ログイン“I will accept your offer to join your company. I will submit my resignation, but clearly it will take time, about a month for the process. Um, could you make it easier?” she asked Darwis.
“Of course. I’ll ask someone to speed up your paperwork. And yes, Alexi, my company is yours too because you are my wife’s daughter.” Darwis nodded in satisfaction.
“Thank you. I want to rest.” After the tense dinner, Alexi sat with her parents in the living room, while Hagia and Austin went upstairs.
“Take your time. When you feel better, just tell me and I’ll introduce you to our company,” Darwis said with a relieved smile. His muscular arm wrapped around his wife, pleased with Alexi’s decision.
Climbing the stairs toward her room, Alexi passed through darkness with no lights on. A room rarely used, as if it was proof that she was not truly part of the family. She and her mother were once strangers who had suddenly become members of a conglomerate family after her mother married Darwis Midaz.
After showering, still in a white bathrobe with wet hair, she stepped onto the balcony, letting her hair dry naturally.
Her gaze drifted as she replayed everything she had been through. Arron’s treatment, and now being trapped in a relationship with her stepbrother. “I hope he forgets what happened.” She looked out at the vast yard surrounding the house.
“Am I going to become a Midaz slave? This isn’t funny,” she muttered. She wanted a life without her stepfather’s shadow, but that was difficult, because she herself had asked to join his company.
She turned when she heard a window open from the next room. Her brows lifted when she saw Austin stepping out of Hagia’s room, his shoulders rising and falling, his breath heavy. “Did you just have hot sex?” she guessed.
Austin curved his lips into a grin and walked to the edge of the balcony to get closer to her. “If it was with you, girl.”
“Hissh. You maniac.” Alexi shuddered. Fragments of memory flooded her mind. The tearing sensation at her core throbbed painfully. She could not recall clearly how Austin had entered her, but from the pain alone she guessed he was skilled at pleasing women. She felt a sting of jealousy toward Hagia, who would get to see and feel Austin’s masculinity every day.
“Are you cold? Want me to warm you up?” Without warning, Austin swung his body and crossed the two-meter gap to Alexi’s balcony.
“Austin, what are you doing?” Alexi stepped back as he approached, breathing hard. She glanced behind him, afraid Hagia might see him. “Are you crazy? What if Hagia comes out?”
Ignoring her, Austin moved closer and touched the bandage on her forehead. “What happened?”
Alexi swatted his hand away and retreated. “Get out of here.” She turned, fear tightening her chest at the thought of Hagia stepping outside and seeing them. What would her sister think?
Austin grabbed her shoulders and pushed her inside the room.
“Get out, Austin.” Alexi glared at him, her eyes darting between him and the balcony window.
“Who did this to you?”
“None of your business,” Alexi snapped, still trying to shake his grip.
“Should I tell them that we slept together, spent the night together?”
“Are you threatening me?” Alexi lifted her chin, meeting his eyes and the menace in his voice.
“And I’m sure they’ll believe me more than you. They’ll think you’re cheap. Or is that the truth?” Austin remembered being left after they slept together, and his anger surged. “Do you think I’m a gigolo? You get what you want and then walk away?”
“Yeah, isn’t that what you are?” Alexi shoved him, forcing him back. “You already have a fiancée but you sleep with another woman. What’s the difference? All men are the same.”
She turned and walked to the edge of the bed. “Go back to your place, Austin. Forget what happened between us.”
“That easy?”
Alexi tilted her face away, not looking back. “Yes. That easy.”
Her decision was not easy for Austin to accept. “What happened to your head?”
“Answer me.” Austin stepped in and closed the window behind him. “Who hurt you?”
“It’s not important.”
“It’s important to me.” His tone sharpened.
“You’re Hagia’s future husband.”
The words struck like a slap.
“Don’t use Hagia to dodge me,” Austin hissed. “I didn’t leave you. You ran.” His fists clenched, muscles straining beneath his skin.
Silence spread. The wall clock ticked like a judge passing sentence.
Austin drew a breath. “That bandage. Tell me now.”
