Chapter 5:

My mind kept running through it, is there any way I could confront him? I'm locked up in this cabin, I felt the bond tighten every minute, I felt him panting, and as if the bond knew it was gonna be broken soon.

I felt my heart hurt, so badly like it wanted out.

And soon it was sunset, my heartbeat increased, he'd be here anytime soon, to free me and doom his pack.

I should be happy to leave this place, happy I'd meet my parents and Jess but, I feel so uneasy like some strong pull toward this place.

And just like I'd expected, a knock came on the door “Aria?” It was Vera's voice.

I quickly stood up, gulping down nothing and trying not to panic.

I opened the door, an uneasy smile played on her face “it’s time and you'd finally be free” she was trying so hard not to show her nervousness…well it didn't work.

“I won't let him break it, I'd find a way to tail him or something, or disrupt it midway, somehow…anyhow” I muttered reassuringly.

“Don’t, you'd only piss him off, he's made up his mind and…we'd follow him”

I shook my head walking out, I saw sage from a distance, tears welled up in her eyes as she shook vigorously.

I gestured that it'd be fine before following Vera, I needed to think of a plan as fast as I could. I'm the only one who could actually help, if he breaks this bond and after 3years he gets mated to another girl? There's no way he'd keep it, I had to make this work.

Eyes fell on me as I followed Vera slowly.

Frail huts stood bent like they had weak foundations, middle aged men stood weakly all looking like they'd passed a series of circles and were close to death.

And for the first time I saw what sage meant, the place was really dying, kids that were supposed to be full of life and playing, just stood close to their mothers like they could faint any moment.

“We're here” Vera mouthed, pointing to an old creaky door, dust and cobwebs covered part of it like it's not been used for ages.

She pushed the door slightly as it creaked open, I waved my arms avoiding the cobwebs before entering the room.

“You're here” Kael's voice came, I turned to see him setting a table while arranging and placing old books and some other things I didn't recognize, one looked like veggies tho.

“All these just to break the bond? Don't you care about your pack?” I asked, hoping I could say something to make him stop.

“ I do and that's why I'm trying to break this bond ”

“I saw the kids outside and, that is not the behavior of lively children, they're all suffering kael” I said my voice rather loud and he lifted his chin to look at me.

“Yeah, if only fate didn't mate me to someone who made them like that, and it's trying to do it again”

“What if it's trying to make amends instead, try to look at it from a positive angle” I argued this time, voice lower, I walked close to him.

“I'm not putting them on the line to try something that has a high probability of failing”

“Enough of the talk, human, you started this, if only you stayed in your world” he added.

Gesturing me to sit with him, I swallowed hard joining him, he glanced at me before picking up an old book or whatever it is.

He flipped pages, his fist clenching on each flip, I saw old drawings of animals, some had full furs and red eyes.

He stopped flipping and turned toward me, “Give me your hand” he stretched out his arm.

“We can still stop kael, I mean, it won't hurt to trust yourself once more right?” It seemed I was talking to myself because he took my arm in his and started saying strange words.

He poured a mixed liquid on my palm, locking it with his.

My eyes closed immediately like something had snapped them closed, my chest hardened as an invisible force pulled my chest upward like I'd fly to the ceiling, I'd lost absolute control of myself but kael won't stop.

“Kael…st…stop!” I pleaded eyes closed tightly as blood gushed out of my nose, I heard him growl loudly, I felt my chest burn like something was ripping apart, a hot metallic taste filled my mouth as my lower teeth had hit my tongue.

The door to the library burst open “ Alpha! We've been attacked!” My eyes tore open as I fell to the ground with a loud thomp…kael had stopped immediately running to the door.

I shifted on the floor slowly trying to get myself, “remain here even if the world is collapsing” I heard him rush back to say, blood on his busted lips while some close to his eyes.

I swallowed hard quickly getting up, I can't stay here, he's weak already and won't be able to defend his pack and absorbing their pain like he did last time would seriously harm him.

I wiped my mouth running out of the library.

And soon I heard loud noises outside, my pace increased as my legs moved on their own, and like something fell from the sky, loud thumping sounds could be heard on the dusty floor.

I heard kids cry and older women wail.

Vera stood close to kael, close enough like they joined forces protecting the people and yet again kael was eating up the people's pain.

I came out running to help take some crying kids inside.

I felt the eyes of the animals turn to me…with intensity filled eyes, like they've seen who they wanted. Kael noticed their gaze and turned also, his eyes met with mine as his eyes widened.

“I told you not to come out against orders” I heard his voice in my head like I was wearing headphones, loud, angry and commanding.

And again my body responded before my mind could, I shifted backward but got myself immediately, some old people couldn't even get up to move on their own.

