LOGINDante's POV
"You called," I hissed, pouring myself a glass from the bottle of vodka on the desk. In my line of business, you can never have too much to drink, not when life burns more. "There was an attack on one of our shipments" Ivan spoke, going straight to the point, as always. I sighed as I pulled out the seat in front of his desk, making myself comfortable on it. " Which one exactly?" "The one meant for the Russians" My grip tightened around the glass "That's Maxim Petrov's shipment, he is going to go crazy" I stated, my mind going back to the last time someone had messed with one of the Petrovs' shipments. Maxim Petrov had sent his men to burn all the warehouses to the ground with their men inside and still wanted to do more. It almost caused a fight between all the families but luckily our previous Don was able to step in on time and make a negotiation for the peace and safety of all five families. "This was done intentionally, someone is trying to cause a ruckus between us and the Bratva and we need to clear things up before the Bratvas get the wrong message," Ivan said, searching through the stack of papers on his desk. "And who would do something as stupid as this?" His cold gaze met mine, "I am sure you already have the answer to your question" "Sullivan is fighting hard, whatever he is trying to hide must be really bad" I voiced out. "Which is why we have to find out exactly what it is and fast" Ivan's tone already told me he had something in mind and I can't shake off this feeling that I won't like what it is. "You have a plan, what is it?" I asked, going against my mind, screaming at me not to. He is going to say it anyway. "You are not going to like it one bit" he warned, making me roll my eyes. "I know that already but it won't stop you from saying what you have to say" I stated. "It is the best option, it isn't permanent. Just until we can get all this sorted out" he was being vague and that only meant it was something even worse than I had imagined. He always goes straight to the point no matter how bad. "Don" My voice was stern and strong, my little way of telling him I was done with the games. The earlier he gets it out the better for us all, my reaction would be my reaction no matter how delayed. "You would have to marry her Dante" He sighed, his eyes fixed on me, watching for my reaction...One I wasn't even sure I was to give. Marriage? Me? Hell no. "We both know that's impossible, Ivan" I spat out. His jaw ticked at my tone and use of his name but he knows better than to act on it. We were friends, brothers before he became Don and we are going to discuss as brothers now. "This is the best option. The one language every mafia family understands is that no one touches the wife of a Made Man, especially not the wife of any of the top ranks. You are my right-hand man and the best assassin the Italian mafia has, making her your wife is the ultimate protection" he tried to reason even though he knew deep down it wasn't going to work, we both knew why. "And the worst thing you could have come up with too" I shot. He is crossing lines might as well do so too. "Dante, this is very important, you have to put emotions and sentiments aside" His words hit me more than I expected. How can he sound like he doesn't know everything? "They say power does a lot to people, but I didn't expect you to be one of them too" I spat anger and irrationality flooding my veins as I pushed myself up from where I sat. I never feel pain but the piercing all over was a feeling words couldn't explain...it's like someone just hit me somewhere I never knew existed. "This conversation is over, if you want to protect her so freaking much. You might as well go ahead and marry her" The anger and malice in my voice could be felt as I turned my back to him and walked out banging the door loudly behind me. Fucking Ivan Falcone. **** "No" "Hell no" "This would be too obvious" Whispers came from the kitchen, a petite shadow lurking behind the fridge, the light from inside the only source of illumination in the whole kitchen. It is freaking 2am, who the hell is still lurking around in the kitchen? Someone couldn't have gotten last orbit security right? On instinct, I pulled my rifle from my belt, holding it firmly in my hand as I slowly made my way there, listening for any more words but it seemed whoever it was had either noticed me or become smart and I doubt the latter. I raised my gun ready to shoot whoever the invader was, when a very familiar blonde popped out from behind the fridge, a scream escaping her lungs as she sighted me. Of course, it's her. "Shit" I cursed out as her eyes rolled to the back of her head just as she dropped unconscious to the ground, all her stolen food falling to the ground too. Why the fuck is she even stealing food? Didn't Deborah take food to her as I instructed?Audrey's POV I could still feel his hot breath on my face meaning he was still so close so why isn't he kissing me yet?I slowly peeled my eyes open, my cheeks tinting pink in pure mortification as I took in the expression that was now on his face—pure mockery and disgust. He chuckled, a dark and unamused one, " Women...always the same. You all will never miss an opportunity to get laid" he snorted, his hands dropping from my face as I burnt him.Did he just insinuate what I think he is insinuating? How could he even think like that? How stupid can I even be, what was I expecting? I couldn't help it as tears welled up in my eyes. I am a virgin, promised myself to remain a virgin till my wedding night and here I was fully ready to let a man I didn't even know touch me all because of hormones...I thought I had trained myself better than this."You'd better eat something, you would need all your energy for what's going to go down tonight" he dismissed taking a step away from my mortifi
