LOGINCecile's POVStanding in front of the old house, I thought that by the second time I'd be coming here, it would be less threatening. I guess I am wrong."After you," Delilah says. I pretend not to hear her. The last time I came here, an arrow flew straight at me immediately after I walked through the front door. I'm not ready to risk myself again so I wait for her to go in first. "Go on," Delilah says and nudges me forward. I turn to her, frowning. "Fine." Looking back at the house, I take courageous steps to the front porch and knock. Looking down the empty street, I have this eerie feeling. I won't be surprised if I find a ghost here. The door opens with a squeal, showing us into the dark house. "Last time, an arrow shot straight at me when I walked through the door. So just be careful. There could be more traps around."Delilah's mouth parts open in surprise. She nods. "Sure."We both walk into the house, and there's no shooting arrows. Still, I keep an open eye. Just as I'm
Delilah's POVCecile and I both stare at each other quietly. We stand face to face in the bathroom, waiting."Do you think this will work?" Cecile asks. "Yes," I reply to her. "Just wait."We fall into silence for another two minutes before a knock comes on the bathroom door. It sounds twice and the door handle starts shaking."Now! Now!" I tell Cecile and she comes close to me.I start making retching sounds like someone who's throwing up. She makes sure her voice is loud enough as she comforts me."It's okay, you'll be fine. I'll get you some medication... Oh no... What did you eat last night?... Please don't faint... Delilah? Delilah... Stay with me, Delilah..."Her tone holds a genuine concern, enough to fool anyone. I pause my retching for some seconds."Have some water," Cecile says. I count seven seconds then make a loud retching sound. "Oh no! Please don't... Open your eyes, Delilah. Don't leave me like this..." she cries.I look at her, surprised at how serious she sounds."
Delilah's POVI stare at my reflection in the bathroom mirror, holding my toothbrush in one hand. If General Kane wanted to come and save me, he would have been here by now. Of course, he knows I'm still alive. He wouldn't have sent me through the staff of Doom if he thought it was going to kill me. So why isn't he here? Anyway, I have to find a way to save myself. Cecile is going in search of an oracle later this morning. What if she doesn't see one? What if we remain stuck here forever? What if they discover our secret and torment us?*Knock *knock I flinch at the sound as my mind skips, taking me out of my thoughts. I've forgotten I'm supposed to leave the bathroom so Cecile can have her bath. I quickly finish brushing my teeth. Later, when we're ready to leave the house, I speak to Cecile privately at the dining table. "So the plan is simple, find a trusted oracle but don't give them any details of our situation yet. I will join you to do that. You know, in case they want to a
Delilah's POV Cecile hasn't spent a full day here and she's about to get us exposed. What happened to her talkative nature now? Why can't she answer Jake's question? Why shouldn't I be comfortable here?I really don't want to bail her out of the question, but both of us are in this mess together. Causing problems for her will only create problems for me."We're only visitors here and Cecile can't wait for us to go home. She just doesn't want me to get carried away. That's all""But you're just arriving here, Cecile," Jake says to her."Yes, but there's no place like home right?" She says and flashes him a fake smile. He nods in agreement. "Hi guys!" Denise greets us as she joins us. "Are we set to... " She pauses on seeing Cecile, and a thoughtful expression crosses her face. "Are you Cecile?" "Yeah," Cecile responds. "Nice to meet you! Delilah has told me a lot about you. You're her younger cousin right?" Cecile's mouth hangs open and she glances at me briefly before nodding. "Y
Cecile's POVSo this is what the human world is like? I continue staring out the window of Delilah's friend's car as we drive down to their workplace. The buildings are lined up close together, and the place is crowded with people. I look at Delilah who is seated at the front. We haven't properly talked since I arrived. We haven't had the chance to. So I just sit in the back of the car with many questions I have."We're here!" Jake announces when we arrive at their workplace. A big bold sign in front reads, "Pam's eatery."It's such a relief that Delilah had some extra clothes for me to change into. The hospital robe was surely going to make me look out of place.Jake comes out of the car and locks it. He walks in front of us and I hold Delilah back, standing beside her."What am I supposed to do here? Are you sure it's safe for me?""Yes, Cecile. I wouldn't have asked you to come here if it wasn't." Her voice is calm and reassuring so I believe her. When I get into the building, th
Cecile's POV A heavy force compresses all over me. It's like I'm not in control of my body. My mind is clouded with darkness and a cold that pierces through my bones. Where am I? Suddenly, a wave of water starts to flood my nostrils and I push myself upward instinctively. Thankfully my head breaks above the layer of water, getting into the air. My chest constricts as I get into a fit of coughing. The waves sway me and push me until I'm completely submerged underneath the water. My nostrils get flooded again and this time I'm not able to stop it. My breath seizes and I fall unconscious. A sharp pain in my chest wakes me up. Water rises up my throat and forces its way out of my mouth. I start coughing up the rest as a burning sensation arises in my throat and chest. The people around continue to move in a rowdy manner. I don't realise I'm lying on a stretcher until they lift me up with it and put me in the back of a van. "You're going to be fine, okay? Just breathe..." A lady says
