SELENE'S POV.

The night air sliced through my skin like ice, but it wasn't cold that made me tremble, it was the way Darius Thornveil was looking at me.

He didn't move nor did he blink. He just stood there in the middle of the forest path like some vengeful god who'd been waiting for me all along. His eyes had a molten flame quality and were locked on mine for some minutes. Instantly, I forgot how to breathe

I heard "Run". My instincts screamed before my brain could even process, but where was I going to run it, since Dairus was standing like he owned th? Fores?? On the other hand, I decided to take the bull by the horns and walk away since he was not saying anything. He was just standing there staring at me. I spun around and bolted into the trees, branches whipping my face, roots clawing at my bare feet. I didn't care what the outcome would be, I just had to get away.

"Selene!" His voice roared behind me, thunder echoing in the night.

"Where are you going? Don't make this harder than it already is!"

Harder? I nearly laughed, though my lungs were burning. He was one of the reasons my life had turned into this nightmare, and he dared to sound like the victim?

I pushed harder, faster, ignoring the pain in my legs. Every sound, the crack of twigs, the crunch of leaves all echoed like an alarm bell. My wolf whimpered in my head but I shut it up immediately. My mind was up and I was not going back. I could feel his presence getting closer. The air seemed to vibrate with his power,  his Alpha dominance crawling over my skin like fire.

A branch snapped behind me. I was surprised to see that. I quickly ducked and veered sharply to the right, but before I could take another step, something heavy slammed into me from the side. I hit the ground with a choked cry, exploding through my shoulder.

Instantly, I was pinned, Darius's massive frame above me, one hand gripping my wrists, the other braced against the earth. His breathing ragged my eyes, burning with something I couldn't name..

"You want this bond?" His jaw clenched.

"You think I asked for it?

"Yes! I spat. " Because it's ruining my life. If you did not ask for it, it shouldn't be a concern to you where I am going."

He flinched, just barely, but I saw it.

We were both breathing hard, the forest alive with silence around us. For a moment, there was only the sound of our hearts pounding, mine, wild, his steady and deep. Then, suddenly, the sound I heard before Darius showed up, I heard it again.

A guard patrols.

I quickly ran and stayed behind Darius. He was surprised to see me behind him. He didn't know what I was avoiding and I was not going to tell him.

The guard patrol quickly passed. They were discussing something that I could not understand this time.

Darius quickly turned his back.

"Cursed one, what are you doing at my back? Do you think you can harm me? You're fragile, you little one."

I looked at him but didn't say a word. I waited patiently for the group patrol to pass.

As soon as they passed, I got ready to continue my journey but was stopped again by Darius.

"Who are you running from? You think I will not find out? Caelum's men just passed and they are after you."

I flinched.

I thought he didn't hear the guard patrol passing.

"He knows you ran," Darius's voice hardened.

"And he's coming."

The cold washed over me like a wave.

"You'd better go back, else if you're caught it'll be more terrible."

"No! Never! In fact, I would rather die now than go back." I shouted..

"Do you think what you're doing now will stop Caelum from hunting you? Darius cut in sharply.

"He'll burn half this forest to the ground if he has to. And when he finds you, he'll drag you back chained."

"I'd rather die than go back there," I whispered.

Immediately, I ran off. My wolf was whimpering in my head but I did not listen. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me deep into the forest.

I got to a particular dirty water and my instincts started warning of evil.

My wolf also signaled me to be careful. I knew when a small danger was coming and when a danger that could take my life was coming.

I quickly ran into the water to cover my scent. My whole body turned brown and looked so dirty. I didn't mind because I know that one of the ways for Caelum's men to get me is if they can perceive my scent.

After entering the dirty water, I started walking gradually into the forest but didn't know where I was going.

As I walked down, I started hearing some growling, which I attributed to Caleum’s men and my instinct did not deceive me. They were the ones but now they were trekking.

As their voices were coming closer, I hid at the back of an oak tree but could hear them very well.

