Fiona's POV
“You will not be eating dinner. Go and get your sister here this instant.” Every servant lowered their head. Even Father silently continued eating. No one questioned Mother. I gulped. My gaze narrowed on the delicacies—rich aroma of roasted chicken Filled the air. My mouth watered even more, perhaps because I knew I wouldn’t even get a taste. “But Mom, I haven’t eaten all day.” “Nonsense. As the lady of the pack, you need to maintain your figure. The wedding is in a few days, and I will not have you looking like a buffoon in that wedding dress. You belong to the Nightshade Pack and must not bring shame to us.” “Yes, Mother.” At this point, I had lost count of how many times she had said those words—over and over again. “You belong to the Nightshade Pack. Everything you do must be for the pack.” I had accepted my fate a long time ago. It was my duty. I would always remind myself of that. “I’m starving…it hurts.” My wolf, Fifi, whimpered inside my head as I climbed up the stairs. “Mom has us on a strict diet. We cannot disobey her.” Fifi only growled, but then she turned silent. I sighed. I hated it when we fought, but what choice did I have? When I reached the hallway, I noticed something was wrong. The air felt too quiet—almost deserted. Servants were always roaming around the hallway. The place always felt alive. But now it was different. A chill prickled my skin when I heard a sound—sharp, like a moan of ecstasy. That was when I noticed my room door was open. I clearly remembered locking it before leaving for my morning duties. “I sense our mate—” Alpha Kale? No, Kale told me he had training with his betas. “Oh, yes…” The voice came louder, and my heart stuttered. My eyes started to burn. Even though my heart was trying not to accept it, the moment I reached my room, there was nothing left to hide. My mate was cheating on me… with my younger sister, Iva. “What is going on here?” The words came out in a tiny whisper, even though I tried to scream. They pulled away from each other. My empty stomach lurched at the smell of their sex and sweat. I swallowed the gag before it could roll out. “You weren't supposed to find out like this. This…” Kale, my mate, fumbled through his words. One hand raked through his hair as his eyes fixed on me with confusion. I was only eighteen when I found my wolf, and that day the Moon Goddess brought me Alpha Kale. He wasn’t the sweetest, but he was mine. “Kale, our mating ceremony is in three days… and you’re sleeping with my sister on my bed.” Iva’s voice came out in a soft whisper. “Alpha Kale said it turns him on doing it here.” My heart stopped. This wasn’t the first time they had been here—in my room, sleeping together in my bed. Fifi howled in contempt and pain as we stared at Kale, who couldn’t bear to look at us. I hated him for doing this, but worse, I hated my sister who always had to take everything from me. For the first time, I did something unthinkable. I slapped my sister. Hard. Everything froze. Including me. I had never hurt anyone, even though I was a werewolf. Blood itself was enough to make me nauseous. Violence was even worse. A tear slipped from my eyes as I stared at my palm. “Oh, Moon Goddess.” Kale shoved past me and went to my sister. “Iva, are you okay?” he said with the kind of softness I had always wished he would use toward me. Iva burst into tears and grabbed Kale’s arm. “It hurts. I told you we shouldn’t have done this. Now my sister is mad at me.” Hearing her say “sister” felt like an insult. Kale glared at me, his flaming red eyes ignited with fury. “How dare you touch my wolf…” Whack! My hand moved again before I could stop it. Kale went blank. I trembled but held myself together. How could I hit him?” No—he deserved it, and so did that bitch, Fifi growled. Kale scoffed and rubbed his hand over his face, trying to ease the sting. “Did an omega just hit me? Do you have any idea what your actions could cause for Iva? She’s pregnant, for Moon’s sake!” “I’m done dealing with your crap. I was only with you because the Moon Goddess forced this bond on me. Otherwise, why would I want to spend my life with a filthy omega?” Kale had never spoken to me like that before. Now, because of my sister, he… I sniffed, realizing there was no use crying. It was obvious he had never loved me. Not even once. “Reject him. He doesn’t deserve us,” Fifi growled. She was trying to be brave for both of us, but I could hear the ache in her voice. “Women always listened. They never led. They followed their alpha.” My mother would always say that. But why should I keep listening to a man who had no regard for our mate bond? So I forced my spine straight, even as a tear escaped. “Iva, Mom and Dad always gave you everything, but you always seem to want everything that belongs to me. Fine. I’ll give him to you.” “Sis, please.” Iva went down on her knees, her eyes glistening with fake tears. “It… it’s a mistake. I didn’t mean for this to happen,” she begged. But her eyes told another story. They lit up with that familiar victorious gleam she always had when she won. Kale yanked Iva up and scolded her for begging me. I reached for the jewelry Kale had given me—his pack heirloom. A priceless jewel meant only to be worn by his Luna. I breathed deeply, remembering how my stomach had fluttered the day the mate bond snapped into place, despite the humiliation of discovering my wolf was an omega after years of waiting. Kale had told me my wolf was beautiful and placed the necklace on me. Ripping it off now felt like a knife plunged into my gut. Shutting my eyes, I tossed the necklace at Kale. He didn’t notice at first because he was too busy with Iva. Then I strode closer. That was when he looked up and saw me. “I, Fiona Wong of the Nightshade Pack…” Kale’s face went pale as he frowned and tightened his grip around Iva. “Fiona, what are you doing?” The words made my lips quiver. I clenched my fist. Fifi howled inside my head, her strength coiling in my stomach. “Reject you as my—” Just before I could finish, footsteps approached and my mother’s voice rang out. “What’s going on here?”Isaiah’s POVNever in my life did I expect I’d be here eavesdropping on a conversation.Me? The Rogue King. The door opened and I hid behind one of the pillars. Then Kaylan stepped outside and locked the door.