ALANNA

My heart starts to beat faster, my stomach churning uneasily. The king sits up, his burning gaze intense. I swallow hard, my gaze rooted to the floor. I have just committed a crime. What's my punishment? What if they decide to whip me a hundred times? What if I'm going to be thrown into a furnace? "I'm s-so s-s sorry, I shouldn't have c-come h-here. P-please don't be mad at me. I'll be g-good from now on" I stutter, tears blurring my vision. I'm panicking too much to even notice that the king has gotten out of bed and is now standing right in front of me with his robe untied. I don't notice his presence until I perceive the sweet smell of roses and lavenders. Oh my God. What smells so good? Someone touches my chin, caressing it a little. Slowly, my head is tipped back and my gaze locks with the king's heated gaze. I shiver, biting my lower lip."Curious, are we?" He smirks. His voice is like velvet. His voice is so smooth, I could listen to him speak forever.

He's beautiful. Overwhelmingly beautiful. And he smells so damn good. His long eyelashes are nothing like those of humans. They are long, thick and so dark. His skin glows beautifully and he reeks of dominance and power. Everyone in the room watches silently, perhaps waiting for his verdict on my punishment."Cat got your tongue, love?" He says, raising one elegant brow.

"N-no, I- I d-didnt mean t-to c-come h-here. I-I j-just wanna go home" I say, my voice hoarse. He squints his eyes, looking thoughtful. In a split second, he's vanished from my side and in the next second, he's sitting on the bed, legs crossed at the ankles. "Valdrin" he says, not taking his eyes off me. "Sire"

"Take her back to her Chambers" he orders and there's immediately an outburst of whispering and grumblings among the maids and guards. "Silence!" The king orders, his eyes narrowed into thin slits. "She is human but she is my responsibility. She must be treated rightly or I'll feed you to the dragons" "We're s-sorry, sire" they chorus, trembling in his presence. "You're dismissed" he says and they nod quickly, walking away. Valdrin suddenly appears right beside me, leading me out of the king's chamber.

"I knew you would find your way to the king's chamber" he says, amused. Wait, a minute. He knew. He had planned it. He'd wanted me to come there, but why? "It was you. You sent the guards away and allowed me to get to the king's chamber" I say and he smirks. "Aha, we've got a winner" he says, clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth. "Why did you do that?" I ask when we get to my chamber. He remains silent, watching me carefully. "I can't stay here. I have to go home. I don't belong here, Valdrin. Why am I even here? I'm tired of not knowing what's actually going on" I say, pinching the bridge of my nose. "Are you even listening to me? I need to leave!" I yell, moving towards the door. He grabs my arm, spinning me around to face him. His eyes have turned cold. He's furious, I can tell.

"You saw him, didn't you? He's dying, you know. He knows it. We all know it. You are here for a reason. Stop being stubborn! Stay here! He needs you. If anything happens to my best friend, I'll hold you responsible because you didn't do what you were supposed to do. If he dies, I'll kill you myself. Just so you know, his life is in your hands" with that said, he storms out of the room, his eyes burning with fury. What's going on?

It's not like I'm a cure to the king's sickness. What am I missing here? I need answers!

Exhausted, I collapse on the bed. With several thoughts clouding my mind, I doze off.

ZERON

"Zeron, I can't continue to watch you suffer. You need to find the cure before it's too late. You don't even have a heir. Who would take over if you die? I can't loose you. I'm terrified" my mother says to me, tears freely flowing down her cheeks. I close my eyes, ignoring the intense pain in my bones. I want to tell her that I've finally found my cure. I want to tell her that I'll be fine but I know her so well. She'll go too hard on the human and force her to do whatever it takes to make me feel better."You aren't saying anything. Should I get the healers?" She asks, brushing my hair away from my face."N-no, I'm fine" I respond, wincing slightly. Brows creased, she reaches out to place a hand on my forehead. "Your fever is worsening" she rasps.

"Come to think of it, I've had this fever for centuries" I comment flatly.

"It doesn't mean you should get used to it" she snaps. "I want to be alone" I say.

"Ze-"I grimace, clutching my chest.

"I said, I want to be alone" I snap.

"Okay, if that's what you want" she sighs and leaves my room. I cough, grimacing at the taste of blood in my mouth. The witch. She's responsible for this. That heartless old hag.

****

A few hours after my mom has left the room, I decide to go to the gardens and perhaps, know the human better. Valdrin walks into my room. "You called me, sire" "Get the girl. Take her to the garden. I'll be there soon" "Okay" he says and leaves my chamber. Slowly but steadily, I walk out of my chambers. Zylon, one of my personal guards joins me as I approach the hallway.

