I signed my life away with a shaking hand.

The pen felt heavy as I wrote my name on the marriage contract. At twentytwo years old, I had just become Mrs. Victor Langford. I was now the wife of a fifty eight years old billionaire. The thought made my stomach twist with deep regret. I should not have done this. I felt sick just thinking about it. But my family needed the money so badly. I had no other choice.

The lawyers quickly gathered their papers. “Everything is complete, Mr. Langford,” one of them said.

Victor gave a short nod. He looked tall and powerful in his dark suit. His face showed no emotion at all.

“Welcome to your new life, Ava,” he said in a cold voice. “You saved your family. Remember that.”

I kept my eyes down on the table. “Thank you,” I whispered. My voice sounded weak and small.

Victor checked his expensive watch. “I have a business dinner tonight. Do not wait up. Sleep in the master bedroom. I will come to you when I want you.”

I bit my lip hard. The idea of him touching me later made me feel sick to my stomach. An old man who was old enough to be my father. I had sold my body to him. “Okay,” I said quietly.

He turned and left without another word. The heavy door closed behind him with a loud click. I was completely alone in this huge penthouse.

I walked slowly through the rooms. Everything was so expensive. Marble floors shone under my feet. Beautiful furniture filled every space. Giant windows showed the bright lights of New York City far below. It looked perfect from the outside, but I felt trapped. This was not my home. This was my prison.

Tears filled my eyes as I thought about what I had done. I sold myself to an old man I did not love. I gave up my freedom, my dreams, and my future for money. The shame sat heavy in my chest like a rock. I kept asking myself the same question over and over. How did my life come to this?

I went into the master bathroom. It was bigger than my old apartment. I took a long hot shower. The water ran over my skin, but it could not wash away my guilt. No matter how hard I scrubbed, I still felt dirty. After the shower, I dried my body and put on a sheer black silk robe I found in the closet. The thin material felt too revealing. It clung to my body and barely covered my thighs. I felt exposed and uncomfortable, but I had nothing else to wear.

I stepped onto the wide balcony. Cool night air touched my skin. I held the glass railing tightly and stared at the glittering skyline. So many lights. So many people living normal lives. But here I was, alone and married to a man I barely knew.

“Why did I agree to this?” I said softly to myself. “He is old enough to be my father. I feel so dirty. I feel like a whore.”

I stayed outside for a long time. The cold wind made me shiver, but I did not want to go back inside. I kept thinking about Victor’s cold eyes and the way he spoke to me like I was just another business deal. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I wiped them away quickly.

At two in the morning, the private elevator chimed.

My heart jumped in my chest. Victor must have returned early. I wrapped my arms around myself and walked back into the living room. My legs felt weak.

Heavy footsteps came closer. A tall, powerfully built man stepped into the room. He wore a tailored black suit that fit his body perfectly. Dark hair, stormy gray eyes, and a sharp jaw. Tattoos showed at his open collar. He looked strong, dangerous, and very handsome.

His eyes moved slowly over my body. He stared at the sheer robe that hid almost nothing. Hunger and disgust filled his gaze at the same time.

“So you are the new stepmother,” he said. His voice was low and rough. “My father’s latest purchase.”

I took a small step back. My cheeks burned with fresh shame. “Who are you?” I asked quietly.

“Damien Langford,” he answered. “Victor’s son. And you?”

“I am Ava,” I said softly. “Ava Langford now.”

Damien gave a cold laugh. “Ava Langford. How much did my father pay for a young wife like you? Tell me the price.”

I looked down at the floor. I did not want to answer that. The words hurt too much. “Please,” I whispered. “I do not want any trouble. Just leave me alone.”

He walked closer. I backed up until my back touched the cold glass railing. He was so tall. He towered over me.

“Stay away from me,” I said in a small voice. My hands trembled at my sides.

“Why should I stay away?” he asked. “You married my father for his money. Now you stand here in this tiny robe like you are waiting for him. Does it make you feel good to be his whore?”

Tears stung my eyes again. “You do not understand,” I said. My voice shook badly. “My family was going to lose everything. We were going to be on the street. I had no choice. I feel sick about it every single day. I hate myself for doing this.”

Damien stepped even closer. His body heat reached me through the thin robe. “Look at me, Ava.”

I slowly lifted my eyes. His stormy gray eyes burned into mine. I felt trapped by his stare.

He tilted my chin up with rough fingers. His touch sent a strange spark through my body. I hated it. I should not feel anything like this. Not after what I had done.

“You are trembling,” he said. “Are you scared of me, stepmother?”

“Please let me go,” I whispered. “This is wrong. You should not touch me like this. I am married to your father.”

His thumb brushed slowly across my lower lip. The touch felt too intimate. My breath became fast and shallow. My heart pounded so hard I could hear it in my ears.

Damien leaned in closer. His face was only inches from mine. His voice dropped even lower. “Answer me one thing, Ava.”

I could not speak. I just stared at him, frozen in place.

