SeleneI stood at the edge of the Moonspire, my hands clenched so tight my nails drew blood. The massive stone circle was packed with wolves from all four territories. The blood moon hung overhead, casting everything in shades of red that made the whole scene look like something out of a nightmare. At least for meIt was three days after I had made a fool of myself in the pack’s hall. It was such a disappointment that Alpha Dorian didn’t call me back to ensure I got my ‘punishment’.He simply asked me to wait so I could pour him some wine before leaving. And then he added condescendingly that I shouldn’t spill it on him, because he wouldn’t be as soft as Alpha Caelum.Well, shall I thank him for his mercy? Because it’s due to their grace that I’m here—the only unwanted and despised person in this grand gathering. (Note my sarcasm.)Tonight was the night unmated wolves would discover their fates. Some would find their other half. Others would feel frustrated when they don’t find theirs

SeleneI was terrified. Absolutely, bone-deep terrified. But I'd be damned if I let any of them see it.I lifted my chin and met Caelum's cold gray eyes, ignoring the shocked gasps from the crowd around us. Some of the unmated girls who'd been whispering about becoming his Luna were glaring at me like I'd personally ruined their lives.Firstly, I’d like to declare that I absolutely didn’t ruin their lives, they did with their fakeness. Secondly, I would rather die mateless than have either of these two as my mate, talk less of both of them.I wanted to look up to the moon and scream, howl and question it. ‘Is this some type of sick fucking joke you’re playing to mock me!?’But then, I refrained from doing it because, aside from the fact that it’ll make me seem like a lunatic, I couldn’t afford to have a bad rep with the goddess. The werewolf race already hated me; it’d be tragic if the moon goddess started to hate me, too.The truth was, aside from knowing they didn't want me, Caelum

SELENE'S POV.The shout tore through the silence like a blade. My heart leaped into my throat, pounding so violently. I thought it would give me away. For a moment, I froze. I was torn between instinct and fear. I wanted to run in that direction because I knew that whoever that must have let out that shout must be in danger but another part of me refused it because it could be a setup.I've always been like that. Very compassionate, even when my parents were alive. I'm the kind of person who would walk into a burning house if I heard someone cry for help. But tonight wasn't just any night. This forest was crawling with danger, and Caelum's men weren't exactly known for mercy.Still, I crouched lower behind the oak, straining to listen.."Argh! I stepped on something!" someone shouted again...My breath caught. That voice wasn't a woman's voice. It was one of them."Idiot," another voice barked."You've stepped into a trap!"I pressed my palm to my mouth to keep me from gasping aloud. T

SELENE'S POV.The world faded into nothingness. I didn't even feel myself hit the ground. One moment, I was struggling to drag my feet toward the stream, the next darkness swallowed me whole.I don't know how long I lay there, minutes, hours, maybe days. My body was numb, but my wolf whimpered weakly inside me, her once-vibrant spirit now flickering like a dying flame. I was lying there, I could hear what was happening around me but it was looking like I was in another world.Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, Caleum's men were still moving through the shadows. They slept and woke up very early. Their mission had been clear, to find Selene and bring her back. Caelum's orders echoed in their minds: If you return without her, I'll kill you. If you value your life so much, do everything possible to find her or you die."Caelum is very blunt and does not joke with his words. Once he says anything he carries it out. His pack members know this part of him and everyone avoids having a

.SELENE'S POV.I could not believe it. After everything, after thinking I was finally free, here I was again, back to the same cold, damp cage that reeked of hopelessness. Back to square one. I expected that after Caelum had seen me, he would send me back to his pack or give me a better place to stay in his pack, and not the prison.I sat in a corner, hugging my knees tightly against my chest as the reality of it all crushed me like a boulder. The iron bars around me glistened faintly under the flickering torchlight. My tears fell uncontrollably, hot and endless, streaming down my face and soaking into my ragged clothes."How...how could he? I whispered, my voice breaking with every word."Why was I brought back here?"The more I thought about it, the harder I cried. The betrayal was something else, too heavy to swallow. For a brief moment when I was at the hospital, I had believed maybe Caelum had changed, maybe he had a heart buried deep beneath all that pride and cruelty. But I w