"The human girl seems terrified" he comments.

"Of course, she should be. She's in a completely different world. A world she hadn't known exists" The human is pacing back and forth in the garden when I get there. She looks very nervous. I can't help but stare at her. She's such a beauty. She notices my presence and stiffens, her gaze rooted to the ground. I lower myself onto the chair in the garden. Then, she stares at me, shifting her weight to her right leg. When our gazes meet, her cheeks turn pink and she drops her gaze. "You called me" she says, avoiding my gaze. "Sit" I say. Hesitantly, she sits down beside me. "I know you have plenty of questions, you can ask away" I say, rolling my royal signet around my finger."Why am I here? Are you really dying? Am I a cure or something? When can I go home?-" "Slow down. I can't answer your questions at the same time. What's your name?" I say. "Alanna...... what's yours?" She says, cautiously. "Zeron"

"I guess, that would be King Zeron" she says slowly. I stare at her, amused.

"First of all, you're here for a very crucial reason" I say and she frowns, eyes wide. "Am I some sort of sacrificial object for some sort of ritual?" She asks and I give her a blank stare.

"Centuries ago, I was cursed" I say and she freezes, her eyes going wide.

"Who......cursed you?" she breathes and I clench my fist.

"I was just a child. My father had a visitor that night. Her name was Lady Rohanne. She was the only surviving witch of the Nazyr Clan; the ancient bloodline of powerful witches. She came to the palace claiming that she was pregnant. She claimed that her child was my father's because she wanted to be a queen at all cost. A heated argument then ensured between her and my father" I tell her as I turn to look at her.

"What happened next?" Alanna asks with a frown on her face.

"I came into my dad's chamber and she placed a hex on me" her eyes widen, her face turning pale.

  • Falling For The Demon King   EPILOGUE

Time flies rather so quickly and as the years go by, I'm grateful that I was gifted the chance to experience true happiness with my husband. It's amazing how much my husband has changed within the past few years. He shows more emotions and when I see him laugh, smile or even cry tears of joy, there's an overwhelming rush of ecstasy that washes over me. Sometimes, his emotions gets shuttered, but that only happens in rare occasions. I can remember, clear as day, what happened the night our first born child was brought into the world of magic. I remember falling into labor while I was in the tea room with Azalea. Our son indeed gave me a tough time during labour, but at exactly midnight, Kyraz was born. Zeron had been by my side all through my labour but as soon as he saw the baby, he took off. I was worried that something was wrong with my baby but Albina assured me that my baby was perfectly fine. Zeron was apparently feeling emotions that were probably t

  • Falling For The Demon King   THIRTY

ZERON Lying in bed with pain coursing through every inch of my body, I close my eyes, trying not to give in to the pain. It's been a while since I felt like this and it's strange how I've almost forgotten what it felt like. I don't know if I'm hurting more because of Alanna's absence or maybe I'm just hurting because I'm really trying hard not to loose control. One slip up and I'll literally become a maniac who wouldn't be able to tell the difference between those who are with him and those who are against him. But now that I think of it, what's the point in holding back?Alanna's gone, probably gone forever and she's not here to keep me sane. I can pretend for as long as I want to but the truth is that I'm loosing control. For all it's worth, with me fully immersed in darkness, Lochan wouldn't stand a chance against me, so why fight the only thing that I have left? Taking a deep breath, I s

  • Falling For The Demon King   TWENTY NINE

ALANNA The tiger gem begins to glow brightly, the palm of my hand barely containing it's radiant light. "How do we use this?" I ask Azalea who quietly takes out a knife. "Here, the tiger gem can only be activated by non-magic users. Your blood just needs to make contact with the gem" she replies, maintaining eye contact with me. "Okay" I breathe and quickly make a cut on my palm. As soon as it begins to bleed, I tighten my injured hand into a fist, positioning it directly above the gem. The gem begins to glow even brighter as soon as my blood makes contact with it. Then, all of a sudden, the whole place begins to turn grey, then white. Finally, we find ourselves standing in a field of Jasmine flowers. Standing few metres away is a very old man with wrinkles on his face and a bald head. Judging from the cloak he's wearing, he must be Azeroth's guardian. He has a grim look on his face and he