  • Forbidden Obsession: Falling for My Stepson   Ava’s Solitary Stand

The knock on the safehouse door came at 2:17 a.m. and I knew Julian had found me before I even checked the camera.I grabbed the gun from the nightstand and moved quietly to the monitor. Maya slept in the next room under the watch of two guards. The Paris safehouse was supposed to be off the grid. Thick walls. No windows on the lower floors. Yet here he was. Julian De Witt stood outside in a dark coat rain dripping from his shoulders. He looked straight into the camera like he knew I was watching.I pressed the intercom button. “What do you want Julian? You have no business here.”His voice came back smooth and calm. “Open the door Ava. We need to talk. Alone. Your daughter is safe for now. I give you my word.”I laughed short and bitter. “Your word means nothing. Leave before I call the guards.”He did not move. “If I wanted to take her I would have done it already. This is about choices. Ope

  • Forbidden Obsession: Falling for My Stepson   The Rotterdam Exchange

The dock lights cut through the fog like knives and I knew Julian’s men would kill me on sight if they spotted me first.I crouched behind a stack of shipping containers my back against cold metal. The Rotterdam docks smelled of salt and diesel. Rain mixed with the river water under my boots. I had left Ava in the safehouse in Paris with strict orders to stay put. She had fought me on it but I needed her safe with Maya. This job was mine alone. The container Julian wanted sat under a single spotlight fifty yards away. Guards walked slow circles around it. I checked my watch. Three minutes until the next shift change. Time to move.A low voice crackled in my earpiece. “Damien you there? I have eyes on two more guards at the east gate. You sure about this?”I whispered back keeping my head down. “I am sure. Just keep the boat ready. If this goes bad I need a fast exit.”The voice belonged to an old contact from my

  • Forbidden Obsession: Falling for My Stepson   Trapped in the Catacombs

The flashlight beam caught the skull wall just as the first gunshot echoed through the narrow tunnel and I knew we had walked straight into Julian’s trap.I grabbed Charlotte’s arm and pulled her behind a pile of bones as Damien fired back. The air smelled of dust and old death. The Paris Catacombs stretched around us like a maze of the dead. We had come here to meet Charlotte in secret thinking the underground tunnels would keep us hidden from Julian’s men. Instead they had followed us down. The mercenary team moved fast their boots scraping on the stone floor.“Stay low,” Damien shouted over the noise. “They want us alive. Do not give them a clear shot.”Charlotte pressed against the wall her voice shaking. “I told you this was a bad idea. I should have stayed in my studio. Who are these people?”I crouched beside her keeping my body between her and the gunfire. “Julian De Witt&rs

  • Forbidden Obsession: Falling for My Stepson   Charlotte’s Warning

Charlotte slammed her paintbrush down on the table and stared at me like I was the problem she never asked for.I stood in the middle of her small studio in Montmartre with rain still dripping from my coat. The place smelled of turpentine and fresh coffee. Canvases leaned against every wall showing city streets and faces full of life. Charlotte wiped her hands on an old rag her dark hair tied back loose. She looked nothing like the polished people from Victor’s world. She looked real. Tired. Like someone who had already decided the Langford name meant trouble.“You really came all this way,” she said crossing her arms. “After everything you told me last night. Sit down before you drip water all over my floor.”I pulled out a wooden chair and sat. The rain tapped against the window making the small room feel even smaller. “I had to. Julian De Witt is moving fast. He showed us the contract. He thinks he can use you

  • Forbidden Obsession: Falling for My Stepson   The Phantom of Montmartre

The rain came down in sheets over Montmartre and I knew we were chasing more than just a name.I pulled my coat tighter around me as Damien and I hurried down the narrow cobblestone street. Water soaked through my shoes but I kept moving. Paris at night felt alive and dangerous all at once with the fog rolling in thick and the lights from little cafes cutting through the mist. We had landed only hours ago and already we were on the hunt for Charlotte Vance. The artist who might be Victor’s secret daughter. The half sister we never knew existed.Damien kept close his shoulder brushing mine. “The gallery owner said she works late most nights. This should be the place. You ready for this?”I nodded gripping his arm. “Ready as I will ever be. What do we even say to her? Hey your dad was a monster who hid you from the world and now his old business partners want to use you like a chess piece?”He let out a short laug

  • Forbidden Obsession: Falling for My Stepson   The Parisian Flight

The private jet engines roared to life and I gripped Damien’s hand so tight my knuckles turned white knowing we were leaving our baby girl behind in a city full of enemies.I sat across from Damien in the leather seats of the jet our knees almost touching in the small cabin. The city lights of New York faded below us as we climbed into the night sky. Maya was safe back in the penthouse with layers of security we trusted with our lives but every mile we flew away from her felt like a knife in my chest. I had kissed her sleeping face a hundred times before we left whispering promises I hoped I could keep. Now the plane carried us toward Paris and the truth about Victor’s secret daughter. We had to find her before Julian used her to tear everything apart.Damien leaned forward his eyes locked on mine. “You okay love? We can still turn back if this feels wrong.”I shook my head swallowing the lump in my throat. “No. We hav

The photo on my phone felt like a bomb waiting to explode.I could not stop staring at the image of Damien and me kissing at the gala. Victor’s question hung in the air like a loaded gun.“Damien,” Victor repeated in that dangerously calm voice. “Did you touch my wife while I was gone?”My heart slammed against my ribs so hard I thought I might faint. I stood frozen between the two men. The mark on my neck suddenly felt like a bri
