KIMBERLY’S POV

Morning came too soon.

The sunlight crept through the curtains, falling across the bedsheets tangled around my legs. For a moment, I didn’t move. I just watched Julius lying beside me, his back turned, shoulders tense even in sleep.

My chest felt tight. He used to sleep with his arm over me, holding me close like he never wanted to let go. But now it was like there was a wall between us. I already knew it would take more than spending just one night together before things went back to normal between us again, but I was willing to try until he forgave me.

I reached out, fingers brushing the edge of the blanket near his arm. “Julius?” I whispered.

He stirred, then sat up abruptly. The look on his face wasn’t soft or warm. It was distant, almost cold.

“You need to go,” he said quietly, running a hand through his wet hair.

I blinked, confused. “What?”

“Get up and get ready before someone sees you in here again,” he said more firmly. “Get dressed and leave.”

ANGELA’S POVAaron didn’t take me back to our rooms. Instead, he led me through a maze of quiet hallways, his silence a steady thing beside me. We ended up in his private study. It was all dark wood and tall shelves, the air smelling of old books and that clean scent of his. He guided me to a leather chair near the empty fireplace and knelt in front of me, his hands wrapping around mine.“Breathe, Angela,” he said, his voice low and firm. “Just breathe.”I tried. The air came in ragged at first, but slowly it evened out. The sharp shock was fading, leaving something hollow and clear behind. The ghost had a name now. She had a history, one tied right to my own blood. Kimberly wasn’t just some jealous ex-friend. She was my father’s secret. His living regret. And she’d turned all that pain into a weapon.“All this time,” I whispered, looking down at our hands. “He was so good to her. I thought it was just kindness, you know? Because she was my best friend. Or some old sense of duty. But

ANGELA’S POV“You hate me.” The words left my mouth, and I heard them as if from a distance. It wasn’t a question anymore, just a cold fact settling in. “This isn’t about something I did without knowing, is it? You just hate me.”“Very perceptive,” she sneered.A sharp, hot frustration sliced through the calm I was trying to hold. Was this all just some twisted echo from the past? “Is this about Julius again?” His name felt like ash on my tongue. “I don’t want him. You can have him, I mean it. Is that what this is?”For a long second, Kimberly just stared. Then she threw her head back and laughed. It was a raw, ugly sound that bounced off the sterile walls and made my skin crawl. What could possibly be so funny? Her laughter changed, curdling into something bitter as her eyes locked on me again. “Julius? You think this is about that annoying pup?” She shook her head, a smile still twisting her lips. “Julius has nothing to do with anything. The hatred I have for you, Angela, is so much

Angela’s POV“Not today,” he said finally, his voice rough. “You will rest. You will heal. You will eat everything Elara puts in front of you. And when she tells me you can stand on your feet without swaying, when your mind is clear and your strength is back, then I will take you to her myself. You will ask your questions. And I will be the wall between you and her venom. Do you understand?”It was a compromise, forged in the fires of his fear and my resolve. It was permission, and it was a plan.“Yes,” I whispered. The tension drained from me, leaving only exhaustion and a fragile, burgeoning peace. He pulled me closer, his forehead resting against mine. “We face our ghosts together,” he murmured. “But we do it on our terms. When you’re ready.”I nestled back against him, and the hard knot of unresolved terror in my chest began, for the first time, to loosen. The war outside was coming. But first, there was a quieter, more personal reckoning to be had. For the first time since the fe

ANGELA’S POVAaron’s heartbeat was steady against my ear, marking the slow minutes. The pain in my head had settled into a dull ache, softened by the warmth of him. But I couldn’t sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Kimberly’s smile in the crowd, not the crazed sneer from the room, but that polite, empty smile she wore just before everything shattered. The bond between us hummed with his quiet, strategic fury. I could feel it churning beneath the calm he was holding onto for my sake. Plans forming, contingencies weighed, threats sorted and ranked. It was a cold and efficient fire, and I was its hearth.“You’re thinking too loud,” I murmured into his sweater. His chest moved with a sound that wasn’t quite a laugh. “Impossible. My thoughts are very quiet and orderly.”“Liar.” I tilted my head back carefully to look at him. His gaze was fixed on the far wall, seeing maps instead of plaster, patrol routes and weak points. The green of his eyes had cooled from a fractured emerald to

ANGELA’S POVMom gasped, clutching my hand. “Sweetheart, what is it? Is the pain worse?”I shook my head. Tears leaked from the corners of my eyes, hot and silent. “She was supposed to be gone,” I whispered. My voice was raw with a grief I thought I’d buried. “I changed everything. But she… she’s still here.”Rainey’s face contorted with fury. “She won’t be for long. Aaron has her. He’ll make sure she never hurts anyone again.”But that was the other half of it, the chilling truth I could barely hold in my hands. Last time, I’d died alone on a rooftop. This time, I’d woken up in a soft bed, with my family around me and the fierce, protective pulse of my mate’s bond thrumming in my chest.I hadn’t just changed my fate. I’d armed myself.Kimberly might have been an unchanging constant, a venomous thread in the tapestry. But I was no longer the same fabric. I was stronger now. Protected. Loved. This time, she wasn’t just facing a lonely, betrayed woman. She was facing a King. The thought

  • Fate Or Mates   0153: New Life, Same Bull

Angela’s POV"I need to see him," I said. I tried to push myself up on my elbows. The room swooped dangerously around me."Absolutely not," Elara said, her voice firm. She pressed a gentle hand to my shoulder. "You are on strict bed rest for the next twenty-four hours. Any sudden movement could make things worse." Her expression softened. "He will be in the second your body is stable enough to handle his energy, Luna. I promise you that. Right now, his anger would be a storm in this room, and your mind needs calm."She was right. I could feel the storm in him through the bond, even muted. I sank back against the pillows. The fight drained out of me, replaced by a weary, aching kind of fear.Kimberly was here. The past wasn’t just a memory. It was in the dungeon below, and it had just declared war on my present. And my father was down there with it.The quiet of the room became a vacuum. It was broken only by Mom’s soft sniffles and the sound of Rainey’s restless shuffling. And into th
