Chapter Five

Today was finally the day of the full moon. After today, she was going to have someone on her side. someone who believed that she wasn't Alexis but a human girl named Davina

Noon came and went by quickly and soon, it was night, time for the moon to rise.

Dante glanced at her occasionally, as they walked. her cheeks were stained with red and she bit on her lip so he could tell she was flustered. he couldn't trust what she said because of the reputation Alexis had. Alexis effortlessly pulled pranks and scared the comfort out of people if she had her mind set to it. her free spirited nature was what attracted Calvin to her. she lived fine, thriving as Calvin's mate until the news of her kidnap spread and he couldn't find her again but then he later did and now this......

they arrived at the field. the moon was about to rise fully.

he stared at her again.

she stared back.

"you look flustered" he said, his voice filled with derision.

"well, I should be" she said with a fiery tone "there are animals here and I'm vulnerable "

the field wasn't isolated, there were people here too , waiting for the moon to rise fully. she certainly looked vulnerable. if she was Alexis as he thought, what was she planning? what prank did she have up her sleeve? and if she wasn't Alexis as she said, well, time would tell....

"we have to make a deal" she said.

that was sudden

"deal?" he asked

"yes. you don't believe me because I obviously can't prove that I'm not Alexis but if I'm right, you'll have to do what I say"

"like what?"

"first off, be nice to me and I'll tell you the other things you have to do as time goes by"

"and if you're Alexis?" he asked

"if I transform into a wolf this night ---" she scoffed midway her speech "which I highly doubt, I am ---"

he didn't hear the rest of what she said because he felt the hairs grow on his body rapidly and he guessed the full moon had risen. he quickly pulled his shirt and shorts, leaving only his undergarment. he caught a glimpse of her staring wide eyed at him.

he felt his nails grow into claws and his pupils dilate. then his bones began to snap. he heard shouts from all over. it probably hurt people who have just recently triggered their curse but it didn't hurt him because he was used to transforming and he could transform anytime he wanted. he'd triggered his curse sixteen years ago and since then he'd been transforming every full moon. his skin stretched and tightened, adjusting to his new form. he felt his ear change into its pointed shape and then his face began to contort. he felt his facial bones reform, especially his jaw bones and he guessed his snout had formed. sharp teeth emerged and his morphing into a wolf had been completed. he still heard people screaming in agony of transformation.

Alexis.

he was fully absorbed in his transformation that he had forgotten all about her. he turned and then saw her.

she sat on the field with her hands over her mouth, making muffled sounds and blocking the loud and frightened sounds which threatened to erupt. what was going on? she was right. she certainly wasn't Alexis, for she hadn't transformed and there was no difference in her body.

where was his sister, Alexis? right. that bastard, Raymond still held her captive. he wondered how she was faring all alone.

he looked at the lady again. she was next level frightened. she looked so vulnerable where she sat that he felt the urge to protect her fiercely. who was she?

forgetting he was still in his wolf form, he went closer to her and she let out a frightened scream and began to cry loudly.

it made him stay put.

she cried continuously for a while, until the light from the moon began to decrease. he felt himself go back to his human self after the moon waned and he rushed to her.

she still cried heavily and sniffed. he gathered her in his arms

"it's okay" he soothed until she stopped crying.

he carried her up, in his arms and they began to head back to the alpha's domain.

as he carried her, he knew deep down that whoever she was, she was going to play a really significant role in their lives.

the next morning, Dante came to her. Calvin wasn't around so he had the chance to talk to Davina

"you have to stay here. I don't know how you got here or why you have the same face as my sister, but you have to continue to stay here. nobody has to find out you aren't Alexis, until Alexis returns" Dante said to

Davina, first thing in the morning. she couldn't believe what she heard. after what she witnessed during the full moon, he expected her to stay here and risk her life?her gaze swung up to him

"what?"

"do you have any other solution?" he queried. "my sister is missing and they all think you are her. they should continue to think that way until my sister is found "

"no. no.no" she reiterated, shaking in fright. "I can't spend another night here... I can't...."

"why? what's the matter?" he asked

"I'll die " she wailed. "I was much more safe with my family. Even if they didn't care about me in my world, at least I was safe "

she remembered standing and watching in fright, the full transformation of a human being into a scary animal. she stifled a yelp. she was now very scared. did Agnes send her to this world to die? she wasn't Alexis and they all thought she was. what will happen to her when they found out she really wasn't Alexis. will they all gang up and tear her body apart? she imagined herself being torn apart by wolves. she just wanted to go home. living with Maxine was far better than living in the fear of death. the thought of wolves tearing up her body made her release a distressed shriek.

