The Arrival

One look from him, and I knew this summer would either be the best thing that ever happened to me or the mistake that destroyed everything.

The private car rolled to a stop on the sweeping driveway of the Voss estate, and I stepped out into the warm coastal air, my sundress fluttering against my thighs. The cliffside villa rose up like something out of a dream, all glass and stone overlooking the crashing waves. But none of that mattered the second I saw him.

John Voss climbed out of the infinity pool at the edge of the terrace, water sliding down his broad chest and over the hard lines of his stomach. Forty-two years old, dripping wet, and looking like he owned the entire ocean behind him. My mouth went dry. I had known Mia’s father my whole life, but this was different. This time I wasn’t the shy little girl tagging along anymore. I was eighteen, and every buried fantasy I’d ever had about him came rushing back all at once.

“Liana!” Mia screamed, running down the wide stone steps in her tiny shorts and bikini top. She crashed into me with a hug that nearly knocked us both over. “Finally! I thought you’d never get here. This place is insane, right? Dad went all out this year.”

“Yeah, insane,” I said, forcing my eyes away from John as he grabbed a towel. He was watching me. I could feel it.

Mia looped her arm through mine and dragged me toward the house. “Come on, you have to see your room. It’s right next to mine. We’re going to party every single night. Dad even hired a chef for the whole week. No rules, babe.”

As we climbed the steps, John walked over, still towel-drying his hair. Up close he smelled like salt water and expensive cologne. His eyes, dark and intense, met mine for a long second.

“Liana,” he said, voice low and smooth. “Good to see you again. You made it in one piece.”

“I did,” I answered, smiling up at him. “Thanks for inviting me, Mr. Voss. This place is beautiful.”

He gave a small nod, but his gaze lingered. “You’re always welcome here. And drop the Mr. Voss. Just John is fine.”

Mia laughed. “See? I told you he’s chill this summer. No work talk allowed. Right, Dad?”

“Trying my best,” John replied, but the corner of his mouth twitched like he was holding back a real smile. “You girls hungry? Dinner’s in an hour on the terrace.”

“Starving,” Mia said. “Liana, go change into something cute. There’s this local guy coming later. Super hot. You need to meet him.”

I laughed along with her, but my mind was somewhere else entirely. “Sure. Can’t wait.”

An hour later I stood in front of the mirror in my room, heart hammering. I chose a light sundress that hugged my curves and showed just enough skin to feel dangerous. When I walked out onto the terrace, the table was already set with candles, wine, and plates of fresh seafood. The sun was sinking into the ocean, painting everything in deep gold and orange.

Mia was already halfway through her first glass of wine. “There you are! Dad, doesn’t Liana look amazing? She’s all grown up now.”

John looked up from pouring himself a drink. His eyes traveled over me slowly, then flicked away. “She does,” he said carefully. “Sit down, both of you.”

I took the chair right next to him. Mia sat across from us, chattering away about all the things she wanted to do this week—boat trips, beach parties, maybe sneaking into some exclusive club down the coast.

“So, Mr.Voss,” I said, turning toward him as I reached for the bottle of chilled white wine. My arm brushed against his deliberately, my shoulder pressing lightly into his. “You really don’t work at all this week? I can’t imagine you sitting still that long.”

He turned his head, our faces closer than they should have been. “I’m trying something new. Disconnecting. Though with you two around, I doubt I’ll get much peace.”

Mia snorted. “Please. You love it. Admit it, Dad. Having us here makes the place less boring.”

John chuckled, a deep sound that sent heat straight through me. “It definitely makes it louder.”

I smiled and leaned in a little more as I poured my wine, letting my thigh rest against his under the table. “Maybe you need loud. All that quiet power stuff must get exhausting.”

His jaw tightened. For a moment I thought he might pull away, but he didn’t. Instead he looked straight at me, voice quiet enough that Mia couldn’t hear over the sound of the waves. “Careful, Liana.”

The warning in his tone only made me bolder. When Mia got up to take a call from one of her other friends, I seized the moment. I reached across him for the basket of bread, pressing my body fully against his side. My breasts brushed his arm. I turned my head so my lips were close to his ear.

“You’ve always looked at me like I’m still a little girl,” I whispered. “I’m not anymore,  Mr. Voss Not even close.”

Heat flared in his eyes, dark and dangerous. His hand caught my wrist under the table, grip firm. “You have no idea what you’re playing with.”

“Then show me,” I breathed.

Before he could answer, Mia’s voice rang out as she came back to the table. “Sorry! That was Jake. He’s definitely coming tomorrow. Liana, you’re going to love him. Tall, rich, and totally single.”

“Sounds perfect,” I said, pulling back with an innocent smile. My heart was racing so hard I was sure they could both hear it.

The rest of dinner passed in a blur of laughter and stories. Mia dominated most of the conversation, telling wild tales from our senior year, while John listened with that quiet intensity of his. Every time our eyes met, the air felt thicker. When his knee accidentally brushed mine under the table and stayed there, I thought I might combust.

Later, after we’d said goodnight and Mia had disappeared into her room with her phone glued to her ear, I lay in my huge bed staring at the ceiling. The villa was quiet except for the distant crash of waves. My skin still tingled from every place I’d touched him.

I couldn’t sleep. Not after that whisper. Not after the way he’d looked at me.

I got up and walked to the balcony door, sliding it open to let in the cool night air. That was when I heard it. Soft footsteps in the hallway outside my room. They stopped right in front of my door.

