go.” I took in a deep breath readying myself. On top of my heart wrenching experience, I had to narrate said heart wrenching experience that same night, to everyone in the room (including Jace) AND tell it in a way that gathered enough sympathy to make them all go with my plan. “Earlier this night I walked in on my boyfriend lick-“ I choked on my words, “ahhh, cheating on me.” I thought about the scene and the tears that sprouted to my eyes came naturally. No, I could not cry about Taser, not yet. “Oh honey…” my sister cooed. Pierce joined her on the couch and wrapped an arm around her to comfort her. I swear, these two… “I was overwhelmed, hurt. You know how that feels…” was I petty bringing up their past rocky moments? Probably. “And then I saw Myra and Jace, and …I panicked, Taser looks up to Jace, so I knew it would piss him off if I…did what I did. So I did.” Pierce let out a weary sigh. Jace was silent, Angie had disappeared…and my sister looked at me pitifully. The nail in the coffin that she was right about disliking Taser. She would never say it outloud though. My sister was too nice. “So what are we going to do. Honey?” My sister looked at the expert in all things coverup. Being a multibillionaire CEO, Pierce had his fair share of manipulating media to what he wanted it to look like. Unfortunately I had different ideas of what I wanted tonight to look like. Pierce shrugged, stroking his beard, “I was on the phone with Wilber before you came in, he says the-“ “I actually have another idea.” I said loudly. “What is it?” I glanced at Jace. He needed the most convincing. “I was thinking we could stay in a relationship for a short while.” My sister was the only one with a shocked face. The other two had good poker faces. “It’s not a real relationship! just pretend.” “Absolutely not-“ …Myra “Do you even know what you’re asking for-“ …Pierce “Fine.”…Jace -wait Jace! My face lit up with hope. “Did I hear right?!” My sister whisper yelled. “Just hear me out.” Jace said, sitting up. Their attention was now on him, no longer me, so was mine actually, why did he readily agree? Since he detested me so much. I wouldn’t touch you with a ten-foot pole even if I was paid to. I shook off the memory. “I’ve been CEO for a year, and my company’s throwing me under a bus to find my better half.” He said the word like it was poison. “We know that’s not happening, but the world thinks it’ll be a mark in my reformation.” A reformation from party king to sober CEO. It had been a year since his brother died, and I thought he was doing okay so far. “A girlfriend would get them off my back.” he continued, “I’ve been planning on making an arrangement with someone for a while, I was analyzing candidates which is why I should’ve been at work today. But I’m here, and we have this situation. Might ad well get the best out of it.” Done, he leaned back in his seat. This was working out better than I thought. He was gaining something out of it too.. “I’m not letting you drag my sister into some elaborate scheme.” Myra protested. Pierce was silent, and I was hopeful. “This was my idea.” I pointed out. “Pierce…” she pleaded. He whispered something in her ear that made her huff and focus on my nephew. Was that a win? “If we…agree to this, you know it’s going to be difficult. For what you’re planning, you need to convince the world that you …love Lily.” I snorted. “And that she loves you.” Jace hummed. Asshat. “And that clearly won’t work, you can barely stay in the same room.” Myra concluded. “He called me a midget the first time we met, and then covered me with non recyclable glitter, he’s hardly great company.” I snapped. “You say it like I was wrong, short stack.” Jace drawled. “See.” Myra pointed out. “But.” I continued, schooling my anger. “This is important to me. And it seems it’s important to him too. Sis, if we call this off, I have to face all my mates like a sad pathetic loser. Pleaseeeee let this happen.” I closed the distance between us and gave her my best puppy eyes. See how desperate I am. “Okay.” Myra said with a sigh. I beamed at her, relief flooding me. “Thank you.” She smiled at me before her eyes flitted to Jace. “Could you take Ian to bed for me. And check the others too.” I understood when I was asked to leave the room, but I wasn’t worried. They had agreed, that was all I cared about right now. I collected my nephew and went up the stairs as I plotted my next move. Taser had spent four years lying to me. All the things I had endured in his hand and in Evie’s because I thought they were my people. This was a mission to get the old Lily back. And old Lily was a selfish little bitch. I would make them both regret ever crossing me.*****JACE*****Gianna rolled her eyes at my expression. “You can’t be surprised about this, and you can’t tell me you haven’t thought of it even once.”I was honest enough to admit I had. My parents' agreement on it just left a bad taste in my mouth. Especially when in their eyes, I was in love with Lily. Believing that, why would they think it’s okay to force Gianna on me. “Let’s just talk about this in private, okay?” Nomi approached us, a wide grin on his face. “I agree.” I stepped away from her, needing to make my escape before he caught up with us. I faked a friendly smile at Creed’s wife when I passed her on my way to the single building. Taser hung off to the side, watching Lily’s ex best friend chummy up to the woman. His frown deepened when he saw me and he pushed off the gate he was leaning on. I did not have the time for this.“So she told you.” He started, and fell into step beside me. “I’m not in the mood.” I answered curtly. “I just thought I offer some help, seei
