Falling For My Rival

Amara’s POV. 

“What are you talking about?” I was looking at the reporters; their gleaming eyes held no secrets, and it was clear as day that the scope they wanted was based on something they heard. 

“Miss Forger, we would love to know if you are okay after finding out that the man you helped get up to the ranks is now engaged to your sister.” 

I was not sure what I heard, but for a split second, I forgot how to breathe. It wasn’t true, it couldn't be. 

I stormed past the reporters, trying to find some air and look for a way to verify if what they were saying was true. 

Suddenly, my phone began ringing. I didn't know who would be calling me repeatedly, but I knew it was something important if they could reach me. 

I took out my phone and saw the ID, Trixie.

I picked up, she wasn't the type of blast my phone's on nights like this. Not on the knight, I was holding the party for a merger that would take my Empire to the high grounds. 

“Hello, Trixie, I can't talk—”

“Amara, head to Wixton’s Homepage. Something is going on, you need to see it!” 

Her voice cracked, laced with a hint of uncertainty, but then, I wasn't in the mood to ignore something like this. 

I opened my browser and headed to the Wixton Homepage, the site responsible for posting all the major events and gossip in the city. And there I saw it, the truth I was trying to avoid. 

The headline read. 

‘Hunter Cruz engaged with Kira Forger…’ 

Another read… 

‘Amara Forger had been grooming the young man for his bride for the past three years!’ 

Yet another one. 

‘She even handed him her Empire; she wanted him to love her.’ 

I couldn't tell what I was feeling; it was a mixture of hate, rage, and confusion. I didnt even know where I would find them, and this was something huge. 

My phone rang again, not letting it go on. I picked up the call.  

“Trixie, I have seen the news, but—” 

“Miss Forger, this is Walter. I need you to come to the company’s resort!” 

“Walter?” I couldn't even think clearly, but I was sure that my advisor wouldn't tell me to come to the company’s resort like that if there wasn't something going on. 

“I will be there in five minutes…” 

Shoving my phone into my purse, I zoomed past a horde of reporters rushing to my car. 

“Miss Forger, can we have a word with you…”

I ignored them, firing up the engine, I zoomed out of the venue. The only place I wanted to be was the company resort. I needed answers, I needed to know what was going on. 

I spent the past six years loving Cruz with all my heart. He was the only one I saw as a partner and lover who couldn't do anything to hurt me. 

‘This has to be a joke, he would never do anything to hurt me!’ 

I didnt believe that in any reality he would do something to hurt me, it wasn't possible and never would be.

Zooming past almost every vehicle, I got to the company resort in ten minutes. I left my purse in the car, trying to get my head clear before I stepped in. But I could already see that there was a party being held inside. Slowly walking in, I could see him standing on the podium holding Kira by the waist. 

My world came crashing down, so it was true…

 I thought it was only a joke, but this wasn't a joke. It was true, he had a smug look on his face. He had the balls to even stand there and look down on the people.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I am thrilled to announce that I am now the official managing Partner of Emerald Hearts. My beloved and I will be getting married soon so—” 

“What the fuck is going on here?!” 

My voice echoed through the halls. Everyone turned to look at me, my eyes filled with rage. 

Hunter turned to me, a smile on his face. He then began talking again. “Ahh, Miss Amara. I didnt even expect to see you here so soon, but now you're here. I would love if you would be a darling and share your thoughts on the future of the company. Even though you dont hold much ground anymore, you are still important to us.” 

I slowly walked up to him, my legs were heavy, almost like the earth was pulling me back. 

“Hunter….What is going on?” I was still in doubt, silently praying that everything was a dream. “Tell me all this is some sick joke, we are meant to be at the Clearview Hotel to finalize the Honston Merger, why are you here?” 

Hunter nodded with a smile still on his face, and he placed the glass in his hands. 

“You know, I thought you could understand things you read but I didnt know you were so naive but I will explain it in details so your slow brain will understand.”  

His tone, the way he spoke to me was different. This wasnt the Hunter I knew, it was someone else. 

“Hunter….” I muttered slowly as I watched him walk up to me, with a smile still on his face. 

He stood right in front of me, his eyes bearing pure hate and resentment. 

“I never loved you, Amara. I only saw our relationship as a way for me to climb to the top and a way for me to get close to Kira. She was the one I loved all those times.” 

I couldn't believe my ears. Looking at him, I couldn't bring myself to believe it. 

“So, all those years, all those moments we had, and you can tell me that you felt nothing? You said that you loved me, and once this merger was over, you would marry me.” 

I was looking at him, my heart still in disbelief. 

Hunter shrugged. He turned to look at Kira, then back to me. 

“I needed to say anything that would make a love-struck puppy like you stay in place, and you were a fool to believe it for that long. Well, I wouldn't blame you. You were in love, and there wasn't a thing you could see or hear. I had you dancing to my tunes.” 

He spoke slowly, looking at me with a look in his eyes. 

I was not even sure how it was possible; this wasn't a dream. I was in a nightmare, one I needed to wake up from! 

“That’s it, you are out of my company! Nothing is going to hold us together!” I was in rage, I could still try and fight him off. 

“Aww, the little puppy can't even read. I thought they named the strongest and toughest lady in the business chain. But I never knew you didnt know you couldn't read.” 

He mocked me, and I turned to look at him, trying to get a clearer view of what he was trying to say. 

“What?” 

“Oh, darling, Amara, what my beloved is trying to say is that you no longer have the power to throw him out of the company, since you signed over 89% of it to him.” 

Kira muttered happily while coming closer to Hunter, who turned and pulled her by the waist. Kissing her, before turning back to me. 

“Ah, yes, you are no longer the one calling the shots. I am, so I wouldn't—” 

Before he could finish talking, I slapped him across the face, blinded by rage. 

“What in the world?!” Kira yelled, she looked at me, and she could see the anger in my soul. “Security! Security!” 

I didnt waste time pulling her by the hair, trying to yank her down; she wasn't going to take everything from me in one night and live through it. 

But before I could do anything more to her, I felt firm hands pulling me away. The security men were there already, and they began pulling me away. I screamed as they pulled me out of the hall. 

“Hunter! I fucking hate you! I will make sure you pay for this! I will make sure!”
