This is a horrible idea. I drummed my fingers know the steering wheel of my car as I sped through the city. It was less than twenty-four hours since the scene at Lily’s party. I could still reverse things, find a way to explain the night away. So much easier than the game of charades we were going to play for the next few months. Doable… My hands tightened on the steering wheel. Problem was, I didn’t want to do it. The image of Lily’s frightened face at the hotel flashed in my head. It was that same face that made me agree to this after she proposed it. I recognise that look. On another face, decades in the past. It’s the very reason I should call this off, but here I was driving to her sister’s house in the morning instead of my office. I parked my car at the door, since I had no intention of staying there long and stepped into the chaos that Myra’s house always seemed to be in. “Uncle J!” Maxwell yelled from hid spot on the floor, in front of the tv with a big bowl of cereal. Before he could get up to greet me, Angie grabbed him and began wiping off the flakes of wet cereal from his face. “Hey lil man, where’s your sister?” It was a school day which meant Heidi might have already left the house. “Here! Hey stretch.” She waltzed into the living room smiling, her new braces on full display. “Mum said you and buddy are married now.” I refused to feed shame for how white my face turned at the word ‘marriage’ “See! That’s what I said!” She continued. “We’re all aware of what a monster Jace is.” Just like it always did, Lily’s voice filled me with a mix of anticipation and cowardice. I refused to turn and acknowledge her. Not yet. “I thought we agreed no fighting?” Myra joined us in the living room, Ian strapped to her chest. She shot me a look and I was thrust back to our last conversation. …She will not be one of your conquests Jace. My sister is a lot sensitive that she lets on -I’m sure you understand… I did. Afterall I had spent the most part of my life building my image as party driven, sex crazed deviant. I couldn’t blame my friend for trying to protect her sister, even though she had nothing to worry about. The woman was not my type. ”Are we leaving or not?” She asked, boredom leaking into her voice. Finally I turned. Lily was in denim overalls and tube top, Her dark hair wss piled atop healr head in a messy bun, wavy bits framing her face. Her eyes were concealed with big dark shades but i could feel her glare through them. She raised her arm to her hip and waited for my answer. I gestured towards the door and waited, breath held till she was past me and out the door. This was a horrible idea. Lily was leaning on my car when I got out. “You know most people say good morning to the guy who’s dating them.” Fake dating. I corrected in my head. She let out a weary sigh and looked up at me. “It’s barely a day and you’re already making demands.” Irritation flared in my chest as I plucked the shades from her eyes. “Hey!” She snapped amd tried to grab it from me, but keeping it away was easy. I could see the top of her head for chrissakes. Well not anymore, because she was glaring again. I noticed two things at once. One, Lily had been crying, if her red and irritated eyes were anything to go by. Two, I was standing too godamn close to her. Close enough to see how pink her nose was, a result of the crying no doubt. Close enough to smell her. Which brought me to a third realization, Lily was in her old perfume. And a fourth, I had said the last bit outloud. She huffed, “not that it’s your business, but the Clive was Taser’s thing. I prefer to smell like…me.” And yet she hadn’t in over a year. I stepped back from her. “If we want this to work, we need to make an effort to be nice to eachother.” “In public.” “How will you nail that if you can’t be nice when we’re alone?” We needed more than wishful thinking to pull this off, which was why I was meeting her today. I handed her glasses back to her and moved to my side of the car. Everything was stacked against us, we didn’t like eachother, could barely tolerate being close, and I doubted neither of us knew how to be in love. Lily’s opinions on that matter were void since she managed to date the dumbest man in history, I didn’t exactly have knowledge of this front. She was going to be my first girlfriend afterall. Fake girlfriend, I reminded myself, eyes on the steering as she slipped in beside me. “We have a lot to do. And we’re going to start with breakfast.” “I’m not hungry.” She argued. “Find your fucking appetite, short stack, we’re eating.” She crossed her arm over her chest and stared out the glass. “You can use this opportunity to think about great conversation starters.” I snapped as I zoomed away from her sister’s home. I knew that no matter how snarky she was being, she wanted this to work. And for some reason, even though it would be easier to pull a love scam with literally ANYONE else but her, I wanted it to work too. Us to work. A real fucking horrible idea***** LILY *****Jace glanced above my head. Like he was waiting to be saved by a mystery problem. The alarms went off signaling the end of the game. I didn’t really care about my points on the score board, I was about to score right now. If only he’d bloody look at me. “You gave me your word.” I reminded him.“I did.” He concurred, “tricky little minx.” He braced his hand on the block behind me, and pulled my fingers from underneath his vest. “We didn’t say anything about touching.”“We didn’t say anything about not touching.” I argued back, holding his shirt tighter. “If you want this kiss, you will do exactly what I tell you.” His tone had taken a slight deep, not exactly bossy, but also not leaving room for refusal. Shit. When were they going to turn the lights on so I could see his face. “Lily.”My hands dropped to my sides, but I inched forward a little. Jace had a little smirk on his face before his head descended. My hands itched to come up, to cling tightly to the hair a