One of them charged at me as I quickly pulled my arms across my face , plants grew from the ground immediately as thorns tore through him. I've always felt plants respond to me but this was totally different, the thorns went back in and taller ones shielded me.

They moved as I did, making sure I was in the middle like some kind of spell, those we watched movies.

I looked up, kids ran inside some fell while they ran, kael fought, he tried but they overpowered him.

There were too many for him, one of them lifted sword to strike his back with. I ran quickly to him, and I'd gotten there in seconds, I moved with great speed like him.

The thorns that had shielded me tore through the wolf-like animal, full furs and emerald eyes, just like the ones I saw in the old book a few minutes ago and just like the first it shredded into pieces.

I exhaled loudly in relief, I didn't understand what was happening but I could use it as an advantage, I charged at them, and I needed not to fight cause the thorns kept tearing them…and this time kael didn't stop me, he fought alongside me, and the attackers retreated while some ran after the retreated ones.

The roots went down and my eyes cleared, what was that? I'd just saved kael with some supernatural growing thorns and plants.

Chapter 4Someone was screaming.I jolted awake, heart hammering. Gray dawn light filtered through the cabin windows. The screaming continued. Raw. Agonized.I stumbled to the door and cracked it open. The clearing was chaos.Wolves. Everywhere. Some in human form, some mid-shift, caught between human and animal. Their screams were the worst. Like their bodies were tearing themselves apart."Stay inside!" A guard appeared at my door. Male. Built like a tank. His eyes were wild. "Don't come out. Don't let them see you.""What's happening?""The curse. It comes in waves. Gets worse every time." He gripped the doorframe. His knuckles were white. "Just stay inside."He left before I could ask more questions.I should have listened. Should have closed the door and hidden like he said. But I couldn't look away.A woman collapsed in the middle of the clearing. She was maybe thirty. Pretty. Her back arched and I heard bones breaking. Snapping. Her scream cut off into a choked gurgle. Two othe

Chapter 3I didn't sleep. How could I?Every time I closed my eyes, I felt him. The bond hummed between us like a live wire. Constant. Inescapable. I could sense his location in the main lodge. Could feel the tension coiled in his body even from here.He wasn't sleeping either. The cabin was simple. A bed with rough blankets. A small table and chair. A tiny bathroom with a toilet and sink but no mirror. The walls were bare wood, gaps between some of the planks letting in slivers of moonlight.I sat on the bed, knees pulled to my chest, and tried to make sense of everything.Werewolves were real.Mate bonds were real. And I was tied to an Alpha who'd murdered his last mate.My hands were shaking. I pressed them against my knees but couldn't stop the trembling.A betrayal, Vera had said. Thirty-seven wolves dead. His sister. No wonder he looked at me like I was a curse.Maybe I was.A soft knock on the door made me jump."It's just me," a voice called. Female. Young. "I brought food."I

Chapter 2I had no choice but to follow him.The pain when I tried to turn back was unbearable. Like someone was ripping my chest open from the inside. So I followed. My legs ached. My lungs burned. He didn't slow down, didn't look back to see if I was keeping up. He moved through the forest like he owned it, like the trees bent to his will.Maybe they did. What did I know anymore?"Can you at least tell me your name?" I called out, stumbling over a root.He didn't answer."Or where we're going?"Still nothing.Frustration bubbled up in my chest, mixing with the fear. "Look, I get that you're mad about whatever this is, but I didn't ask for—"He stopped so suddenly I almost crashed into his back. When he turned, his eyes were that molten gold again. My breath caught."You want to know my name?" His voice was dangerously quiet. "Fine. I'm Kael. Alpha of the Shadowveil Pack. What's left of it, anyway."Alpha. The word sent a shiver down my spine."And where we're going," he continued, t

  • Fated To The Rouge Alpha    The boundary

Chapter 1The forest had no business being this quiet.I pressed my back against the oak tree, bark biting through my thin jacket, and strained to hear something, anything beyond my own ragged breathing. The hiking trail had disappeared twenty minutes ago. Or maybe it was an hour. Time moved differently when you were lost, when the trees pressed close like they wanted to swallow you whole. My phone was dead. Of course it was. I'd ignored the battery warning because I'd been so sure I could find that stupid rare orchid my botany professor had mentioned. Extra credit, he'd said. Easy points, he'd said. He hadn't mentioned that the coordinates would lead me into a part of the Cascade foothills that felt wrong in a way I couldn't articulate. The silence wasn't natural. No birds. No insects. Not even the whisper of wind through the canopy above.I pushed off from the tree and forced myself forward. My boots squelched in the damp earth, at least I was heading downhill. Downhill meant water.
