Son of a leader

CHAPTER 4

Son of a Leader.

Two years later...

So I, the unnamed decided to visit fang city. It had been twelve years since Zara died, and Raymond was yet to re-marry or get a hand of his wife's killer so he didn't think it was safe to start another family when the killer was still out there roaming about unhurt in his territory.

Raymond hadn't relented on finding the killer, he had gotten several head-ups on suspects but every time, it came crashing into a dead end. It was like someone was intentionally messing with him_ The council? Maybe, I can't tell, but I can tell you Regal was now sixteen years old, and he was quite a beauty!

Here at Fang city empire, it was just daybreak, and everywhere was already bustling with life, the citizens were moving up and down. some trying to sell their goods, others trying to buy one thing or the other. Either way, they moved here and there satisfying their needs. Most of them walked just like human beings with a few exceptions, running very fast, probably trying to meet up with something or someone.

The empire would probably pass for a human habitant if not for these few exceptions who were displaying super ability as they ran and jumped.

Raymond, sat on his throne wearing a very tense expression. The palace hall had a magnificent interior, sparkles here and there with gigantic statues of different shapes and sizes. The place was lit!

They were also different pots of plants, some were pretty flowers, and others were irregular plants, which were intentionally placed at specific locations for different purposes. Some were to conceal the wrecking smell of animal blood which they consumed and some, were just there for beauty, herbs, and even the vampire body smell concealer.

"Hi, dad, Regal greeted as he almost walked past his dad. "come over here, young man" Raymond commanded, "have you forgotten your manners, you don't know how to greet your leader anymore, I might be your dad, but am also your leader, don't treat me so casually", He ordered. Regal rolled his eyes before turning around to face his dad, growing up without a mother, he had always been carefree with his dad so 'why was his 'old man' making a fuss out of it only now?' He thought'

"My apologies, Greetings to you the great leader and king of the vampires, and good morning to you dad", Regal said reluctantly, "Good morning to you son", Raymond replied " come over here, I have something to say, it's been on my mind for a while now," Raymond said as he gestured to a chair close to him "Yes dad", Regal replied as he walked over and sat down, in his father's majestic style.

"Son, you are sixteen years now, and I want you to start the vampire training school by next week. You are way past the normal age of twelve when every vampire child should have started training.

I had intentionally let you have your way all this while because I know how hard it is for you growing up without your mother, I wanted to let you be, to make you happy, with the hope that by the time you mix with your peers you would see reasons on your own why you need to train but I think it's high time I make you do this whether you like it or not" Raymond said sternly. He took a pause and then a deep breath before continuing.

"You are the incoming king of our empire, you need to learn to defend yourself and our people", Raymond said as he paused waiting to hear the response of his son.

Regal nodded his head occasionally as his dad spoke like he was seriously considering what his father was saying, he looked at his father as he stopped talking and when he saw he was done talking, he took a long thoughtful breath, like, he had properly figured everything out.

He looked straight at his dad who was expecting the most wonderful answer, but to his father's disappointment he dropped the most stupid thing king Raymond had ever heard, "Dad, why do I need to do all those hard work, training, winding powers, am the king's son? I don't want or have to do all that! The bodyguards are there for that", Regal shrugged.

"Son!" Raymond snapped as his face followed with a scowl of disappointment. "The bodyguards are there to protect, but you are to lead and in case you don't know, 'the best way to lead is by example, I will have no son of mine behave irresponsibly!" "Okay dad, I have heard you" Regal reluctantly replied as he just wanted to be dismissed.

It wasn't like he didn't feel for his dad who was trying his best as a single parent, it's just that he just wanted to be free of responsibility for now.

Since he was young, he had watched his dad leave the palace almost every time, to fight stray vampires and any other thing that threatened to destroy their kingdom. He rarely got to spend time with his dad, and even when he was around, he was only there in words, at first, it had been hard, he missed his mom, who he barely had any more memories of, but later, he began to learn not to care. He mixed with anyone ready to offer him company.

His father shouldered a lot of responsibility, he was a hero! And he knew all those responsibilities were coming for him, he was afraid to disappoint all those expecting so much from him and felt he couldn't be like his dad, strong, fearless, and bold.

Sure, those duties, would be passed to him in the future, but for now, he just wanted to have fun, enjoy being a youth, and not worry about anything, before they place this burden of leadership on him.

Yeah, enjoying his youth was far more important than staying here and having this head-to-head talk as his father would call it. Left to him he would rather describe most of their talks as 'argument'.

Anyway, back to the far more important things. He had to meet up with his friends by moonlight, they were going to have a fistfight, (which they also called manpower) and the loser got to buy drinks all through the night till they were all satisfied.

He had no plans of even winning the fistfight, he wasn't as strong as his friends and he saw no reasons to try to be, for now, he had money so why not just stay busy flaunting it? He just wanted to hang out with his friends, girls, and anyone who cared to hang out with him.

Regal always had his ways with women. He was rich! For crying out_ the one and only prince of the vampire empire. One would tell he was very good-looking without even making an effort to outline his features.

He was tall for his age, had a good broad shoulder, with long golden hair like his father. His eyes had the depth and color of the blue sea and his skin shone as polished ebony (his skin color wasn't quite rampant amongst the vampire clan) He had an oblong face and a well-constructed chin. In all, his checkmark for good looks is what I call excellent!

Although whenever Regal canvased into his vampire form he looked quite heinous and deadly but still cute all at once, how could one look so good always! But, on seeing his vampire, you would think that he was super strong without knowing that compared to vampires his age, he was an amateur. He couldn't even kill a rabbit. Anyway, not for so long. I hope!
