“If you leave now, I promise not to tell anyone about this. Just please leave" I cried in front of him, begging him to leave. "I am tired, don't you see? I love you to death but still beg you to leave, so please do it, please!" He was staring at me, not saying a word. "Go away!""Okay, fine, I'll go. But if you tell anyone I'll kill you, Kiara!"With those words, he disappeared.2 years laterI was sitting in a café, talking with Lana- my best friend, since I've known myself."So, it has been a while. Any boyfriends or new friends?" She asked me while taking hercoffee from the waiter's hands."No, not really. After Finn, I don't think I'm ready for a new relationship."I took a sip of my coffee."Are you ever gonna tell me what happened?" Lana looked at me, hoping I'd spill some words.I just shook my head. I didn't want anyone to know what happened between me and Finn. I've never spoken to anyone about it before and I don't think I'm ready, yet.Four men in black entered the café. They all were wearing sunglasses. Two of them were standing in front of the others. I think those were the bosses. The one I could see more clearly was very masculine and tall, he had black hair and a little beard, and the other one looked almost the same but didn't have that many muscles. The first one pulled out a big, black gun and pointed it our way."Lana, go under the table, now!" I grabbed her hand and pulled her to follow me.We found a little white table, next to a large window and hid under it, hoping to stay alive. After a second, we heard a loud noise. A man, probably in his 60's fell to the ground. I screamed and Lana put her hand on my mouth."Shh, be quiet!""Find her!" we heard a deep, strange voice, yelling at someone.Soon a very tall, muscular man started walking. I could see his big footsteps under thetable. Lana and I were crying our eyes out. After, he stopped at our table. The big, tall mancrunched down."Found her, boss!"He was looking at me.He grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to him, I screamed and told him to put me down, but he didn't listen."Hi, Kiara! You're coming with us." He smiled and looked at my pale face. What? How does he know my name, first, and where the hell is he taking me?"Put me down!" I punched his strong back."That's not gonna happen, young lady." said the 'Boss' and made me face him. He had verydark brown eyes, almost black, and his face looked very serious. They put me in a black, big car. I had to stay next to the big, tall men. While I was sitting in the car I thought how your life can fall apart within five minutes. Why? Since I’ve been a baby my life has been awful! My father was an alcoholic and he got drunk every other day, which made him hit my mother regularly, but she was a strong woman and always tried to see him for his good side and never for his bad one. Even though I tried to convince her to leave him, she never did. Maybe it was because we were going to be alone with no money or a place we could stay. Maybe because she was in love with him. I never got the answer to that question, because she died in a car accident with my father.I felt tears coming in my eyes, but hopefully, they called my name to tell me that we had just arrived. It wasn’t a house, it was a whole mansion. It had a fountain, a huge garage, and a garden. The house was creamy white and black."Come on. My brother will show you around." said the muscular, tall bossy man."I don't want you to show me anything, I wanna go home!" I yelled."Do as you're told, little bird." he smiled and stroked my chin. I looked at him disgusted."Don’t call me that."“I’ll call you whatever I want. Now go with my brother, Vincent." He pointed at the other man, who wasgetting out of the car behind us. Vincent came to me and told me to follow him, so I did."Why me? Why am I here? What am I supposed to do?" I asked confused."Because Tom liked you." He looked at me like I was asking some dumb questions."So that's his name - Tom?""Yes, Tom Barton. I am Vincent Barton. We are the biggest mafia here. I cannot tell youmore."We went into the house. It was huge! There were stairs and an elevator. When I enteredthe big door, I saw a small table with a vase with flowers in it."Follow me. "We went left. There was a big room with a television, sofa, fireplace, two chairs from the bigand comfortable ones and a large black carpet. The walls were white with black paint."This is the living room. We don't stay in here too much, because Tom and I are usually inthe office"We left the room and went upstairs. After two doors we stopped and entered a room thatwas twice my apartment. The bed was very big, I had my own bathroom, and I even had a dressing room. The walls were creamy white with a little bit of brown. The bathroom was white, too. There was a desk and a dressing table, a huge mirror where I could see my whole body, and there were flowers all over the windows, too."This is your room. You can change whatever you want. Make yourself home."Then we went to the last room. Vincent said that the other rooms weren't important."The last room is Tom's office, no one can go there, only if it's really important. If you needanything, you call Ms. Betty. She's the housekeeper.""When will I be able to leave? I want to go home.""You are not leaving. You're staying here" he laughed."You can't make me stay here! I have other responsibilities. I have work, friends, family, life!""You do not have work anymore, honey. Tom relieved you of all duties. You will still see yourfamily and friends. But now you stay here. That's your new home. And you can't escape."I was too stunned to speak. I just wanted to go back to my room. I felt like my whole life broke into pieces. I had career aspirations, but now everything is gone. How am I going to tell my parents, about all of this?Kiara's POV I stepped into the house, the cool silence of the kitchen