Audrey's POV Blank.Empty.Shattered.Guilt.Those were the only things I could feel.It has been three hours since I saw that picture and I can't unsee it. The tears kept falling while I just sat staring at the wall in front of me, the days, weeks, months, and years Mrs.Rachel and I had spent together replayed over and over again in my mind. She was like a missing piece I didn't even know I needed. I always spent weekends and holidays with her and her husband whenever I couldn't make it back home. Mum and Dad loved her so dearly too, they would always ask to speak to her whenever they called...she always told me I made her forget that she didn't get to have a child of her own.We would have little picnics and barbecue together and then I would help her pack up and put her husband to bed before going back to my form. She made me forget how unbearable Katelyn made the dorm feel ...and now she's gone just like that...her husband will not take this news lightly. I need to get to him one
Audrey's POV "Let's go to my office" Ivan declared, pushing himself up from where he sat but Dante’s next words stopped him."You want to marry her into the family right? There is no need to go to your office, we can talk here. She is going to be part of us soon anyway" Dante’s eyes were fixed on me once again as if waiting for a reaction from me, his words calm yet threatening. How can a man be so quiet yet scary? The other two men also turned to look at me, their expressions quite different from Dante’s, the man who just walked in had the most horrific look on his face and that was all I needed to know that whatever it was he wanted to say I was going to hate it."This isn't the time to act up" Ivan piped up turning to look at Dante whose eyes remained on me. "I am not acting up, Leonid can talk, I am sure Audrey here doesn't mind right?" He definitely doesn't want an answer.Leonid, it suits him perfectly."Audrey please excuse us" Ivan totally ignored Dante, his voice commanding
Audrey's POV I stood in front of the little mirror in the bathroom with mixed feelings in my heart.I was dressed in the same gown I had on when I was brought here, my bouncy and shiny blonde hair looking dry and frizzy. Although there were no eye bags under my eyes I felt utterly exhausted even having just woken up from my little fighting session. I feel miserable and my appearance is giving that off properly. The thought of being married to a stuck- creepy guy has kept me uneasy all afternoon, calling it a fake marriage doesn't even make me feel any better."Miss Audrey" A voice called out snapping me back to the life that has become my reality."I will be down soon" I yelled hoping whoever it was could hear from outside the door."Don Ivan says they can't start till you are down" If J wasn't uncomfortable with eating with them before, I sure am now.I didn't bother giving her a response and she didn't say anything else either. I sighed deeply to myself preparing myself for whatev
Dante’s POV "Poisoned food, really?" I threw my hands in the air in anger and frustration at how gullible Ivan was being. The tension from our earlier conversation and fight still lingered between us making everything much more heated. "I believe her," he said flatly. He walked past me taking a seat at his desk."You believe a naive 20-year-old college girl who was just brought nine hours away from home? Of course, she would feel like she was poisoned, she was brought here against her will" I threw my hands up in exasperation. Ivan has been frustrating and annoying since I brought Audrey here. First, he wanted her safe at all costs to the point of sending me hours away, something he has never done before and now he is trusting her over Deborah who has lived with us for years. He is definitely not saying something."That girl is smarter than you think and I know for sure she wouldn't raise an alarm if there isn't any. She knows very well what that would mean for her" The certainty in
Audrey's POV I burst into laughter clutching my stomach as tears threatened to spill from my eyes."You are so funny" I continued laughing, totally ignoring the large scowl on his face at my reaction. I guess Mafia men don't like their jokes being laughed at...but they are jokes for a reason, aren't they? "I am just a twenty-year-old girl waiting to finish college, get her business degree, and get a job and you are asking me about marriage. Really?" I managed to say."The perfect age," He said, his voice dead serious. That's all been picked? These Mafia men have a big problem, I am sure of that. "You are serious aren't you?" I mummured blinking blankly at him."I am glad you have realised that" "You want me to get married to you?" I asked before I could stop myself. I have always read about such types of marriages but never in a million years, did I think I would find myself His lips curled in a smirk causing my heart to drop...it has to be him right? At least he is nice compar