***** LILY *****I managed to get hit twice before Jace grabbed me by the waist and hauled me back to our hiding spot.“Now why the fuck would you do that?” He hissed.“I didn’t say I was going to make your job easier.”He said a few curse words and peeked his head over the block to scout for others. “Fine. You want to be that way?” He hooked his finger under my vest and pulled me closer. My heart jerked like it was on a string. “New deal, you do exactly as I say, when I say it, or I’m going to fuck up your next revenge ploy against your ex. I tutted, “Fine.” Whatever. The entire game was fifteen minutes. I could definitely get hit five times without even trying. Then…I would get my reward. A tingle sizzled down my spine. “onward soldier.”“No more running.”“You have my word.” “You stay glued to my side.”“No better place to be, pretty boy.” He let out an unintelligible sound, raised his gun up and started to walk. “Other than my family, what other red string is there?” He glan
***** JACE *****Gianna moaned, and wriggled her ass at me unaware that my dick was back in my pants. “You’ve been so good. You deserve a reward don’t you?” She nodded, a whimper escaping her when I pressed my palm into her pussy. “Take it then.”She ground into my fingers getting herself off on that, and the noncommittal encouragement I provided till her body shook with her orgasm. I kissed her shoulder softly; the only thanks, and apology for leaving so abruptly, before I snagged a tissue on the entry table, wiped my fingers off with it, tossed it in the trash and left in more of a rut than when I showed up.I could not even bring myself to ask about the talk she had been hinting at us having. I fled her house like a man being hunted. And maybe I was. Haunted and taunted by Lily’s know it all smirk.I had told her to find someone to turn her interest on. I should hope that she did. It meant we could bury this topic like it never existed. I brushed my hand over my face, hating the
***** JACE *****Horrible idea. I declared it from the first day, and I was fucking right. I slid into my car, pulled up Gianna’s name and dialed. If she was too busy, then I would find someone else. Maybe not Daisy- definitely not her, but someone just as discreet as Gianna would be. It didn’t matter what body I was burying myself in, it just had to be done, because clearly, my lack of sex was affecting me badly.Fuck, I could not get the image of her, staring at me so hungrily, like she wanted to take a bite out of me. There was particular pleasure to be found when women took the reins. Some were shy and didn’t know what to do, or overwhelmed with the prospect. Others touched to please…Lily touched me for her own pleasure. It felt good to watch her be selfish. It should feel horrible, I corrected the thought. It was abysmal.“Hello, stranger.” Gianna’s sultry voice came from the speakers. I loosened my grip on the steering wheel.“Gigi.” Simple enough words. I doubt I could mana
***** LILY *****Colds were a good reminder of how awesome it was to be able to breathe properly. Recovering from one, meant enjoying all the smells around you. None should be taken for granted. So it was with great pleasure that I took my first unobstructed inhale while awake, expecting the smell of flowers or peppermint from that diffuser I bought two weeks ago. Instead, I got a whiff of perfume. Not mine. I nudged closer to figure out the mystery provided by the nose Gods, feeling a bout of sleepy victory when I identified whose it was.Jace.Wait, Jace? My eyes flew open, fighting sleepiness as I realized that my pillow hadn’t turned into a solid male body at night, I was lying next to one. Currently clinging to him, like I was afraid he would slip away.Shit how do I fix this? He wouldn't notice if I rolled off, would he?I tested my theory by shifting just a smidget and felt him stiffen under me. “Lily.” He groaned, and boy did the sound do wonders to my sex deprived brain. I
**** JACE *****I was a busy man. The several files decorating my table and bottomless unopened emails was proof of that, and yet, I found the time to check my messages again. Three days since we had dinner at her sister’s and still nothing from Lily. No plot to take down her ex boyfriend, or a cheeky message directed to her “snookums”. Radio silence. I loosened my tie and refreshed our messages again. My last text to her had been about our company’s moral outing and there was still not a word from her, so I wasn’t worrying for nothing. Or was I just getting the silent treatment. “Mr Whitmore,” Amy’s voice came through the intercom. “Just confirming if you’ll be available for your two o’clock meeting.”I glanced at the watch on my wrist. That was in thirty minutes. There were several things I could fit into that time, then have the meeting and attend to other things I’d planned for the day.“Mr. Whitmore?”Don’t even think about it, it’s a bad idea…“Jace?”I grabbed my jacket off
LILYI had imagined what our first meeting after the breakup would be like. So many scenarios in between all my crying. In one he would walk in on Jace all over me, and I would flip my hair dramatically and say we didn’t see him there. Of course, that imagination branched farther and more detailed
JACEWhat was this kiss but one bad decision to top the others. It couldn’t be helped though. And as my lip brushed against her soft full lips, I decided my decision wasn’t so bad. Her lips parted, perhaps in shock of what was happening. I took advantage of the gap, and deepened the kiss till our l

***** JACE *****I could get rid of him. A simple note to the right person ans “Taser” wouldn’t be able to walk into my building, but I knew what doing that would mean.It meant I cared enough about Lily to get her ex dropped, and I didn’t, so Timothy would join the interns that would be in the off