wrapping around me like a thick blanket. The glass of water I poured seemed to do little to ease the tightness in my chest, the unease gnawing at the edges of my thoughts. Why would Tom let his people do such a thing? The question circled in my mind, unanswered, as his actions played out repeatedly in my head. What was he trying to prove? He wanted me to be one of them—one of those soldiers, obedient and silent, trapped in his web of control. But I wasn’t one of them, and he knew that. His efforts to break me only pushed me farther away, showing me the kind of person he truly was—a man to be feared, not trusted. I couldn’t understand what he thought he could win, but I could feel the weight of his power pressing down on me, reminding me that in his world, submission was the only choice.I turned to put the cup of water back in the sink, but the moment I moved, I saw him—Tom—standing just inches away from me. His pr
Tom's POVAs soon as the clock struck two hours after I dropped Kiara off at her old apartment, a rush of urgency surged through me. I climbed into my car, the engine roaring to life, and pressed the accelerator, desperate to reach her. The thought of her wandering out there without me consumed my mind, igniting a wild mix of anger and anxiety within me. Although I had dispatched my bodyguards to keep an eye on her, I couldn’t shake the feeling of mistrust. I had learned the hard way that relying on others often led to disappointment. Life felt like an endless nightmare, indifferent to our struggles, relentlessly pushing and tearing us down. Yet amidst this chaos, I understood one crucial truth: I held the reins of my own destiny. It was within my power to tip the scales for better or worse. In the grand tapestry of existence, we’re faced with choices at every turn, and how we navigate those choices is entirely up to us. The weight of that realization settled on me - I was my saviour
Kiara's POVPhone rings''Yes?'' I said, putting on my red lipstick.''Hey, Ki. I've almost finished work, are you ready?"''Yes, I-'' Fuck, she doesn't know about this. ''I have to... I spilled coffee on my shirt, I have to pick a new one, I'll call you later.'' I couldn't tell her I no longer lived in this apartment on the phone. I hung up and grabbed my Birkin. As I made my way downstairs, I caught sight of Tom standing there, his gaze fixed on me with an intensity that made my heart race. His eyes sparkled with admiration, and I could sense a flicker of desire simmering beneath the surface. A warm rush of satisfaction washed over me; I had anticipated this reaction all along, which was precisely why I had chosen to dress in such an alluring way. The fabric hugged my curves, and with each step, I could feel the weight of his attention, a silent affirmation of my effect on him. I loved that.As I approached him, his look started to change into a more serious face. "You are not going
Kiara's POVWhen I woke up this morning, the first thing I did was reach for my phone, and my thoughts were already on the day ahead. Without wasting a moment, I texted Lana, asking her when were and where we planning to meet, eager to finalize my plans.Within minutes, Lana replied, suggesting we meet at 3 p.m. in front of my apartment- well, my old apartment, to be exact. She said that she had some plans for the evening, so she wanted to see me earlier. Once we were together, she said, we could figure out where to go from there. It felt strange, knowing I'd be waiting in front of a place that used to be mine until Tom came into my life, but I pushed the thought aside and focused on our upcoming plans.I made my way to Tom's office, ready to update him on the schedule. As I reached his door I paused for a moment before knocking. After a few seconds, the door swung open, revealing Tom standing there, dressed casually yet still polished enough for a work setting. His eyes met mine, and
Kiara's POV After Tom's warning, I didn't feel particularly phased. I wasn't feeling up for an argument, so I opted to stay silent. I was aware that he was convinced I wouldn't heed his advice. It wasn't my intention to provoke his anger; I was acting based on my own frustration at the time.At the moment I was getting ready to settle in for the night, the sound of my phone ringing interrupted the quiet. When I glanced at the screen, I noticed that it was Lana calling. I finally answered the phone because we hadn't spoken in weeks and I felt like it was important to catch up."Hey, Lana. What's up?" I spoke. "Hi, Kiki!" Ever since we were children, she has affectionately referred to me by that nickname. It has always been her preferred way of addressing me. "I just wanted to check in with you to make sure everything is all right. It feels like it's been ages since I last heard from you.""Oh!" I was hesitant to share any details with her because I was afraid it would only lead to he
Tom's POV "I implore you, sir! She approached me and mentioned that you had granted her permission to depart." the bodyguard, who was on the verge of being fired, pleaded desperately. As I listened to him, I reflexively nodded and pasted on a smile, feeling increasingly irritated by the nonsensical things spewing from his mouth. "Fred, let me clear up some things for you since you can not use your brain. Kiara came to you and said that I gave her permission..."I released a small laugh, seemingly mocking him "Come on, buddy, you've worked for me for 10 years. Do you really think I wouldn't have told you if I had given her approval to leave the mansion?" I asked. Fred gazed down at my feet, his silence speaking volumes. It was clear that he understood I was speaking the truth. This man had been a loyal and dedicated member of my team for years, one of my most trusted employees. However, circumstances had shifted, and my trust was gone. "It was great to have you on my securit
