Chapter 23
LYRA
Everything is black, and then I hear a little voice counting. “One, Two, Four, Five, Seven…”
Another voice breaks through the darkness in my mind. “Emerson,” the little voice squeals. “You have got the numbers all wrong again.”
Slowly my vision comes into view, and I am in the stables at Silver Wolf. But the stables are different. The stalls are full of horses, they have never been full before. I slowly walk towards Snowflake’s stall, relishing in the feel of the straw underneath my feet. A feeling of shock overwhelms my body when I see her. Her beautiful white coat has turned gray, and she looks so much older. “Oh my sweet Snowflake,” I cry as she nuzzles her nose in my hair.
“Ready or not, Mommy,” one of the little voices yells. “Here we come.”

LYRAIt feels like a thousand different emotions are pushing their way through my mind. Guilt and shame are at the forefront, and I know those emotions are not coming from me. “Good,” I grumble as I stomp my way up the stairs. “I hope he feels awful.” James’s room is the first door to the left of the stairs. I raise my hand to knock on the door, but I hesitate. ANDREWReturning from the bathroom, I see that Lyra is already asleep. Slipping into the bed beside her, I pull her in closely. I bury my nose into her mess of curls and inhale deeply. James’s scent is still on her, and it sends a wave of frustration through my body. The scent of another male on her should make me angry, but it actually makes her smell more enticing. Maybe she was right, I do not mind the smell because this is how it is supposed to be. I shake that thought from my mind, still unable to accept the truth that she has another mate. LYRAAs my vision slowly returns, I try to raise my hands to wipe the crust from my eyes, but a burning sensation around my wrists keeps me from trying to lift them. I can feel heavy cuffs around my wrists and ankles, and I know that I have been bound by silver. The silver cuffs will keep me from using any of my werewolf abilities. My eyes try to adjust to the darkness around me but without my wolf, my senses are equal to that of a human. I cannot even growl in frustration. Glancing around in the darkness, I can barely make out a bed and a toilet. The floor feels cold under my feet. The walls are nothing more than cement blocks and there is a single door with a tiny window at the top. Surveying the room I try to formulate a plan of escape, but there are no windows or vents that I can fit through. LYRAThere is no light inside my cell except what filters through the cracks around the door. I cannot tell how long I have been in this cell. Cain has come in twice and tried to reason with me.