“Your Majesty, you were being too obvious.”I straightened my shoulders before coming out into view.“Was I?”“I already agreed to report everything you wanted to know. Lady Fiona is fine.”I cleared my throat. “Got it. Continue taking care of her.”Just as I turned to leave, Kaylan called after me. “Your Majesty, Lady Fiona doesn’t want to stay. If you keep keeping her against her will she might not forgive you.”All I did was exhale and continue walking. She had to stay. This was for her own good. But was it just for her?Could I swear on my life that I wasn’t keeping her for my own selfish reason—wanting to see her smile. Carefree. Happy.I wanted that. Not just for her but for me as well.No. I’ll find a way to make her stay.I opened the door. Maxwell was already there paci
Fiona’s POV I didn’t try to leave one hell only to climb into another. And he was right—I was using my health to force him to listen. But Isaiah just proved that he was unreasonable. But if I was going to escape Rogue Territory, I needed my strength. The treatment too. I can only hope that Grandma can hold on.The door opened, and that woman—Kaylan—stepped inside.“Kaylan?” I rushed over to meet her. “How are you here?”She was holding a tray of fruits. All my favourites. My throat locked. It was obviously from Isaiah.“Did he send you here?”Her eyes softened as we both stepped inside. “My lady… Lord Isaiah cares for you. Can you stop making him a little angry? Hmm? He did save your life.”“So what if he saved me? That didn’t give him the right to make me his prisoner.”Kaylan only sighed. That kind of sigh you give when you know the situation was obviously hopeless. She led me to sit. “I think you keep misunderstanding His Majesty. He actually cares for you.”“Care? He definitely h
Isaiah’s POVFiona was seated at the edge of the bed. She looked even thinner now. Staring at the sunlight streaming in from the window.I exhaled. She still hadn’t eaten. On the nightstand was a bowl of medicine that looked like she had no intention of touching.Initially, I wanted to come in find a way to persuade her. But how could someone disregard her life like this because of others?“Fiona!” I called her name. She didn’t turn. Just ignored me like I didn’t exist.I walked over to her and stood in front of her—blocking the sunlight that seemed more important than me.“Move!”“Fiona, You actually dared to refuse the treatment.”She only blinked. No response.“Good. Very good. You want death so badly? You won’t have it.”I grabbed the bowl from the table and chugged the entire drink into my mouth. Fiona stared at me with confusion—until I cupped the back of her neck and closed my mouth against hers. She winced when I pinched her, letting her lips part as she swallowed the medicine
Isaiah’s POVI had never seen Fiona so angry. And when she told me that she hated me… I wanted more than anything for her to take back those words. But I let my pride and my ego make me restrain myself.Besides, with the way she was fuming, she would not listen.Even the healer I sent there was kicked out. She was skipping meals. The poison had not even been neutralised yet. Fiona… why do you have to be so difficult?“Alpha, you are reading the file from the wrong position.”I snapped back into the present only to find Maxwell standing beside me. He gestured to the file I was holding. Since I went to the Nightshade, my workload as Alpha had tripled. And now with Fiona occupying my every thought… I might not even be able to finish them.I placed the file back, noticing the handwriting was upside down. I needed a distraction.“Alpha, is this about that woman? Should I go bring her here?”Maxwell was already this close to leaving, but I called after him. “Not now. Maxwell… I’m fine. She
Fiona's POVHe was out of his mind if he thought I was going to stay here quietly. He had ruined my plans. That didn't give him the right to keep me locked up like some toy.The sun was beginning to rise. On the table was a meal I hadn't even touched, even though my stomach had been rumbling all day. I couldn't touch it.No appetite. And a part of me wondered if the food had been tempered with. From time to time, the servants came in, staying just long enough to see if I had eaten."Let me out! Isaiah, let me out!"It was crazy to even attempt this after he had already told me bluntly that he was never going to let me go back to the Nightshade Pack. But I needed to go back. To my grandma. She was all I had left. I had already made the mistake of poisoning myself, and the least I could do was fix the mess Isaiah had made."Isaiah, if you can hear this, please let me out."All I got was the empty silence that came from the hallway. Low, subtle. Still. My forehead pressed against the woo
Chapter 71: The Woman in the Portrait Isaiah’s POV The door slammed shut after I left Fiona to cool off. I saw traces of disdain in her eyes. It didn’t matter. Not to me. She would hate me for caging her. Keeping her against her own will. But if this cage was going to keep her safe and protect her… then I would hold onto the keys even more. Maxwell perched at the corner, one knee propped out. My Beta. “Your Majesty. You brought her here. What do you mean by this?” Maxwell had always been against Fiona—especially after we both found out how useful she was. No wonder that Beta Magnus was desperate to get his paws on her. Maxwell’s feet pounded the floor—sharp and hard—trailing after me the way he always did whenever I tried to ignore him. “Alpha.” He called. Now I knew he was getting a little too serious. I walked inside my study and gestured. “Lock the doors.” Maxwell rolled his eyes before he marched over and slammed it hard. My lips twitched. “Welly, if you break my door
