Evelyn's POV

Long after Teresa left, I sat in bed, the words I’d rehearsed tumbling in my head for the umpteenth time.

‘Dominic, we need to talk.’

Too formal.

‘I think we should separate.’

Too cold.

No matter how I phrased it, it sounded wrong. Like I was cutting out a piece of myself.

I rubbed my temples and tried again under my breath. “Dominic, I just think you deserve—”

The door opened before I could finish.

Dominic stepped in. “Deserve what?” he asked, one brow raised.
