As I strolled through the pack house, I oddly remebered how the previous day had gone. We had been having a meeting with the pack elders about the fate of the other rogues when Donald's mate walked in. She carried a strange sense of confidence and pride about her, and I couldn't help but sigh. Immediately, I knew that she hadn't come for anything good. It wasn't up to five minutes after my thought that she declared her interest in becoming Alpha.
More than that, she wanted to replace Donald. Her argument was that she could do better, and had more right to the position than he did. Even though I had expected her to do something irrational, I hadn't foreshadowed those words. It instantly seemed to me like something a person had told her to say.
