Se connecterIm watching tv when I hear a knock at the door. I wonder who that could be, my mother isn’t due until next week and it would surprise me if she came early given her busy schedule.
I head over to the small wood door and look through the glass hole to see who’s there. I recognize the man standing outside, he’s the one who saved me the other night, Ben. I open the door. Ben is dressed in regular clothing, jeans, and a t-shirt. Without the fire suit on I can see Ben has a lot of muscle in his arms. Stop thinking about his arms. I wonder what he is doing here. “Hello” I greet him. “Hello, I am sorry to intrude.” Ben begins, “but I was worried about you out here all alone especially after the fire and just wanted to see how you were doing.” It’s been a while since anyone’s come to visit me. “Do you want to come in?” I ask. “I would love too” he said his green eye lighting up a bit. I think it’s sweet he’s been thinking about me. I move over to let him through the door. My place only has two rooms. The first room is split into a small living area with a couch with a tv and the other half has a small kitchen with a table and appliances. The second room is a bedroom with a walk off bathroom, there’s a hidden basement where we keep our witchy stuff. “This is cozy” he said looking around. “Yeah, it’s alright” I answer it took me a while to appreciate this place. “So, what brings you over here?” “You’ve made me curious” he admitted. “About what?” I said nervously. “I don’t believe your story about how the fire started the other night” he began “that wasn’t an electrical fire.” “How do you know?” I asked putting my hands on my hips. “I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I’ve put out many fires, including real electrical fires” he said, “and that’s not what they look like.” He was starting at me so intently it was starting to make me nervous. “You wouldn’t believe me even if I told you the truth” I said looking away. Not like I could tell him anyways. “Try me” he answered taking a step closer to me. I have never told anyone outside of my family about my secret. I am not sure if I was being isolated for months, but I felt as though I could trust him. I am not sure if it was smoke inhalation or isolation but I decided to tell him the truth. “I started it by accident and this is going to sound crazy” I started “I have powers, and I can light fires. I haven’t learned how to control it yet.” For a while Ben just started blankly at me. I am not sure if he believed me or thought I was a nut case. “Really?” He said finally. He was hard to read. “Yes, it’s why I am out here.” I continued “I am dangerous, and I have to stay away from others.” “You don’t look very dangerous to me” he said. “Well, that fire was caused by me and that was dangerous” I said, “do you believe me?” “I believe that you are either telling the truth, or you are completely insane.” He joked. “Which one is it” I asked. He was starting to make me nervous. “Are you a witch?” He asked not answering my question. “Yes” I answered not sure if that was smart. “And your power is controlling fire?” He questioned. “You don’t seem that alarmed” I asked beginning to get frustrated. Did he know about witches? “What if I told you, you aren’t the first witch I have met.” He revealed. That explained all the questions and why he was suspicious of me in the first place. He knew an already knew about the existence of witches. Another witch must have trusted him enough to tell him their secret. What if Ben was also a witch and he wasn’t telling me the truth? “Who else have you met that is a witch?” I asked. It’s possible I knew the person. The witch community is quite small. “I can’t tell you that, it’s not my secret to tell” he said, “I have something for you in my truck.” In a small way it made me feel better that he was keeping this secret. It’s a bad sign when someone tells you other peoples secrets. It means they mostly likely won’t keep the things you tell them secret. We head outside and Ben looks at the shed that is tilting like it’s about to fall over. “That doesn’t look good” he said. “No, it’s not. Someone is coming to fix it” I told him. “I can help you fix the shed” Ben said walking to his truck. “Really?” I asked following him. “I’ll order the supplies, and you call me when they come in” he told me. I give him my cellphone, and he saved his number under my contacts. He reaches into his truck and pulls out a jar and gives it to me. “What is this?” I asked. Inside the jar there was lavender, sage and a black rock. It looks like some kind of spell. “This will help you control your powers” he told me. “How do you know about power controlling spells?” I asked. Who was this guy? “I can’t tell you all my secrets at once” he smiled. “So far you have told me none of your secrets” I said sarcastically. “You have to be patient” he said. “How do I know I can trust you?” I said beginning to think telling him my secret might have been a mistake. Great another thing my mom can be disappointed in me for. “You don’t have much of a choice now do you” he smiled. “I guess you’re right” I said rolling my eyes, I had no choice but to trust him now. “Where are you from?” He asked. “A small town called Pembroke, what about you?” “I am from a small town called; Vulcan it’s in Alberta” he told me. “Wow you’re a long way from home” I said. “Sometimes not far enough” he said looking away. “What are you doing here?” I asked. “It’s a long story and I should get going” he told me. Of course, just as I was starting to find things out about him, he decides to leave. “I’ll call you when the supplies get here” I told him. “Perfect, I can’t wait” he said and gets in his truck. Before he leaves, he smiles at me one last time.“I feel like you aren’t telling me everything” Tyler said during the car ride. He knew I was an awful liar. “I don’t have time to explain everything to you right now” I snapped and I didn’t want to anyways. “We have some time and you look like you need to get some things off your chest. Come on you know I’m here for you.”“If you thought I was crazy you before” I laughed, “you might thing I belong in a nut house now.”“No, I’ll believe you no matter how crazy it all sounds- I promise.” He sounded sincere. I started to tell him about my soul living forever and how I’d been around for over 500 years. I told him about all the lives I’d lived; even the one I where I was a hunter. Then I told him about how I screwed things up with both Ben and Rod; which in some weird way was the most painful part. “Tyler I was responsible for building the hunter army that is hurting all those witches.”“Clara you know that wasn’t your fault right?”“That’s where you’re wrong. I was their lea
