Meeting destiny

Jessica’s story

Stephanie was always trying to help no matter what. I don’t really know if this friend medium of hers can do something. At least we could try. The next morning we took her car and drove to a small neighborhood with not so friendly faces. I must have been a little scared looking at the surroundings. A cat knocked over a dumpster and a scream left my lips and echoed between the blocks.

-          Don’t tell me you are not scared of a vampire but you are scared of a little kitten.

-          I am sorry, it startled me. I mean who knocks a dumpster anyway?

Another few seconds of silence passed and I got the feeling we were getting closer.

-          Thank you for remaining with me last night, Steph!

-          Don’t mention it honey.

-          What is this place?

-          This is where Coral lives.

-          Coral?

-          That is her name.

This woman’s name, Coral, was so unusual. Stephanie had no unusual friends so I keep wondering where she could have met her.

-          How did you meet her, anyway?

-          Back in high school, I just knew there was something odd about her. She was bullied by everyone, except for me. I got her attention and we become close.

-          Did you ever believe in her powers?

-          At first no, but in time she told me things about my dead father that only are known by me.

-          I guess she is genuine then…

-          Trust me, she is!

We crossed the road quickly right into a dark alley. At the end of it was a small cottage like you only see in movies. All green and white, stylish, two entrances, one in front of us the other on the left side. A few dried flowers were at the window facing us and a low green fence was surrounding the house. Yet a strange air and a perhaps stranger feeling greeted us a few steps away from the hut as if it was out of some sort of witch movie.

-          Wow, is this the place?

-          You like it?

-          I don’t know what to say about it, it is…interesting.

-          Come on, let us go inside.

A pungent smell of incense hit me right at the door. It was like a mixture of myrrh with notes of lavender. I must say it was relaxing but at the same time it gave you chills down your spine. We just walked inside uninvited, Stephanie dragging me through the hallway.

-          Can we do that?

-          Of course we can, I am her only true friend, remember? I have exclusivity.

A small laughter lit up Stephanie’s face. After the tiny hallway there was a single room and Coral was in it. To be sincere I was expecting some kind of which look, but the girl before my eyes was so normal and natural that I forgot to close my mouth.

-          Welcome, Jessica! I was expecting you!

Hearing my name on her lips was so odd yet I feel drawn to this young girl. Ok, maybe she knew stuff about me; maybe it was time to listen and take notes. One look at Coral was enough to realize she was genuine. Her red dark hair was covering her shoulders in a delicate way that made my eyes trace her rebellious threads. I lowered my gaze on her clothes. Dressed like a gothic figure she imposes respect by her mere presence. My attention was caught also by her bold make-up with shades of intense black adorning her eyes and lips.  It was hard to believe that the same girl was bullied back in high school. She seemed nice and a person with whom you could talk almost everything. I wonder how much she knows about me.

-          You were?

-          Please, do come in!

The tension in that room was so vivid. I was trying to stay connected to my reality but this girl not only was about my age but she seemed to know a lot about me. I must admit that I never expected to be so friendly.

-          Did you tell her my name?

I whispered so low to Steph not sure if she heard me. Coral did instead.

-          No, she did not!

-          How could you possibly hear what I said?

-          I can do a lot of things. And I also can help you understand yourself.

Coral’s gaze turned to Stephanie and the whole tension dissipated. It was like they haven’t seen each other in ages.

-          Stephanie, it has been so long, how are you?

-          Yes indeed a long time. I am fine. And you?

-          Same all. As you know me, helping people.

-          Well, maybe you could help her too.

Steph motioned to me and Coral’s green eyes followed her hand. I felt intimidated by her intense and deep staring. She seemed to be reading my mind so I can’t help but feel exposed.

-          My dear Jessica, what you possess there is a great treasure. I know that maybe this is all new to you and hard to handle but you are in the right place.

-          And what is exactly that I possess?

-          It is called mystical magic and you only have a little part of it.

-          What do you mean by that? There is more from where that came from?

-          I mean it is not fully developed. The mystical magic consists of three distinct powers, the power of mind destruction that you have already experienced the power of seeing things that may happen in the future and the last one is the power of fire.

I was hearing Coral speaking but my mind refused to cope with all of this. If I have the power of mind destruction how will I figure out the rest of them? It was so overwhelming this entire magic thing. I felt dizzy and for some reason my body and mind refused to believe. If I have this power of destruction how much damage can I make?

-          Now that I got your attention, please can I offer you something to drink?

-          Are you serious?

-          About the drink?

-          I was talking about my powers…

-          Oh, yes of course. I am very serious.

By saying this Coral went to the mini bar far in the room and poured me a glass of purple liquid. She noticed my mistrust along with the grimace on my face so she continued.

-          I will tell you a little bit about every one of your powers. Never in my life had I expected to meet someone with all the three of them. Oh, and this is lavender liqueur, it will help you relax.

-          How do you know I have all three? And are there more people like me?

-          Give me your right arm!

I was trying not to get so overwhelmed with all she was saying to me. Slowly I stretched out my arm for Coral to take it.

-          You see this little crescent on your forearm?

-          I did not even know it was there…

-          It only appeared last night, after your manifestation. That is how I knew about you and that you have all three of them.

-          By a birthmark?

-          It is not a birthmark. And is not completed yet. It will fully grow after you develop the second power.  Yesterday, during your situation at the restaurant I had a vision of you.

-          How can you possibly know about what happened at Paul’s diner? Did Steph here tell you?