"you're safe here too---"

"with wolves?" she cut him off

"no one is gonna harm you"

"no, Dante, I can't stay here!" she tried to leave but Dante grabbed her hand, in a bid to stop her

"you can't leave this place alone, Davina. it's the alpha's domain and it's guarded heavily by the sentinel wolves. they won't let you leave without the alpha's permission"

"if you knew that, then why did you stop me when I tried to leave" she gazed at him with suspicion

"to protect you" he said, "let me explain that" he added when he saw the look she gave him

"we can't let Calvin know you're not Alexis. if you go out of here and you try to leave the Alpha's domain, the sentinel wolves wouldn't let you pass, there would be a huge fuss, and you would be reported to Calvin"

she stared at him and didn't speak. he had a point.

"come" he led her back to the bed and they sat down

"if Calvin comes to know of your actions, he'll suspect you because obviously, you'll claim to be Davina, not my sister"

"why can't Calvin know that I'm not Alexis?" Davina asked

"we can't risk his wrath. I've known Calvin since I was a child and up till now, I can't predict him. he isn't quick tempered but he's hot tempered"

Dante explained further

"only my sister could calm him down whenever he got angry"

She still didn't reply. she wanted to listen to him.

"when he finds out that you're an impostor, I really don't know what he would do to you, so we can't risk it"

"he would surely find out" Davina interjected "for, I only have the same face as Alexis, but I can't act like her"

"that won't be a problem" said Dante "I know Calvin would someday find out that you aren't his mate but it won't be now. I'll teach you everything you need to know about my sister"

"what I need to know about Alexis?" she asked

"yes. her likes, dislikes, the way she normally relates with others, the way she acts around Calvin, I'll teach you everything"

even if he presented a remedy to her problems, she couldn't help but feel scared. for goodness sake, there were wolves here. real life, sharp toothed wolves. she was indecisive.

"Davina...." he called

"why do you badly need me to stay here? I mean you could just let Calvin find out about me and...."

"have you punished or killed?" Dante completed for her

"you and I both know that you don't want that for yourself"

she stared in silence

"I want you to stay and act like my sister because I want to uncover the mystery surrounding my sister's kidnap"

"mystery?" asked Davina, confused

"when Ray and Amber see you, they'll be forced to bring Alexis out of where they kept her. they'll be forced to come clean"

that was a killer plan, Davina thought. she was needed here, unlike in her world where she wasn't needed. now she was beginning to realise why Agnes sent her here.

"who's Ray and Amber, if I may ask" she'd been hearing about them, but didn't know anything about them, aside from the fact that they were psychopaths.

"Ray is Calvin's elder brother. he's the Beta wolf, the head of a particular pack. while Amber is Calvin's ex girlfriend"

wow, Davina thought. she'd heard about and seen these things in movies. she never thought she'd witness it in real life.

"what's their deal?" she asked " why did they kidnap Alexis?"

"to use as a leverage. Ray and Amber know that Calvin's in love with Alexis, so they kidnapped her get what they want from him"

"what do they want from Calvin?" she couldn't stop her curiosity

"Raymond wants to be the alpha and Amber wants to be the alpha's mate"

"Calvin fell in love with you, I mean, Alexis and he ditched Amber "

knowing that fact, pleased her somehow, even if she wasn't Alexis

"why does Amber want Calvin so badly?" she asked "her and Ray make a great team of villains"

"she had always loved Calvin. in fact, she literally obsessed with him. Calvin couldn't curb her excesses, that's why he fled from her"

Davina had everything set for her to stay here, but she still had doubts which had to be cleared.

"what would happen when everything is over and Alexis is back?"

Dante kept mute for a moment, then answered

"I know of a witch, she answers Sofia, she stays far away from here. according to what I heard, she's the last of her kind. she can help you with the... teleportation "

that was good to hear. at least he had a way of escape for her. he had everything meticulously planned out.

"okay, that solves one problem, the next is my safety" she said. "now that it's been established that you can't hurt me, it's remaining Ray and Amber. For them to have succeeded in kidnapping Alexis, they must have an army at their feet. when they see me, won't they send their army to kidnap me too?"

"even if they do, nothing will happen to you"

she rolled her eyes

"what makes you think so?"

"like I said, the alpha's domain is fiercely protected. and even if that fails, you have me" said Dante "I'll protect you"

she tried her best not to react to what just said. but she couldn't help it, her heart skipped a beat.

"uhhh..." she began "I'm still freaked out by these wolves. I don't want them hurting me"

"I will protect you " he said again

what the hell was she feeling? that singular declaration from him made her heart beat in an irregular rhythm. she stared at him. was this what Agnes had in store for her when she sent her here?

As their gazes locked, she felt some sort of understanding pass between them but suddenly, the moment ended before she knew it.

Dante's expression was solemn now.

"I'll start teaching you everything you need to know about Alexis by noon" he said

"get ready"

she nodded in agreement, knowing she had a whole new life ahead of her.