I’m back outside my bunkie, oh how I missed this place and the days where all I had to worry about was lightning forests on fire. I turn around and the shed hasn’t been burnt down yet. It worked and the crystal is gone just like the dragon told us. Even though I am not in any immediate danger I want to talk to my mother as soon as I can. I call her cell phone- no answer, we were going to have a serious talk about this. On the bright side, now I had an idea of where to look for her. But I needed help, going alone would be too dangerous and I only had once chance at this. Now that I know how to teleport I travel to the cabin where Ben’s staying, this is going to come in handy. I spot his motorcycle and the small fire truck out front; good he’s here. I run up to the door and knock hard. “Hello” he opened the door. Once he saw who I was there was a flicker of disbelief. They say you have one second to see someone’s true reaction on their face and I know he recognizes me. “B
I remember the kings voice warning me “not all the lives are good.” Like he knew all along, but didn’t want to tell me. I turn towards him and he has a shameful look on his face “why didn’t you warn me.”“Somethings you have to find out on your own Clara” he sad sadly. I had one life left to remember and it was the worst one I’d ever lived; it also happened to be my last life. I was a hunter and not just one of them, their leader. I’m so ashamed I once fell to dark magic and even worse - Damien was my lover. I had helped him slaughter so many witches. Or more like he had helped me. Tears came to my eyes, I was the reason they were so strong. Damien was in a different body which explains why I didn’t recognize him before. His soul was too evil, I had blocked him out. It was my idea to create the ritual with the elemental powers. All of this was my fault. The evil I created got my mother and Hope killed. A small part of me missed the feeling of being so powerful from stealing
Why should I make a deal with you when I can just melt you and take the crystal once you’re dead” I yelled.“Because before you kill me I can take down at least one of your friends, I suspect you don’t want that. Plus I have something to offer you” he pleaded. “How do I know you won’t betray me like everyone else” I screamed. “Clara, your anger is not with him, he is but a protector” the king whispers to me. “We can’t trust him. He did eat me.” The last time the king and I were looking for the crystal it was for our own personal gain. “His job is to protect this magic at all costs. This crystal in the wrong hands could destroy the world- you know that.”“Listen to the old man” the dragon hissed. King Salazar was a wise man, I’d learnt many lives ago to trust him. “What can you offer me?” I pushed the magma back into the earth, I’d spare him for now. “I will give you one of my scales, they are indestructible and can be used to create potions you’ve never heard of” he of
“Thank you for freeing us” they spoke, “too long were we under control by that horrendous demon, watching all those poor people being murdered.”Have they been trapped here all these years? It must have been hundreds of years since the king and I had been here last. “We are glad to help, would you mind pointing us in the direction of a safe camp?” the king asked. “Please stay the night here. We will keep you safe, our magic is strong. It’s why the demon consumed us.” The trees creaked around us but they did not move. “Thank you, then it is settled we will make camp here for the night ” the king takes off his backpack pulling out a small tent. It doesn’t take us long to set up camp with our small sleep tents. I start a fire for us, the trees groan at the smoke. If I didn’t know any better it seemed like they wanted me to put the fire out. “Don’t worry, I won’t let it burn you” I whispered. The trees seemed to calm with my reassurance. The king and Tyler join me around th
The next morning I wake before dawn just like we planned. I grab the survival pack I assume one of the servants left for me at my door and sneak out of the palace. I find Tyler and the king waiting for me at our agreed upon location just outside the city. The king’s absence would only upset his people so he had a few trusted soldiers covering for him. I didn’t say goodbye to either Rod or Ben, they were both furious with me. Good thing I was probably going to die and would never have to face either of them again. “Where’s Rod?” Tyler asked. “He’s not coming” I shot him a glance and he knew not to ask why.“Are we ready then?” King Salazar asked, “I don’t want to be gone from my people for long.”Tyler and I nodded. I was grateful he was coming at all. The king downs a potion and his tail is replaced with two human legs. “I was wondering how you were going to walk up a mountain” Tyler said. We all hold hands and I picture the bottom of the Appalachian mountain. There’s
The next morning, I wake up groggy, the strange words from my mother's journal haunting my once peaceful dreams. My plan today is to find Ben and I’m going to do whatever it takes. I get up and put the kettle on. I hear my moms voice in my head “ a strong day starts with a strong drink.” I was ne
Something hits me over the head. The last thing I remember before blacking out is hitting the ground. I wake up on a hard bed. My head is pounding. I feel the back of my head where I got hit and I am bleeding.I sit up, there are bars across the way out. Am I in a prison?“Oh thank god you’re
I have never read anything like this before. It must be dark magic. “Taking a witches blood is how you separate their soul from their bodies. It is a process that takes months. The process involves..”I flip the page and the rest are blacked out with ink. Who would do this to the pages? Is that w
“I found a book in your library that caught my interest about a crystal you can use to travel through time,” I started “I want to find it and I suspect you know where it might be.”“I know where it is, and so do you, this isn’t the first time we’ve looked for this crystal together.”I was having
