Alessandro took a deep breath, his gaze softening as he spoke of a time long past. “Chiara… she was the most beautiful, kind, and intelligent woman I ever met, Daisy. We were… we were deeply in love. We wanted to get married. We had planned a life together.” He paused, his voice tinged with sadness. “But our parents were against our union.
