[ Dinner ]

Chapter 4

Selene p.o.v 

[Dinner]

“I can't mom, I don't want to attend” I mumbled slowly. “No way Selene, I want to see you in the next five minutes or I'm blocking your credit card!” she screamed, ending the call. “Oh god classic Italian mom,” I muttered. 

I felt so broken and I couldn't go back there. I wiped my teary eyes and applied ice packs on them. They were really red and I felt sick. I spent the next thirty-minutes fixing myself. Then I stepped into the house and it was already dark by then. I met my mom and dad with my step uncle and Xavier already in the dining room.

I tried walking past them while greeting them but my mom wasn't having it. As soon as she saw me she insisted I stay.

“But I want to go freshen up, I promise I'll be back” I begged.

“No, come have dinner with us. Your uncle was asking about you” she replied sweetly but I knew she would soon snap. I sat down quietly with a faint smile on my face. I took the seat that was next to Xavier, opposite my step-uncle, Lucan. 

“How was your day honey?, you look tired” My step dad asked. 

“It was great dad, just school stress” I explained. 

“School stress huh?, more like boy stress” Xavier scoffed. I shot him a glare and he rolled his eyes. “Asshole,” I muttered under my breath. “Mom!” Xavier called loudly.

“Could you two stop being childish for once” my mom asked, glaring at us. 

“She started it first” Xavier mumbled and I couldn't help but hissed. I continued my food slowly. 

“So uncle are you staying here?” Xavier asked beaming. 

“Yeah, I have some work here,” he answered. I couldn't help but take a look at him. He had grown much older and handsome over the years. He looked sharp in those glasses and tailored suit and his green eyes diverted to mine. I smiled small then looked away. During the dinner they kept talking about work and business. And I felt his gaze under me and anytime I looked up I would see him staring. He had also been cold towards me but he still showed kindness when he wanted to. In fact we were very close and he'd follow me anywhere I wanted. I would tell everyone that he was my best friend. Until one time I turned fifteen he went for a business trip and I saw less of him until he disappeared. He came back again when I was twenty and one afternoon I saw him masturbating and then he yelled at me and started being cold to me. I cried and I felt hurt but I soon got over it. 

“How is school going?” 

“Don't you miss your uncle, you have been distant ?” Lucan asked to bring me back  from my train of thoughts, he was smiling at me. 

“She has been like that because of her boyfriend” Xavier said grinning. But my heart dropped when I heard his name, the room seemed to fall silent for me. Today's event  washed over me and I seem to choke on my food. I grabbed the water quickly, gulping everything down. 

“Honey you should eat properly, kids these days seem to forget about their dads when they start dating” my dad called out playfully. 

“I see,” Lucan whispered, his fist clenched and his face holding no expression again. “I think you should focus on your studies now Selene.”

“Boys are just a distraction” he said sternly, more like a command than an advice. Everyone turned to him from his sudden outburst and so did I. I squinted my eye lids shut. I exhaled sharply, face red. My hand tightened around my spoon. “What is wrong with him?”

“Why is he lecturing me about my life”

I thought to myself. My throat burned with spite, I felt so hurt and angry at the same time. “Let her be, she's still a kid” my mom chipped in.

“No she's not,” he muttered lowly. I bit my lip hard then stood up with a thud. Everyone turned to me. “Honey you haven't eaten much” my mom whispered but I ignored her. I walked away, each step carrying the weight of everything that had happened. I could still hear my mom and dad calling me but I slammed the door. 

I collapsed on my bed tiredly releasing all the emotions I have held. All the things jace said to me, the break up and now my jerk uncle. “Fuck him” I scoffed, sobbing softly. “Does he know what I'm going through” I hissed gritting my teeth. I grabbed my phone but there was no text or call from jace. I tried calling him but he didn't respond, I texted numerous times but he still left me on seen. I fling my phone on the floor with frustration, I felt like destroying everything in the room but I held myself back. I strip my clothes off then sat on the shower. My whole body cool down as the cold water hit me. I felt cold but I didn't care now. I love the feeling of it. I stayed in the shower for about one hour before I came out. By that time my whole body was shivering but I ignore it. I dried myself up then I snuggled up in my blanket. I stayed like that for hours but I couldn't sleep I kept thinking about everything that happened. 

Everywhere seemed to quiet down and I was just left with my thoughts. I felt like going down because I was hungry but I felt weak. I was running on temperature. My body felt hot and then I realized I could be sick.