  • Falling For The Demon King   TWENTY EIGHT

ZERON Dread sinks into my heart like the cold blade of a dagger at the thought of Alanna being in grave danger. Could it be that Valdrin had taken my wife with him? Or worse still, had Lochan succeeded in taking her away from me? No, no, this can't be happening. Talon shifts his weight to his left leg, his gaze refusing to meet mine. Now that I think about it, there's an air of uneasiness around him. It's almost as if-- he knows something about Alanna's disappearance. "I want to be alone" I say and the rest of the guards leaves the chamber. Just as Talon starts to leave, I stop him."Talon, I believe we have something to talk about" I say and he stiffens. Slowly, he turns to look at me. "What is going on, Talon?" I demand and he lowers his gaze, an air of remorse around him. This doesn't help with my growing frustration. Now, I'm definitely sure of the fact that he knows somethi

ALANNA Azeroth generally looks like a large swamp with overgrown mangroves. This place is very creepy and even the slightest sound is enough to send shivers down my spine."Are we really in the right plane? This place looks like a swamp to me" Azalea says as she draws out her sword."We don't know what to expect around here, so we have to be careful" I say as I unsheathe Zeron's sword. It is a bronze colored sword with a jeweled silver handle. I've only seen him with the sword a few times and I'd taken it with me in case I needed to defend myself. "Come on, let's get going" Azalea says and I frown."How do we know where the seal is, exactly? We just can't go walking around until nightfall" I say and Azalea smiles."You don't have to worry about that" "What do you mean? Do you have a map with you or something" I ask and she takes out a piece of paper from her bag. Then she unfolds

  • Falling For The Demon King   TWENTY SIX

ALANNA "What's going on?" I ask Azalea the next morning, seeing as the palace seems to have been thrown into confusion. "Zylon was poisoned. He was found dead in his cell this morning" she responds."Poisoned? What's really going on? Queen Tiana lost her life, then Taera was murdered, now this?" I say and Azalea sighs."I think whoever poisoned Zylon didn't want him to let anyone know who the real culprit is" "But the coven elders can still figure it out by using a spell, right?" I ask and she nods. "We need to leave the palace by tonight. Since Azeroth is a different plane, it would be daytime over there by the time it's nightfall over here" Azalea says. "How are we supposed to leave the palace without alerting Zeron or any of the guards?" I ask."You have to be careful enough not to wake Zeron up when you get out of bed. Also, there's a secret passage in the library

  • Falling For The Demon King   TWENTY FIVE

ZERON Alanna is hiding something from me and I don't know what it is, but I'm certain that she has decided to keep it to herself. Maybe it's because of the way I'd reacted when I'd found out that she knew about Lochan sharing my life force with me. I'm trying not to get upset about the fact that she doesn't trust me enough to confide in me but I'm failing miserably. I can only hide the hurt and frustration I feel with a blank face, with the hope that Alanna won't see right through it. Who am I kidding?I'm a hypocrite. I've been hiding things from her too.I just hope she doesn't do anything stupid."Zeron?" I blink and turn away from the window of my chamber."Are you alright?" Talon asks but I don't respond. "You know, all you have to do is respond" He huffs and I walk away from him and sit down on the couch. "Is there something you want to talk to me about?" I ask and he sighs."

  • Falling For The Demon King   TWENTY FOUR

ALANNA "We need to act quickly, Alanna. If he finds out-" Azalea begins but is interrupted by an all too familiar voice that belongs to my husband. "Find out what?" He asks and we all freeze.Just how much did he hear?"Z?" I say but he just stares at me blankly."Um, how long have you been standing there?" I ask and he blinks."I just got here but that doesn't matter anyway. What are the three of you hiding from me?"Now at this point, I have no idea what to do. Do I lie to him or do I tell him the dreadful truth? With his face all blank and expressionless, it's hard to tell if he'd lied. What if he'd actually overhead everything and is counting on me not to lie to his face? But still, what if he's telling the truth?"Has all of you suddenly become dumb?" Zeron asks, placing the bowl of winter berries

  • Falling For The Demon King   TWENTY THREE

HERA Humming under my breath, I take my time to water the emerald gold flowers in the coven room. They are ordinarily called the peace and well being flowers and they're the ones partly responsible for keeping war away from our kingdom for quite a long time now. I halt at the presence of prince Talon's aura approaching the coven room. Few minutes later, he knocks on the door and I open it up with a snap of my fingers. He gives me a polite smile and walks up to me. I can tell by reading his energy, that he's deeply troubled about something but he's doing a good job at covering whatever it is with several layers."Good day, Hera" he greets and I give him a smile."Good day, young prince" I say and he looks around the coven room."The peace flowers don't look as healthy as they looked before" he comments and I sigh."It appears so""You know what this means, right?" He says and I
