LOGIN“What are you doing?”
I jolted out of shock, pulling away from the kiss with Baron. Fear immediately seized me as my brain recognizes the voice even before I turn to see the face. “What does it look like she’s doing, Mister?” Baron’s tone was challenging. “She does not belong to you!” Ben threw a challenging glare right back. Baron erupted in a mirthless, mocking chortle. “Yeah? Tell that to the Moon Goddess, fella.” “Baron please.” I begged, knowing how much of in trouble I was in that moment. “Come here this minute, Scarlett before I deal with you.” Ben’s angry tone reverberated. Jolting in fear and apprehension, I took slow steps towards him. To my utmost surprise, Baron pulled me back to his side. “She’s in school and as long as she’s in Stone Shadow academy and pack, she’s mine!” “Scarlett!” Ben called in warning. “Let go, Baron, please. I don’t want any trouble.” My chest was beginning to pound heavily, my breaths coming in short. I could feel an episode coming on but I held it in. No need to disgrace myself before my…Baron. “I’ll have you on you’re butting in family matter.” Ben stepped forward to grab me from Baron who held on firmly. “Please…” I could not breathe fine. “G-guys…” “I don’t care who you are. You have no right to hold my daughter and keep her away from me.” Baron’s eyes flashed. “Try me, buddy.” Their arguments continued, their voices increasing by the second while I was struggling to hold myself from falling to the floor and collapsing. I didn’t bother talking as I would not want to worsen my case. When it showed sign of starting, it was best to keep mute and reserve strength. I heard footsteps approaching. I could not tell how many they were but it was more than one person. “What’s going on here, Baron?” It was the boys and Katherina, they were here. “Are you okay?” A soft hand touched my arm. I managed a smile. “Yes, thank you.” It was Katherina and she was staring at me with concerns in her eyes. She seemed doubtful over my response but didn’t say anything. “Tell this jerk to leave this school, Aaron or else I’ll deal with him.” His statement was directed to Aaron, his twin brother and Katherina’s mate but he had his glare fixed on Ben, my stepfather. I wish I had the strength to step in and beg them to stop, but I didn’t. I was trying to stand strong especially with Katherina watching me like a hawk. She was suspecting something was wrong with me. My condition was one I never left people see or know. I found it embarrassing so I mostly kept it to myself. “She’s my responsibility and she’s coming with me now!” Ben spat. “Come here this minute, Scarlett!” Her ordered me. I made to go to him though reluctantly. Baron wound a protective arm around me, I wasn’t sure he knew what was wrong with me at the moment. His Alpha wolf was more interested in bullying Ben into submission. “She’s not going anywhere.” “Let the girl go, Baron. Even though he’s a jerk, he’s her family.” Zach stated, giving Ben a condescending once-over. “She’s an adult. More than eighteen, I’m sure she can speak for herself.” Baron replied stubbornly. Ben continued to argue with him, I couldn’t really hear them anymore. The arguments were loud, chaotic echoes to my ears. My heart pounded faster, beads of sweat formed on my forehead, my breath were coming in short, low wheezes. “Something’s wrong with her, guys.” Katherina’s voice disrupted their argument. “Let her go, boy. I need to take her home.” I heard Ben say to them, he was coming for me. But Baron was already lifting me bridal style. I could barely make a sentence at this point. I was trying to reach for the inhaler in my pocket. “Wait, Baron. She’s trying to reach out for something in her back pocket.” This was from the voice I’d come to recognize as Luke’s. “It’s her inhaler. Give me that girl.” Ben cussed. “One more step and I’ll have your guts splattered on the walls of this hallway.” Baron threatened. “Kathy, reach out and get whatever it is.” Her held me close to his chest as Katherina brought out my breathing pump. “She’s asthmatic?” One of the guys, I didn’t know which said. “Administer it, fast!” There was a note of urgency mixed with anger in Ben’s tone. It was Katherina who put it iny mouth and pumped hard. I took in three long, mouthfuls of air before I weakly pushed her hand away from my mouth, signalling I’d had enough. “Let’s take her to the clinic, quick.” Still in Baron’s arms, he hurried towards where I supposed was the clinic. I was new but had no idea where it was located. I saw, heard and knew everything that was happening around me but I couldn’t talk. This was embarrassing for me. Baron glanced at my face every now and then as he hurried with me in his arms. There was worry, concern and pity. There. That was the look I hated the most. Those who didn’t bully me, pitied me. I sometimes think that was worse than the bullying itself. I shut my eyes so I would not have to keeping meeting his gaze. “Hey, are you okay?” He nudged me a bit. I nodded my head but kept my eyes closed. Soon I felt myself being lowered on a bed in a room that had air conditioning. With how hot I felt, the cold air was a welcome but I knew it was not for long before it affected me again. “Reduce it.” My eyes were still closed, my voice was low and held a little tremble at the edge. “What?” He lowered his head so he could hear me better. “The AC, reduce it.” I repeated weakly. But Like had beaten him to it and reduced the cold, crisp air. “Okay?” I nodded. I searched the room, Ben was nowhere in sight. My heart pounded in fear. Who knew what fate awaited me at home.ENISA“Hello, mom.” I stepped into the house, trying my best to look bright and not rouse suspicion.“Hi, darling. Are you okay?” But I guess one couldn’t fool their own mother…or maybe it was just my own mother that was hard to fool. “Of course, mom. I’m fine.” I hurried my feet towards the stairs to my room, my head lowered and my hair curtained about my face. “Enisa Beverly Saunders,” her firm tone stopped me on my tracks. “You will not lie to your mother. Raise your head, young lady.”She stepped in my path, stopping me from taking another step. Exasperated, I raised my head. “I’m fine, mom.”She ignored me, her keen eyes shifting to the left side of my face. A brow raised in question as her thumb gently touched the bruise there. “Who did this to you?”A lie came spilling without hesitation. “All the students were rushing to go home as soon as the bell rang. I was coming down the stairs with Nina and Delia when this guy and his friend mistakenly bumped into me. In trying to st