“Search around so she could be around. I can sense she's around.” One of Caleum's men growled.

They searched and searched but didn't see me. They even crossed the oak tree but didn't see me nor did they perceive my scent because of the clay water I entered into and I was so grateful to my instincts for suggesting that.

“I can perceive her scent slightly. You know what will happen to us if we don't find her and bring her back to Caelum. This is a matter of life and death. Would you want your life to be taken because of this cursed girl?”

They all said at once.

“No, sir.”

“If no is the answer, put your best effort to get her because she must be around but in case you didn't see her here, we can walk deeper into the forest. We must get Selene. We can't go back without her.” he growled.

As they searched around and could not see me, they all went to the forest. I still hid there without even taking a step. A whole lot was going through my mind as I was hiding there.

What if a dangerous cobra or python falls from the tree top on me?

What if I am attacked?

A lot was going through my mind. I felt shivers down my spine as I was waiting for Caelum's men to pass again before coming and continuing my journey.

Suddenly, I started hearing their growlings and his better so that they won't see.

As I held the oak tree so firmly, I heard a shout.

  • Fated To The Alphas Who Despise Me   Chapter 72: Fractured Light

SELENE’S POV The heavy chain around my wrist dug into my skin with every small movement I made. I lay on the narrow bed in the unfamiliar room, staring at the wooden beams overhead while my heart pounded so hard it felt like it might burst through my ribs. The northern safe house smelled of damp stone and pine, the air thick and cold. Bars covered the single window, blocking any view except patches of dark forest. The door had been locked from the outside hours ago. No escape, no sound except my own ragged breathing and the occasional creak of the old wooden frame beneath me.Fear sat like ice in my stomach. I had woken up here after Caelum knocked me out, head throbbing, one wrist fastened to the thick oak bedpost with a silver chain. The last thing I remembered was struggling against him in his study, his hand coming down sharp against my neck. Darius would be looking for me by now. He would tear apart every inch of both packs when he realized I was gone. But how long would it ta

  • Fated To The Alphas Who Despise Me   Chapter 71: Silver Storm

DARIUS’ POV I tore through the northern forests like a man possessed, boots pounding over roots and fallen branches while my wolf clawed at the edges of my control. Every second without Selene felt like a blade twisting deeper in my chest. She had been gone too long. No calls. No messages. Nothing. The driver’s story about Lady Veylor sending him away rang false in my gut. Caelum had her. I knew it with every fiber of my being. He had taken her after our fight, hidden her somewhere to break her away from me.My lieutenant, Ronan’s replacement and the man I planned to name beta, ran beside me. His name was Kael. He kept pace without complaint, eyes scanning the trees.“Alpha, he knows more than he’s letting on,” Kael said between breaths. “Caelum’s guards were too nervous. His aunt was too calm. She’s pulling strings.”“I know.” My voice came out rough. “He took her. I’m done asking nicely.”We had left the main pack house hours ago. I couldn’t sit still after returning from Caelum’s

  • Fated To The Alphas Who Despise Me   Chapter 70: The Safe House

CAELUM’S POV I stepped through the front doors of the main pack house just as the morning sun climbed higher, my body still aching from the fight with Darius yesterday. Bruises throbbed along my ribs and jaw, but the satisfaction of knowing Selene now lay chained in the northern safe house made every twinge worth it. Lady Veylor had chosen the location well. Isolated, heavily guarded, impossible to find unless you knew exactly where to look. She was mine now, and no one, especially not Darius, would take her away again.Marcus met me in the hallway, his face tight with urgency. “Alpha, Darius just arrived at the gates. He’s demanding to see you and Selene. The guards are holding him, but he looks ready to force his way in.”I stopped walking. A slow smile spread across my face. “Perfect timing. Let him in. I’ll handle this personally.”Marcus hesitated for half a second before nodding and heading back outside. I followed at a slower pace, straightening my shirt and rolling my shoulde

