Chapter 21: The Hunter

Charlotte.

"Charlotte, did you just see that?" Kali asked me. I was still in disbelief after what I witnessed. "That guy was fast, almost as fast as..."

"Don't say it," replied Iris; she wasn't happy to see someone rival her speed.

The pack member was bleeding out on the ground as the Hunter stabbed him again, but this time in the knee.

"Haaaaa! Stoppp!" He cried as the pain swirled around his body.

Taking a good look at the sword now, it wasn't ordinary iron; it had a silver glow to it. I have never seen one quite like it.

"Get away from him!" Another member quickly shifted and attacked the stranger, pushing him backward.

 In wolf form, we are approximately twice the same height as we were in human form; we gained a straight boost as well as an increase in speed. I don't think any of the members there had magic, though; it was incredibly rare among us werewolves.

The wolf charged at him again; the hunter then took out some silver spike balls from his bag and threw them on the ground.

The wolf stepped on them and cried in pain while falling over itself. The hunter took the opportunity to stab it in the neck and move on to the rest.

Tim and the other unknown members were tending to the injuries of the first injured guy. Vance and Harmony defended them from the hunter. Taking out his own sword, Vance clashed with the stranger and pushed him back again. Harmony used his head as a springboard and jumped over the Hunter, delivering a strong back kick to his side.

Staggered by this combination, the hunter took out a small black ball and threw it to the ground, covering the area in a smokescreen.

I couldn't see anything through the smoke, but I could hear the screams as clear as ever.

'Howl!' Vance let out a cry that cleared out the smoke, revealing him to have small injuries on his body as well as Harmony.I didn't know Vance had such power; did Adonis have something similar? The thought vanished from my head as quickly as it came, though. Kali was still concentrating hard on the battle while Iris was waiting for the moment to strike.

"Let's run away, I've never seen someone fight like this before!" The last unknown member cried out; he was just a young boy.

"Take him back to the clan; we'll deal with this guy," said Vance as he got up and faced the hunter. He was still in his wolf form, but something about his expression was different.

The boy took the injured man back into the forest.

"Very nice; now after I kill the three of you, all I have to do is follow the trail of blood to your alpha, what a lucky day," the hunter smiled through his mask.

Vance shifted into a red wolf while Harmony decided to stay in her current form and rode on his back as they charged the hunter.

The hunter backed off as Vance tried to bite his head off. Tim ran behind the hunter and blocked his path; he then swung his tail at him and sent him flying. Harmony jumped off of Vance's back and punched the hunter in the air as the two fell to the ground. Backed into a corner, the hunter took out a vial of purple liquid.

"Another smokescreen?" Vance noted; he was then getting prepared to dispel it again, however.

As the vial was thrown to the ground and broken, no smoke came from it; however, the scent it brought was the most horrible thing I've ever smelt in my life. It was like that flower from before but a lot worse; my sisters and I could smell it from all the way behind the trees. And I couldn't imagine what Vance and the others were experiencing because they were all coughing and panting. Tim even vomited because of the stench. Vance's transformation was canceled out, and the hunter kicked his stomach and sent him back. Harmony tried to attack him while holding her nose, but the hunter quickly hit her with a haymaker and knocked her out. He turned his sights towards Tim, who was wobbling on all fours, just barely keeping up his wolf form. The hunter slashed at his back numerous times and left him as he shifted back into a human.

"Now then, I'll be off to hunt that alpha," he tried to follow the path of blood but Vance stood up again.

"Over my dead body!"

The Hunter hissed and ran towards Vance with his sword raised, and at that moment.

"Hyah!" Iris headbutted the hunter with a lightning-charged tackle. He fell over, and her gray wolf form slid on the ground.

"Hahaha, what a sorry state you're in," Kali laughed at Vance as she joined Iris. The two she-wolves faced the hunter.

"More wolves, I knew I sensed two more from the forest, but I had hoped you'd run off. I want to kill an alpha, not you small fries," the hunter hissed again.

"Small fries?! You think you're a little strong just because you're a little fast. I'll show you who's the fastest!" Iris charged at him, and the two began fighting.

Kali shot out some water balls at him, but he swiftly dodged them.

I wanted to go in after them, but I couldn't see an opening to attack. Should I transform? No, not yet at least. From watching the fight so far, I think it's best to stay as a human. I rushed in and quickly got behind the hunter as Iris was about to shoot out an electric roar. However, what happened next really surprised me."Look out!" He shouted and shoved me out of the way.

Iris's attack landed and damaged his armor severely.

"A... A human here? Get away from here before these wolves attack you again!" He yelled at me.

"Human?" I was so confused; he thought I was human?
