Chapter 2

Ellie.

"Mum, I am not going back to that school. I almost died, Mum. Everyone is creepy and ...." My mind wanders to those huge wolves, and my heart skips. Lisa said vampires and witches go there, too.

Fuck, it's not safe for me at all.

My mum doesn't say a word. She just stares at me, and I don't miss the amusement dancing in her eyes.

"Why is that? Couldn't you even stay for a whole day?" my mum laughs, and I glare at her. I found myself back home when I woke up, and I have never felt so relieved. I have no idea why she isn't taking this seriously. She should be freaking out, too.

"Please, let me go back to my former school," I hopefully whisper, but she smirks in return. Something seems off with her. My mom will freak out if I come home with the slightest scratch. Why is she amused when my life is clearly in danger today?

Oh f*ck, what if those people bewitched her?

"No. I paid a huge amount of money to have you enrolled. You are staying, and that's final."

"But..." I start to argue, but the sound of the doorbell stops me. My mum signals for me to open it, and I grumble but do it anyway.

She is always controlling. Does she even know what is happening out there at all? She is unknowingly pushing me to my death. Her only child.

"Who is it, baby?" Mum yells behind me, and I stare at the boys at the doorstep in confusion. Should I let them in?

That scent again. Those green, dreamy eyes.

"Oh! Sh*t," her voice whispers behind me, and I turn to look at her surprised face. "What are you guys doing here?" my mum pulls me behind her and harshly faces the trio at the door step.

"So, you know us?" the twin with tattoos quickly asks, and the hope in his voice and eyes is so clear. I can't believe they followed me to my home. These creepy people.

"Of course, I know you; I gave birth to you." I gasp at her words, and my gaze lands on the two boys. Are they my brothers? "Does your father know you are you are...?"

"What are they talking about, Mum?" I cut her off because everything is becoming more confusing.

"Sweetheart, listen..."

"No. I want to know. You said we don't have a family. You told me my father left us..."

"He f*ck*ng did" my mum throws her hands up in frustration and walks back in the house. F*ck, now that I look at them, we have the same black curly hair.

I follow mum to the living room, but I don't close the door, and the boys follow us in.

The woman I have known all my life is currently pacing around the room as she continuously curses.

"Goddess!" Someone murmurs, and I don't look behind me to see who.

"Those idiots messed with my life big tine. I am not scared of them anymore. I will be back and I will ruin everyone who hurt me" she yells and I wonder what she's talking about.

"The reason I took my baby to that school, was me telling them that we f*ck*ng exist. I dare anyone to look at her. I dare you to do to her what you creepy males do to your mates." Mum daringly chuckles as she glares at Zane.

What does she mean by that?

" You are bethroted to a witch, right?" My mum approaches Zane, and for some reason, my heart aches.

He has a fiancée? A witch?

"Yes, but I won't marry..."

"Come on, are you confident you will go against your father and his council and win?. As far as I know, all the low-rank she-wolves go through the same thing when they are mated to high ranks. They are rejected, and then reduced to breeders, and most of them end up dead after giving them heirs."

What is she talking about?

"We already have an alliance with the witches. My elder sister is mated to the vampire prince. So, the marriage is not necessary." Zane says, but my mum shakes her head refusing to believe his words.

"Does your father know about her?"

"Yes, I just called him."

"And?"

"He wants to meet her. There will be a meeting tomorrow at school, and all leaders will be present. He said he will meet her then."

"What time?"

"10 a.m."

"Great. I will be there when he meets her."

We silently watch as my mum takes the stairs to her room, and it doesn't take long before the sound of her low sniffles reaches our ears.

F*ck. I share glances with the boys, and I still can't believe they are her kids too. Is she crying because she lost them or something?

But they are here, she is supposed to be happy about it, right? What did she mean by low rank she-wolves are turned to breeders? And how did they mess her up?

"I am going after her. I need answers?" The twin with tattoos says before I can do that myself. I need answers too.

The boy has his fists clenched, and there is dark fur already forming on his skin. If I didn't attend that school today, I would be freaking out right now.

"We have lived all our lives knowing she died. Why did they lie to us?"

"I am coming too." The other twin rushes towards the stairs before I can stop him, and I cross my fingers. No one goes near my mum when she is angry. She has a short temper, and when she snaps, she does the unimaginable.

The other one follows his brother after a minute, and I remain on my feet feeling so much lost.

"What was that all about?" my shaky voice asks the quiet guy who takes the couch with a deep sigh.

Something is happening.I can feel it.

"Nothing you should worry about. You are my mate, and I will protect you"

"Protect me from what? Am I in danger or something?"

"No" the guy quickly gets up and takes my hands in his. They feel so warm and tingly. Strange. I just stare at him. He is so beautiful but he has a fiancee. " No one will touch you when I am here. Believe me" Zane whispers and I swear, his words are scaring the sh*t out of me.

"What did my mum mean when she said low ranked women are turned to breeders?" I ask as I pull away from him.

"You shouldn't worry about that. Just trust me" Zane refuses to tell me and I slump in the couch in defeat.

My mind can't keep calm. I knew something was off as soon as I entered that school.

The strange world that I just discovered exists. The world of werewolves and mates.

A world where low-ranked women are only used as breeders and then killed afterwards. I can feel his eyes on me, but I don't dare look up. Lisa was right, their world is so messed up, and I have a feeling it's going to drown me whole.