  • Fated To The Alphas Who Despise Me   Chapter 69: Empty House

DARIUS’ POV I pushed the front door open well past midnight, the wood creaking softly in the quiet house. The long council meeting had dragged far longer than I expected, filled with endless arguments and pointed questions I barely managed to deflect. My shoulders ache from sitting rigid in that chair for hours. I expected to find Selene waiting in our bedroom, maybe curled up with a book or already asleep with the lamp still on. Instead the room sat dark and empty. The sheets lay rumpled from this morning, but her side of the bed remained untouched. No familiar shape under the covers, no soft breathing filling the silence.A thread of concern pulled tight in my chest. She had every reason to be upset with me for returning so late after promising to be back before lunch. I told myself she had probably stepped outside for some fresh air to clear her head. I crossed to the window and scanned the moonlit yard. The garden paths stood empty, the trees swaying gently in the night breeze.

  • Fated To The Alphas Who Despise Me   Chapter 68: Broken Chains

CAELUM’S POV I watched Selene step into the study, and everything inside me shifted. She stood there in the doorway, eyes wide as she took in the scene. My body still throbbed from the beating Darius had given me earlier, but none of that mattered now. She had come. She stood in my house, and this time I would not let her walk back out.Lady Veylor stayed quiet near the window, but I felt her approval like a shadow at my back. I pushed myself up from the couch, ignoring the sharp pull in my ribs.“You came,” I said.Selene’s gaze flicked to my aunt, then back to me. “I came to understand why you and Darius fought. But I see the reason right here. Why is she free? You locked her away for trying to kill me.”I took a step closer. “She told me the truth. Darius killed my mother during that fight four years ago. He made sure every clue pointed at your father. He started the war that ruined both our packs. He wanted you for himself, so he cleared the path by destroying everything around y

  • Fated To The Alphas Who Despise Me   Chapter 67: Unspoken Fractures

SELENE’S POV I paced the living room for the hundredth time, my bare feet silent on the thick rug while my heart hammered against my ribs. Darius had left hours ago with nothing more than a quick kiss and a vague promise to return before lunch. The house felt too quiet without him, every creak of the floorboards making me jump. I kept replaying the image of him sitting in that armchair last night, glass of wine in hand, staring into nothing while I slept. He never drank alone like that. He never stayed awake guarding me unless something heavy weighed on his mind. Darius hid secrets better than anyone I knew, locking them behind that calm mask he wore so well, but last night the mask had slipped. Something was wrong, and he refused to share it.Lunch came and went. The food I prepared sat untouched on the table, growing cold. I checked the clock again. He always kept his word. Always. When the afternoon stretched into early evening and still no sign of his truck in the driveway, the

SELENE'S POV.I stood rooted to the ground long after both Alphas stormed off in different directions. My fingers were still tingling from touching them, a touch that I could not explain what it did to them, but I knew it did something to them. I didn't understand it, and at the same time, I didn't

  • Fated To The Alphas Who Despise Me   CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE: I KILLED ALL

DAIRUS' POV.I walked straight toward the pack, my legs moving like they had a mind of their own. At first, it was stiff, but then it evolved into something entirely different. A rush of heat and a surge of wild energy from nowhere. Something so powerful pulsed through me that I could barely breath

  • Fated To The Alphas Who Despise Me   CHAPTER THIRTY TWO: THE EFFECT OF THE TOUCH

DAIRUS'S POV..I started heading to the forest to look for Selene. My wolf kept whimpering in my head. It was so restless and whimpering. Selene was gone and the thought of her in the wrong hands and wrong place burned like fire under my ribs.I moved quickly, branches snapping my boots, the scent

  • Fated To The Alphas Who Despise Me   CHAPTER THIRTY ONE: THE TOUCH

SELENE'S POV.Darkness swallowed everything. Voices that were loud, distant, overlapping echoed inside my skull as if several people were speaking from the underworld. I tried to open my eyes but felt nothing. I could equally not feel my legs. Then, slowly, sensation crept back like returning waves