Alexi hesitated. “It’s my problem.”
“Alexi.”
“I fell.”
“You’re lying.”
She glared at him. “Why do you care?”
“Because I touched you,” Austin said. “And I can’t pretend it meant nothing.”
Alexi smiled faintly. “You’re good with words.”
“I’m honest. You know you were a virgin when I touched you.” He leaned in, whispering in her ear. “And I was the first man to touch you.”
Alexi’s body prickled, his warm breath brushing her skin. She remembered how he had touched her. A bitter smile formed on her lips. “Your honesty came too late.”
Austin stepped closer, the distance between them barely a span. “If I’m late, don’t make me lose the chance completely.”
“What chance?” Alexi whispered. “To make me your secret?”
Austin stiffened. “I’m not making you a secret.”
“But I’m still hidden,” Alexi replied softly, her smile tinged with pain.
Austin ran a hand through his hair in frustration. Then his gaze softened. “Tell me what this bandage is from.”
Alexi closed her eyes. “Don’t force me.”
“I will,” Austin said. “Because if someone touched you roughly…”
“Enough.” Alexi raised her hand. “Go. This will only make things more complicated.”
“No.” Austin shook his head. “I’m not leaving until you’re honest.”
Alexi opened her eyes. “If I’m honest, will you stop?”
“No.” He answered quickly. He touched her chin, his jaw tightening when he saw the white cloth stained with red. He brushed it gently. “If your injury has anything to do with me…”
“Stop,” Alexi cut in. “You’ve already made my life chaotic enough.”
Austin stepped closer. “Tell me one thing. After that night, do you regret it?”
Alexi fell silent for a long moment. Then she lifted her face and said, “Very much. I regret meeting you that night, even more that something happened that I never wanted.”
“You’re not good at lying, Lex. But I don’t regret it.” Austin grabbed her waist and pulled her into an embrace. He captured her lips, kissing her greedily and insistently.
Outside, footsteps approached down the hallway.
Alexi shoved Austin away, her heart pounding as she glanced toward the door. “Someone’s coming.”
Her body went rigid. “You have to go.”
Austin hesitated, then moved toward the window. Before climbing out, he turned back. “You still haven’t answered about your injury.”
Alexi opened her mouth, but the bedroom door began to creak open. “Austin,” she whispered urgently. “Go.”
The door handle was pressed from outside. Alexi shook her head slightly, her eyes darting wildly as a clear voice called out.
“Alexi.”
“Don’t meet so often at the office. It’s not good.” Hagia adjusted her appearance in front of the mirror, touching up her lipstick and applying the rest of her makeup.“You’re the one who challenged me. This is my office, I can do whatever I want.”Hagia rolled her eyes, catching the man’s silhouette behind her in the mirror.“Do I need to remind you who you really are, Hagia?”The voice struck straight into her chest. Her fingers tightened around her makeup bag, her jaw set hard.“You’re my puppet, so don’t defy me.” After saying that, the man turned and walked out.Hagia stared at the back of the man, far older than her, her gaze sharp, her hands clenched. “I hope Austin can free me from all of this. I want that old man dead so I can be free from being his slave. I’m sure he’s wanted my body for a long time.”**“Damn it, why does he want me to come? What does he mean by this? He must be doing it on purpose.” Inside the car, Alexi grumbled nonstop until she arrived at one of the sky
The door to Hagia’s office opened slowly after Alexi knocked twice. A soft throat-clearing sound came from inside, like someone trying to hide something.“Hey, Lex. Come in!” Hagia approached after putting on her blazer, her smile widening as she stood behind her father. “Dad, didn’t you say you had an appointment with Mr. Michael? You should go. I’ll talk to Alexi first,” she said, gently brushing her father’s arm.Darwis gave a short nod without shifting his gaze from Alexi. “Yes. If you have any difficulties, ask Hagia. She’ll help you, Lex.”Alexi watched the two of them, then nodded and stepped aside to let him pass. “Why do you both look like you’ve just seen a ghost?”Hagia let out a small laugh, too quickly. “No. We were just discussing company files. You showed up suddenly, so we were startled.”Alexi studied her stepsister’s face, then shifted her gaze to Darwis. Something was off. Too many forced expressions, too much silence that felt like it was hiding something.“Do you