SCARLETT “Get off me, you bastard!” With all of my might, I pushed him off of me. He didn’t fight it, just let me go. I thought I saw guilt flashed in his eyes, but the annoyance was palpable. “What’s wrong with Enisa? Do you not want me to make love to you?” In a blind, raging moment, my hand swiped hard across his face. “Are you going to play the game of ignorance with me right now?”I didn’t want to believe what my head was conjuring right now. Mother of the Moon, please no. I prayed silently, I do not want to have to deal with the fact that my mate had cheated on me with the girl I’d accepted as my friend. That was more than betrayal. That was an attempt on my life. Mates were not supposed to cheat on each other especially when the bond had been formed and the female wolf have been marked by her mate. “What’s wrong, Scarlett? I didn’t even do anything. Why would you hit me?!” His voice was on the edge of giving control to his wolf’s. “Why do I smell Enisa on you?!” I lashed
SCARLETT “Baron’s not picking up his phone.” I worried endlessly, complaining to everyone in the room. “He might be busy.” Lucas replied with a shrug. “Yeah. You know he’s seemingly interested in dad’s business empire. Good for me, if you ask. I mean, if he’s not going to get a degree, he might as well do something worthwhile with his young, complicated life.” His twin, Aaron, said. That made me chuckle. “Young, complicated life.” Zach snorted. “That’s a good one.”For the first time ever, I saw Trenton smile. Not the easy, slow spread anyone would do, but one that slightly upturns a corner of his mouth with his eyes replicating the smile. He looked very handsome. “You should smile often, Trenton. It looks good on you.” I told him.He snapped his expression back to flat and unsmiling, passing me a glare as if he was accusing me of being the cause for the almost-unnoticeable smile. “He’s pissed you caught him.” Lucas laughed, munching chips. Zach snuck his hand into bowl of chi
ENISAAs soon as the bell rang signalling the end of lecture on Monday, I hastily packed my bag, ready to go meet this anonymous person before heading home.“Where are you rushing off to, Enisa?” Scarlett stopped me before I could reach the door. “I want to run an errand. I’ll call you later, okay?” I was really curious to know who this person was.If they had asked to see me in a very suspicious area, I wouldn’t have bothered. I might have been even reported the number and blocked them. But Salvatore Hotel? That place was a big deal. Whoever wanted to see there must be a very important person or it was for an important reason. “Alright. See you tomorrow.” She waved at me, falling into step beside Katherine, helping her with her bag. I waved back and hurried out of class. Once at the base of the stairs, walking the hallway, avoiding students rushing home from bumping into me. “Hey, where are you rushing off to?” There was Nina and Delia, waiting for me near my car in the student
SCARLETT Enisa was even fun to be with than I thought. She made the class less boring, cracking jokes and performing a mimicry of the lecturer’s pattern of speech in low tones.Even Katherine couldn’t help chuckling at the solo performance. Students let out relieved sighs and groans once the bell rang for lunch. I helped Katherine gather her books and carried her bag. “Sure you can carry both our bags?”“Of course. You don’t need to stress much given your condition.” Katherine eye rolled, but there was smile in her eyes. “I’m pregnant, Scarlett, not handicapped.”“No shade to pregnancy and pregnant women, including you Katherine, but I think pregnancy should be classified under temporary disability, until the woman gives birth.” Enisa commented, carrying her own bag. “Disabled people aren’t allowed to do some certain kind of activities because of their condition. Same goes for pregnant women. I heard doing little things like wearing your own shoes or bending to pick stuff from th
ENISAI drove into the school compound, parking in the garage meant for the students. I climbed out, with my school bag slung on a shoulder, watching as the Salvatores made their grand entrance into the compound and wheeling into the garage built specifically for them. Aaron and his mate who was also a second year student and pregnant came out of their car. She was the only student who’d gotten pregnant and not received backlash from fellow students and snide remarks from lecturers. No one would dare insult the mate of a Salvatore. The rest of the Salvatore brothers all emerged from their individual cars greatly envied by students and lecturers alike. Then I saw him — Baron Salvatore. Aaron’s twin brother and considered the bad boy of the family. Complicated, headstrong, mysterious. But no one could deny his attractive features. He was tall and built — just like all the Salvatore brothers — with a powerful presence only an Alpha wolf could possess. Honestly, no male in the Sal
BENThat stupid bastard! He was going to pay for what he had put me through. All of them, every one of the Salvatores would regret crossing paths with me. Only I knew this was a job I wouldn’t be able to finish myself. I needed help. The only way to deal with an Alpha was to involve another Alph
My jaw dropped open in shock. Tears ceased immediately. How…how did he get here? “You dare lay your finger on my mate?!” Baron lunged forward with another brutal kick as Ben was struggling to stand. The latter was currently bleeding from his head and nose.Baron pulled him up by his shirt, raised
SCARLETTWe entered the boutique. A blast of cool air hit my face, I welcomed it. Then came the sight of beautiful clothes I had only seen the rich girls wear and dream of owning it.“By that smile, I’m guessing you like what you see.” He looked down at me with a pleased expression.I nodded. “Yes
SCARLETT “Oh my goodness, Lucas. That’s crazy.” My stomach hurt from laughing. These Salvatore boys were hilarious and fun to be with. Lucas and Zach were unhinged.Aaron had this serious personality, but there was also this funny part to him I believed he didn’t let out much. We were all in th