I held my breath, pulse thundering in my ears. Was it him? Had my words pushed him far enough to come here?

The handle didn’t turn. No knock. The footsteps lingered for what felt like forever, then continued slowly down the hall.

I stood there frozen, body burning with a mix of fear and excitement so sharp it hurt. Whatever line I had just crossed tonight, there was no going back. John Voss wasn’t just my best friend’s father anymore. He was the man I wanted more than anything, and something told me wanting him was going to come with a very high price.

I closed the balcony door and climbed back into bed, but sleep didn’t come easy. Every sound in the big house made me wonder if he was lying awake too, thinking about me the same way I couldn’t stop thinking about him.

This vacation had just begun, and already it felt like the start of something that could ruin us all.

The video on that phone proved one terrifying truth. We were no longer alone in this obsession. Someone wanted us dead. The next morning I barely slept. Every shadow in my apartment made me jump. I texted John that I needed to see him immediately. He told me to come to his private gym in the basement of his building where the new security team could watch everything. When I arrived he was already there hitting the heavy bag hard enough to make the chains rattle. Sweat glistened on his bare chest and shoulders.“John we need to talk about those files I saw in your office,” I said closing the door behind me. “The ones about your wife. Tell me the truth. Was Victor Kane really behind her death?”He stopped punching and turned to face me breathing heavily. “Liana you should not have gone through my things. That part of my life is dangerous. I do not want you anywhere near it.”“But I am already in it,” I shot back stepping closer. “That car

One wrong step in the city could get me killed, but I still could not stay away from him. The vacation ended too soon and we all returned to the city. Mia went straight to her friends while I waited until late at night. My heart pounded as I used the spare key she had once given me for emergencies. I slipped into John’s penthouse like a shadow, the lights of the skyline glittering through the massive floor to ceiling windows. John stood by the bar in a black shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He looked up when I closed the door and his face tightened. “Liana you should not be here,” he said quietly. “It is too risky after everything that has happened.” I walked straight to him refusing to back down. “I needed to see you Daddy. The whole ride back I kept thinking about you inside me on that yacht. I could not wait.” He let out a rough b

Running from danger only made me want him more. After Lena’s slip up I knew we could not sit still any longer. John picked me up early the next morning and we drove to a quiet coffee shop on the edge of the city to start digging into the stalker ourselves.“We cannot trust anyone right now,” John said as we sat in a back booth. “Not even my own team. I pulled some old contacts and found out the black car from the other night is registered to a shell company linked to Kane.”I leaned closer across the table. “So what is our next move Daddy? We cannot just wait for him to come after us again.”John looked around then lowered his voice. “We follow the money. I have an old warehouse address where some of Kane’s people have been spotted. We go check it out but we stay careful. You stay in the car until I say it is clear.”“No way,” I replied firmly. “We are in this together. I am not sitting on the sidelines while you risk everything

Chapter 4: Playing with FireThat hidden photo should have made me run. Instead, it made me want him even more. The next evening the three of us headed to an exclusive beach party hosted by one of John’s business associates. The place was packed with rich locals, pulsing music, and fire dancers lighting up the sand. I wore a tiny black dress that hugged every curve and barely covered my ass. I knew John would hate it. That was the point.Mia grabbed my hand as soon as we arrived. “This is going to be insane! Let’s get drinks.”We danced for a while, laughing and moving to the music. Then a tall, handsome local guy named Diego came over. He had a bright smile, nice arms, and zero shame.“You must be the most beautiful girl here tonight,” he said, leaning in close. “I’m Diego. Dance with me?”I felt John’s eyes on us from across the fire pit before I even answered. “Sure, why not,” I replied with a flirty smile.Diego pulled me toward the dance floor. His hands settled on my hips as we

Fear had officially lost the battle. Desire was winning, and it was winning dirty. The morning after the storm I could still feel the ghost of John’s fingers between my legs. My body ached for more. I spent the whole time on the yacht waiting for the perfect moment, watching Mia sunbathe on the upper deck with her headphones blasting and a drink in her hand. She was completely checked out. This was my chance.I slipped down into the luxurious master cabin and closed the door behind me. John was standing there in just swim trunks, looking at some navigation screens. The second he saw me, his face changed.“Liana, last night was a mistake,” he said, voice low and strained. “We cannot do this again. Ever.”I walked straight up to him, heart hammering. “You really believe that, Daddy? After the way you had your fingers buried in my pussy last night? You were so close to fucking me right there in the pool house.”His eyes darkened instantly. “Keep your voice down. Mia is right upstairs. Th

One whispered challenge can turn a quiet vacation into a dangerous game you can’t walk away from. The next morning I woke up with my skin still tingling from the memory of his stare. I knew I had to push harder. I picked the tiniest white bikini I brought, the one that barely held my chest in place and rode high on my hips. When I looked in the mirror I felt powerful. Dangerous. Ready.Mia was already by the pool when I got downstairs, sipping orange juice in her sunglasses. “Damn, Liana. You trying to break necks today?”I laughed and dropped my towel on the chair next to hers. “Just trying to get a good tan. Where’s your dad?”“Probably in his office pretending to work even though he promised he wouldn’t. Why?”“No reason,” I said innocently. “Just wondering if he’s joining us.”I positioned my lounge chair so I had a perfect view of the terrace. Sure enough, John came out a few minutes later in swim trunks, looking ridiculously good. I waited until Mia went inside to grab more drin