***** LILY *****Jace turned to me, an eyebrow raised. “You know my favorite color?”I shrugged, “I read an article about you, you know incase someone jumps out of a bush and tells me to say your favorite color to prove my love for you.”The corners of his mouth tugged up as he shook his head. “Fine, team red it is.”His finger danced on my shoulder as we watched the game, while I tried not to dwell on the fact that it felt very comfortable to be this close to him.I cursed under my breath when the whistle went off, and the team in blue jumped about celebrating. “Better luck next time, princess.” He whispered in my ear, his breath tickling my neck. For good measure, he planted a chaste kiss on my cheek, probably rubbing in the fact I didn’t get one where I wanted. When I turned to glare at him, I was met with a lopsided grin that faltered when my eyes zeroed on that mouth. So close… He tugged on my hair, “no bad thoughts.” He mummured, then leaned forward and planted another peck on
***** LILY *****“Wow Jace, I never thought you could look bad, this is…great news,” he looked like he hadn’t slept a wink in days. And the ways his eyes traveled over me humorless, was concerning, “are you okay?”He huffed a breath and peeled his eyes off me. “Yeah I’m fine,”“You don’t look fine.” I mumbled. “I’m getting there.”Such a cryptic answer. I tuned his stereo till it was playing something I liked and hummed along to the music, as I forced my nerves down.“Are you sure you’re up for this?” I asked when we pulled into the crowded parking area. I stared at the large park ahead of us filled with over sixty men, women and kids. “We could just… I don’t know, hang out at my house. Let everyone assume we wanted to spend time together.”He shook his head, then brushed his hand over his face. “They need to watch us together. That’s the reason we’re here. You can make Taser jealous as well. I’m sure he’ll be doing his best to be near us.” He would. Which meant Evie would be right
***** JACE *****Three pairs of eyes, shock carved them, stared back at me. My mother had her hand on her chest dramatically. If I cared enough, I would shut my mouth and go out the door but I was filled with anger that had nowhere to go. “You won’t speak to your mother like that, especially in the presence of a stranger-““You mean the woman you think is so bloody perfect? She’s now a stranger?” “I’ll take my leave,” Gianna whispered, the room completely silent save for the sound of her shoes on the floor.I turned as well. I needed a fucking drink and space from these two.“You stay right there!” Mum snapped at me.“Alicia-““No, Gregory. He doesn’t get to embarrass me that way and walk away. You think you’re the only one who’s angry? I am too! For years I have endured. Gossip, insults! ‘Oh have you heard, Greg’s taken a new mistress’ ‘hope his new secretary can last longer than the last one’ ‘her son doesn’t even visit her’ ‘did you hear about his latest escapade,’ over and over
***** LILY *****“There were many wonderful pieces in your sketchbook Evelyn, but this one stood out for me.” Élan complimented. “The way designers of now are afraid to put color on paper, like it would ruin the vision- I mean I understand the need to keep it blank but this is…good job.”“Thank you miss Élan.” She sat higher in her seat, the epitome of pride, while I narrowed my eyes at the drawing again. That’s what was so strange about it. Evie never used colors, and if she did it was very light handed. Hell she had made fun of my sketches severally. Saying they looked like a child colored over them. “It is a wonderful color combination,” Élan continued, “and since we’re talking about color, I will mention another artist that comes to mind.” One of my sketches flicked on the screen and my back went stiff with anxiety. More vibrant colors reflected on the screen. She was showing a sample from my last submission. “Lily Thompson?” I raised my hand shyly, forcing a smile to my face.
***** JACE *****I stared at my parents, not sure if I had imagined their presence with a work muddled brain. My secretary entered the office with a file in hand and an apologetic expression.“They didn’t give me enough time to warn you.” She whispered as she dropped the file, then smiled and left us alone. Mom made her way to the window while dad went through the term sheet I had been studying a while ago. “Is anyone going to say anything?” I asked, a pulse in my head throbbing. Got a headache from them just being here. I opened the drawer to my left and pulled out a bottle of painkillers.“We wanted to check on your performance.” My father answered, taking the seat in front of me. He was dressed up in a classic suit getup, minus the vest. “Your office spies weren’t helpful this time?”“We wanted to see things for ourselves. Besides, if you would just speak to us, we wouldn't have to go through extreme measures,” mum jumped to her husband’s defense. “Alright, things are great, yo
“There’s a perfectly good booth across from me. Shoo.”Lily swatted her hand at me after I sat down beside her“New rule, you sit beside me when we go out, not across from me, unless it’s a situation that requires it.” That way, I could act as a barrier between her and whatever horrors -aka dumb ex
**** JACE *****“You did mom.” There was no use pretending her words weren’t true. She wasn’t the only one who expected only the worst from me. But I had run the company for a year with zero experience under my belt, except from my years in Harvard business school, she could at least have some fait
***** JACE *****I could get rid of him. A simple note to the right person ans “Taser” wouldn’t be able to walk into my building, but I knew what doing that would mean.It meant I cared enough about Lily to get her ex dropped, and I didn’t, so Timothy would join the interns that would be in the off
LILYI had imagined what our first meeting after the breakup would be like. So many scenarios in between all my crying. In one he would walk in on Jace all over me, and I would flip my hair dramatically and say we didn’t see him there. Of course, that imagination branched farther and more detailed