"Why did you not listen to me? Why did you not tell me that bastard hurt you? Why did I have to hear it from someone else, Lex?""Quiet. Your wound is being treated." Alexi dabbed antiseptic on the gash in Austin’s shoulder. She was now in Austin’s apartment. "Why were you suddenly there?""I was sent to save you."Alexi stopped moving and lifted her gaze. Their faces were very close. She could see the darkness in his eyes. "Thank you."Austin curved a smile at the panic and relief mixed in her expression. "Only thank you? I saved your life, you know."Alexi pressed a wad of gauze on the torn flesh of Austin’s shoulder and the man yelped."Are you trying to kill me, Lex? This is your gratitude? Wow, I cannot believe this." Austin purposely made a sulking, pained face.Alexi’s lips quivered. If Austin had not come, she did not know what would have happened to her. Arron had been brutally torturing her. She stood abruptly, not wanting to be caught drowning in Austin’s gaze. But a firm h
“Damn it, why do I keep thinking about it,” Alexi muttered, running a hand through her hair as she stared at the rows of numbers on the monitor. “It’s too quiet.”It had been a week since she started working at her stepfather’s company. In that entire time, she hadn’t seen Austin or Hagia even once.Part of her felt relieved that no one was bothering her. But at the same time, she felt lonely. And somewhere deep inside, there was a hollow emptiness. Had she started getting used to Austin’s presence? She had to admit one thing to herself. Her heart was beating normally again. No burning gaze at the back of her neck.No deep voice appearing without warning near her ear.No mocking smile that made her both angry and embarrassed. Her life was straight again, orderly.Too orderly.“Finally done.” She stretched her arms overhead, trying to ease the tension in her muscles.By the time Alexi stepped out of the parking building, the sky was pitch black, without a single star. The night air fel
"Oh, no." Alexi answered quickly as she caught Austin's sharp gaze on her. "It is from someone else." She tossed her eyes away. Damn Austin. Why did he send a message like that? she grumbled silently."Then who is it, Lex?" Hagia demanded. Before Alexi could respond, Austin's phone rang. The man stood, glancing at her and Hagia. "I have to get back to my office.""Okay, I will walk you downstairs." Hagia moved toward her fiancé and they stepped out of the conference room.**"Stupid Austin. Why did he dump all this work on me until I am stuck pulling overtime alone like this?" Alexi muttered nonstop at the mountain of documents on her desk. Hagia could not stay because she had left the office that afternoon for a trip out of town. Typical. The woman was insanely busy."You are not alone." A man's voice answered from the corner.Alexi froze. She turned slowly, her heart banging hard when she saw a man standing in the doorway in a black shirt with sleeves rolled to the elbows, arms fold
“Austin, you really are insane," Alexi whispered shakily. It was not the cold air that made her voice tremble, but the heat of Austin's fingers tracing along her jaw. Her hand pressed lightly against his chest, more a formality than any real resistance."Why? We have not even moved yet." Austin answered low. His voice was deep, scraping down Alexi's spine and forcing a shiver out of her. He grasped her chin, holding her gaze to his."Did you forget where we are, huh?" Alexi tried another excuse, even though her thoughts were already fogging. "If someone comes and sees us then what?"Austin chuckled softly and lifted his hand from her smooth thigh. "These car windows are tinted. No one will see." He leaned closer, his breath warming her lips."Who told you to wear something like this, hm?""Austin." Alexi's tone sounded like a plea with no clear direction. She swallowed hard. "We should not...""We should not be seen," Austin finished. "That is different from not being allowed to do it
Alexi’s breath caught, her eyes darting uncertainly between the door and Austin, who remained unmoving. “Austin, please leave. There’s someone outside,” she pleaded.Austin stayed where he was, standing in front of Alexi, indifferent to her begging for him to go. He still had not gotten a definite
