Prologue

Sophie’s Pov

Outside the sun shone perfectly, like it was quarried by God for not shining brightly the day before. The weather seemed clear unlike what the weather app had stated.

“Ouch” I winced as my finger involuntarily hit the sharp edge of my dresser, I placed the affected finger in my mouth while I sucked on It lightly.

My eyes stopped at the wall clock and I suddenly realized it was past ten “Shit” I cussed silently while I hurriedly tied my hair up in a messy bun, I readjusted my black trouser and my pink top after which I hurriedly wore a black flat while I put around my neck a white cross bag which I had earlier placed on my bed.

The sound of my phone ringing from the dresser interrupted me just as I was about thinking to apply makeup. I picked up my phone from my bed and then placed it in between my ear and shoulder while I used my other hand to arrange my eyebrow.

“Missing me already?” I smiled into my phone.

“You didn’t give me a chance to” Chris, my fiancé replied while I groaned in return.

Even though we had spent the night together and I left him just this morning, Chris always made it an habit to call immediately he was out of the bed and about to start his day.

“Can you make it to Best Choice” Chris spoke again referring to our favorite restaurant that we usually eat.

“Can it wait?” I asked hurriedly after my eyes saw the clock again suddenly reminding me of the time “Albert has been kind enough and I don’t want to take anymore excuses” I added.

“If that was the case then I wouldn’t have asked at all” Chris told me “I spoke to Albert already and he agreed to give you a few hours off” Chris told me again.

“Chris” I tried to protest but he bit me to it.

“I’ll send my driver to pick you up” Chris said into the phone and then hanged up.

After the call had ended I couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was wrong somewhere. Chris never ends call in that manner except something was wrong or maybe he lost something valuable.

Maybe it was one of his numerous surprises, he wants to introduce me to his family. Chris and I have been in a relationship for the past five years now, regardless of the fact that we got engaged a few month ago and I was yet to meet his family, I was certain he would take me to them when the time was right, I knew for a fact whatever it was Chris was protecting me.

I sat on my bed while I waited for his driver to come pick me up, I used the opportunity to scroll through my phone and also replied to the message Gia, my best friend had sent to me last night.

A few minutes later my phone beeped and I jumped up when I got the message that Chris diver had arrived. I walked out of my room, locking the door behind me I hurried down the stairs.

“I’m going Mom” I said to mom who only nodded in return while I dashed out . She wasn’t all happy about my relationship with Chris, although Chris was perfect there was absolutely nothing he would do that would please mom, as mom thought I was blinded by the fact that he has money.

“Steve” I smiled at Chris’s driver who parked just right outside the gate. Immediately Steve noticed me his eyes brightened as usual and he smiled back brightly even more than me.

“Miss Sophie” He nodded in return wanting to open the car door for me but I beat him to it.

“You make me feel old” I groaned jokingly while I entered the car.

“I don’t think I can even if I wanted to” Steve said with a smile just as he got in and fastened his seat belt.

Dimples I had no idea he had up until now appeared at the side of his cheek. Steve has been Chris driver for years now and he had been one of my very best supporter.

The ride to best choice was pretty enjoyable, Steve and I chatted about little things which put my mind a little at ease concerning Chris behavior earlier.

We arrived at best choice “Chris care about you, you know that right?” Steve asked just as I was about to get down from the car.

I studied his face for a minute, I could swear there was something else laced to his voice but I couldn’t put a hand to it “I’ll keep that in mind, sir” I saluted jokingly while I got down from the car and headed into the restaurant.

Chris sat at the far end of the restaurant, his brown hair covered most part of his face while he focused on something on his phone. He was dressed in a casual black jean and a red top unlike his usual cooperate dressing.

Immediately he sighted me his chocolate eyes brightened and a smile covered his fair extremely gorgeous face. He stood up to move a chair for me to sit opposite him and I smiled at his sweet gesture.

“So I...” Chris started to say after we had both settled in.

“Let’s order something first, I haven’t eaten anything this morning” I told him just as my stomach protested in his own way.

“Sure” Chris smiled while he made our usual order of burger, fries, a small sized ketchup and a coke.

Immediately the food arrived I digged into mine hurriedly while Chris stared at me amused “If you’re going to say something please do, your stares can barely make me eat comfortably” I told him while I pushed the food to my side.

“Soph” He said, his smile died down and whatever he was going to say I knew it wasn’t going to go well.

I stared at him hopefully while wishing he was going to tell me something good not the negative thoughts I have had on my mind for a while now.

“Lets break up” I heard him say after like forever, I studied his face and for a minute it seemed to be void of all emotion and if I didn’t know any better I would say it was somebody else and not Chris.

“Okay, That was funny” I replied after some minutes with a hard laugh at the end of my lips.

“Soph” Chris eyes met mine “Let’s break up Soph” He repeated again even more clearer that he was the first time.

“If this is a joke or some prank I wouldn’t take this Chris” I warned Chris.

“Don’t you see it Soph? You’re not good enough for me” Chris said much to my surprise “No matter how hard you try you can never fit into my world” He added while his eyes said even more than that.

Tears blurred my vision as my whole body shook, I felt every good thing in me crumble. Chris was my everything, he was my strength, my hope, my light and above all the father of my unborn child. “Chris” I said this time in a pleading tone.

“You’re not good enough for me” Chris rephrased his words while he stood up, without sparing me a glance he walked out while I tried to reassure myself that this was nothing more than a prank that Chris would come back for me.

I had no idea how long I waited but I hoped Chris would come and say this was all a joke. He was my world, how could I possibly live without him. I felt my legs and hands started to shake while tears clouded my vision, my head started to feel really heavy and I wished I could fall quickly into the peace that I had started to see.

“Sophie” I faintly heard the voice of someone I recognized to be Madam Ella, while her soft firm hands wrapped around my shoulder “Stay with me Sophie” Was the last thing I heard before I finally drawn into the peace I had welcomed.
